I want to remind you that if you’re out and about this weekend, you’ll want to stop by your local Starbucks where, in honor of the new Starbucks Hazelnut Macchiato, participating Starbucks locations across the country are offering up FREE tall Hazelnut or Caramel Macchiato beverages! Yum!

To get in on this oh so delicious freebie, head to your nearest Starbucks location (or call ahead before wasting gas and time to verify) and ask the barista about this promo to possibly receive a coupon offer (like the one pictured above) valid for a FREE Hazelnut or Caramel Macchiato. Note that some Starbucks locations may actually require you to make a purchase in order to snag this freebie. However, my hubby headed to our local Starbucks in Boise, Idaho and just asked the Barista about this promo and she gave him the beverage for FREE – no purchase required! 🙂

If your local Starbucks does require you to make a purchase, you could snag this $1 reusable cup and then receive your FREE Macchiato! Check out the details about this cup below:

In efforts to reduce cup waste and encourage more people to bring in their own reusable cups, you may be excited to know that Starbucks has introduced the reusable (and recyclable) Starbucks cup for hot beverages at Starbucks stores nationwide. Even sweeter, this cup is priced at only $1 AND you’ll receive a 10 cent discount each time you use it in stores… so it pays for itself in just ten uses! What a great & easy way to reduce waste – and you can’t beat the price! :)

I had to ask for it yesterday but got it!

  2. lisa

Thanks for your post yesterday. My daughter and I went in and asked for the coupon. One barista said they didn’t have any more. Long story short, she found them. We both got a drink, which were soo good. So glad that you encouraged us to get what is being advertised but not necessarily offered. 😛

Where I am in Salem, Oregon, they won’t give the cards out unless you buy a lb. of coffee.. and no free drink either 🙁

    • Jennifer

I’m in Portland and had the same situation. They actually had the coupons stuck to specific 1lb. bags. I asked about them and said I thought they were supposed to be just given out. The manager was there and ended up giving me one. I thanked her several times:) Sometimes just asking nicely works out!

  4. Sherri

Is it a one time use or can you use it multiple times?

We went to our local Starbucks yesterday morning before a funeral, bought four separate drinks and then asked about our coupons and they said that they have chosen not to start that promotion until this upcoming Monday. We didn’t really have time for it to be a big deal, but we made sure to call corporate after everything was over. Not only did they say that all free standing Starbucks (i.e. not in a grocery store) were not only required to participate in this promotion, but they are suppose to run it from the dates listed on the free cards. They said they were contacting the district manager and the manager of the store and to keep our receipts so that in a few days we could go back and get our free coupons.

I went and had to pay for my drink no freebie ;(

  7. Kalsie

I had a similar problem. I went into Starbucks and asked for a coupon and the barista treated me like it was a crime that I ask for coupons. He even yelled at me for telling the lady behind me in line about the promotion when she asked me. I wrote an email to corporate and was told they would contact the store manager and would be sending me coupons. Overall, a good response but still frustrated at the treatment I received.

    • es

That’s for sure. Then why have a promotion if the stores don’t want to follow it…..grrr

      • CO Mama

Same happened here in CO, no free drink & treated poorly for even asking about coupon/promo. Total disappointment with the roll-out of this promo. Boo Starbucks!

  8. michellini

I went to a few here in southern California and both times asked about free promo they said yes no coupon just put code in …so you have to ask but they didn’t care

  9. dannypuppet

here in southeastern wisconsin, most will not give the coupons out unless asked. but one that is close to me said that they didn’t have any and that i should make a print out of the promo and bring it in with me everytime. so, at least, from what i can see here, is that you can do this promo over and over because of the long dates.

  10. Suzanne

Why would you think you could get this deal without a coupon? It’s not posted on the Starbucks website. The picture you show says “exchange this coupon.” Where were the coupons distributed?

  11. Pshhh

I walked in with a friend, got in line, then asked the cashier about the promo. She told me that I needed a coupon. So I asked where I could get a coupon. She then said OK, but she could only give one( What??). I asked one for my friend too, of course. I said thanks, but why does it have to be like pulling teeth? The staff at that store are usually friendly and upbeat, but this one…never saw her before. It’s a promo! Know what…I could taste the milk, the hazelnut flavoring…but where’s the coffee? I couldn’t taste that at all, in my opinion. We roast our own coffee beans and grind them ourselves. There’s nothing like making it yourself and having a fresh cup of coffee that had only been roasted 12 hours ago . It’s very easy to do. I think if people would just take the time to learn to roast their own coffee beans (much cheaper! we’re about saving money right?), it will put coffeehouse chains out of business.

    • Rose

That’s sounds wonderful, Pshhh! Let’s do coffee!!!

  12. Erin

I just went to the Starbucks in Target in Vestal NY with my husband and the cashier was super friendly. He said that they were out of the coupons but he still let me husband each get one of these for free 🙂

  13. stacey

Even after making a purchase I too had to ask for it. Don’t understand why they don’t just hand it to you with your receipt??

  14. Julie

Went to one in Sunnyvale and they told me I had to buy 1 AND if I bought a hazlenut, the coupon I would get for a free one next time would be caramel. seriously!?!

  15. rosana

i had no issues went to target shopping center next door starbucks when and ask for one and gave me one so delicious, then later the next day went to safeway inside there is a starbucks ask for one and no problem.

  16. Jesse

My Starbucks in Target (Northern VA) said I needed a coupon too. I politely asked where to get one, and she gave it to me anyway. :-). SUPER yummy!

  17. Bea

Thanks for posting this a few days ago! At our usual Starbucks the barista said we had to purchase a drink, which was fine with us, but she first had to go ask the manager about it (another barista there just slipped us the coupon – yeah!). At our Target across the street, the guy was super friendly and not only gave my hubby the free drink on the spot, he also slipped him a coupon and told him to come back and try the caramel too (how nice is that?). It seems to really depend on the baristas for this deal.

  18. Regina Prokop Ranney

Thanks for adding to our weekend, Collin! My husband and I each enjoyed a hazelnut.

  19. CoffeeLover

I asked for a coupon and used it to buy a drink for my husband. I then asked the barista if my kids (ages 3 & 5 sitting nearby) were “people”. He looked confused but said “Yes, of course they are.” I then asked, “And my baby here? Is she a person?” He agreed that she was, too. So I then asked for 3 more coupons, to which he replied “I’m sorry, only one per… person. Oooooh! You’re sneaky!” *cue cheeky grin* He laughed, and gave me 3 more coupons for my kids and I told him he’d see me again, because in my house, we share!

  20. Bianca

This promotion is definitely crazy (good but a little crazy) only because I don’t understand where we’re supposed to get the coupons! haha

I can’t complain too much though. I went to a local Starbucks store (SoCal) today and asked if they were participating. He said “We are.. do you have a coupon?” and I said, “No, I don’t know where or how to get one” and he laughed and said it was okay and gave me a free tall hazelnut macchiato. I was happy overall and the drink is good but I’m still confused – when or how were these supposed to be given out?! 🙂

  21. Mary

Went in Sacramento to get one at the same locations that a friend had gotten hers free at (no coupon, just a smile and they entered the code they’d memorized by now!) and they looked at me like I was crazy. Weekend crew or something? In any case, they said they had no coupons and hadn’t heard of such a promotion (this was Landis and Fair Oaks, as well as the Manzanita/Fair Oaks Bel Air ones.)

  22. Danielle

Went to the same Starbucks in two days. Both times they mentioned a coupon but the first day, the cashier was nice enough to say that she had one here and scanned it. Since my mom was ordering a caramel macciatio before I mentioned the offer, she gave her drink and my drink free! The next day, the different cashier just said that I had to have the coupon so we paid for our coffee like normal. I was really grateful to the first cashier though. Gave her a tip cuz I felt guilty just getting two free drinks.

  23. Grtpumk

I tried yesterday at the Starbucks in Von’s and the young girls said I needed to bring a printout of the coupon. I was too tired to argue, even though I knew better. WTH? Corporate needs to give these employees the tools to succeed, not fail.

    • Nancy

so are you just printing it? do they accept it? the print version.

    • ruth (@mrssoto)

to make it short, I was just in my local Starbucks and they said they got a email today to no longer copies, i said well mines not a copy i printed from like a coupon showed her email and all and she said nope cant accept that. it has to be an actual coupon we handed out. the way she talked to me though made me very embarrassed like i had done something wrong.. i just emailed corporate lets see what they have to say.

  24. katie

no luck at my starbucks. they had 100 coupons that they had already given out.

  25. jessie b

I went there today and they said i needed the coupon or the code so i didnt get one

  26. Bridget

I tried today, they said I needed a voucher. Not very helpful.

  27. casey

was told i needed a voucher, as well.

  28. Nicole

Today I went to the Santa Clara Valley Fair and at about 3:30, i asked for it but the lady that was taking my order asked questions like where did you get it and that she needed to seen email that i got it from, and she was being very rude, so i could not get it.

  29. jc

Went to my Starbucks today. Said i needed a coupon code. Thanks to above post with link (code 350) I’ll be all set next time.

  30. SKlem211

Are you people really this gullible? The “coupon” above is simply a photograph of the actual coupon and it even says in the fine print “not valid if reproduced” which is exactly what you all are doing – so this is not valid unless you were given a coupon by an employee at Starbucks. Each store had 100 coupons to distribute – approximately 15 per day to random customers. It’s not shame on Starbucks for not rolling out this “promotion” properly, it’s shame on you and this website for spreading false information and creating your own “promotion” out of thin air.

    • Destinee

I would like to know how you blame the website for spreading false information? First off Collin only put up the information she had about the promo. She didn’t “create her own promo out of thin air” it is a valid promo that Starbucks is doing. And she never advocated for printing anything.

      • mary

EXACTLY!!! sometimes it’s your lucky Day & sometimes it’s not

    • K

And the many people that are getting coupons for each child they bring with them! Come on, lets not take advantage!

  31. Cara

I don’t care how many coupons the person in front of me gets as long as I can get my free one too.
Is starbucks taking advantage when charging upwards of $5 for a drink?
I will feel great if they give me a couple of these coupons.
They could be promoting this better.
I have DIYed my latte with waaaayyyyy better results.

  32. mary

I asked and was told they just give them out randomly when they feel like it~ guess she didn’t feel like giving me one. Also I didn’t inquire until AFTER I had purchased a drink.

  33. Vero

You actually have to buy something then ur given one for your next trip and we are only allowed to give a certain amount a day and we run out bcuz there is limited amount it’s to make that continuous customer come back over and over but if you had a gold card begore promotion started you can get a free one as much you want until end of promotion… Just be a true customer and you get alot of free stuff
