A Sold House and A Move…

Hip2Save may earn a small commission via affiliate links in this post. Read our full disclosure policy here.

So… I have been keeping a secret! For the past month or so, my family has been preparing to sell our home so that we can move a few streets over to a home that has more space. As you can imagine, it has been quite chaotic in my household as many hours have been spent de-cluttering, sorting, donating, cleaning, and doing whatever necessary to get our house in tip-top condition to go on the market.

So my high today… we sold our home in only 5 days! We are so happy and relieved to be done with the oh-so-stressful selling process. I was becoming a maniac freaking out about shoes being worn in the house, crumbs being dropped on the floor, backpacks strewn about etc. So I am very excited to get back to the more relaxed version of myself.

My low today – can you guess?! Yep, now we have to start preparing to actually move. Yuck! So the next few weeks will be filled with packing boxes, hauling them over to the new house, and unpacking boxes all with 3 kiddos in tow. Wish me luck!

[h2s_box]Every Wednesday, I share my high(s) and low(s) for the past week and I encourage you to do the same in the comment section below. My high(s) will simply be the best or most exciting thing that happened to me over the last week or so and my low(s) will be something not so great that took place. [/h2s_box]

My high: I got a set of bangle bracelets, two toddler girls outfits, red high heels, flip flops, animal cookies AND a half months worth of zyrtec from target today for 5 dollars!! Thank you so much for the tip about the target coupons for apparel and jewelry!
my low: Taking my lab puppy to be spayed, poor baby!

    • Nica

how did you do it? Which coupons did you use?

  2. Mary

I remember moving when my son was 5 and…having a scheduled vacation on the Disney Cruise all in one month!! One week apart.

Never appreciated a vacation more! We were all set by the time we left for vacation. We had a lot of stuff! You can do it!!! Make yourself do it!!!

My advice…unpack quickly. Nothing is more debilitating that a few boxes left unpacked!

Don’t worry! It will all get accomplished!
Remember…Worry is the darkroom where negatives are developed~not my quote. ๐Ÿ˜‰

hmm Nothing I really consider a “high” I just feel lucky to have an amazing husband and some pretty awesome girls( 3 of them to be exact) My low is school with a toddler and a new baby I have been struggling with school and I am really down about that, people keep telling me that they are amazed on how I do it all but that just makes me feel worse since I feel like I am not handling it well ๐Ÿ™

    • Chrissy

I totally agree with you. I’m in the same boat and always feel worse when people say that cause I think I could do better but I’m so burnt out already

    • J

Hi Amanda. I felt the same way when I was in school a few months ago (with only one child though..who is now 3 years old). I started getting depressed because I was struggling in a class. And this class happened to be my last class to complete my Master’s degree program. At this point I had been in school for almost 2 and a half years; working full time with a young child. I decided to drop the class and take some needed time off. When I started the class again I did so much better. Maybe you can take some time off to energize and get back into the swing of things. Good luck to you!

    • Ashley

Sorry to hear that ๐Ÿ™ keep your head up…all you can try is YOUR best! I have a feeling your life will be a lot smoother when you finish your education. Good luck! I’m rooting for you! <3

      • Amanda M

Thank you so much all for your kinds words!

    • Susie

I am in school also. I am the mother of 3 (14, 11, 9). Do not give up on school and do not give up on your self. Education is hard work, but it will be worth it in the end. You are an amazing person to take this task on and enjoy your babies!

    • Kim B.

I know your pain. Stay at home mom here of two girls ages 2 and 5. I go to school online usually more than full time. I know that it is difficult and there has been no “me time” for the past two years, but I also know that if I stop I may not get started again! I just try to remember that the kids come first. I do my reading while they play. I take my tests and quizzes during nap time or if my husband can watch the kids. The biggest thing is to not stress about every little grade. Just do your best with the time that you have and things will fall into place. Good luck to you!

  8. Lisa George

Congrats on the sell & new house…you are a strong organized woman & I know you can do this! You have inspired my life in so many ways.

  9. Shannon

Does this mean we get another wonderful home tour???? Congratulations to your family!

  10. Mary

My low was that I saw my ex-boyfriend driving by with a woman in the passenger seat of of his SUV. I was super sad about it, mainly because I am getting old and my chances of finding someone diminish greatly by the hour it seems. He found a replacement very quickly. But, my high? Well, my mom sent me a package which arrived today. It contained a Coach bag that I’ve wanted for a long time. I am tremendously lucky to have a mom who is so thoughtful, kind, funny, smart and just all around awesome. I may be single but I do have my momma as my best friend. And I have a cute dog too. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Mary

Thank GOD for great MOMS! Huh?! I always call her when I have a down moment. (Flu, cold…and I am a mom…just nice to have her listen. Huh!) Tell her that! I am 48!
      Hope you perk up!
I’ll take a Coach bag an day of the week!! ; 0)

    • Kamaya

He will find u….trust & believe.

  11. amanda

Yay! Congrats on the quick sell! I hope that you love your new place and the move goes smoothly!

  12. Ashley

Wow- you moved into that house about a year ago, right? It takes me like 2 years to unpack every time I’ve moved, lol! Congrats on the fast sell and I cannot WAIT to see how you decorate this new home!!!

  13. Rebe

Collin, forget the whole thing of hipsters sharing highs and lows, we just love to hear from you and your family! Congratulations and THANK YOU for all you do! ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. Silvia

Congrats!!! It will be well worth it once your all moved in to the new place!

  15. Nina

  16. jiya

Congratulations for the new home & good luck for the move.

  17. Ga

    Congrats Collin & family!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  18. Rachel

Congrats! My high today: knowing that my ten month old daughter’s east tube surgery yesterday was successful and left her unscathed. My low today: looking ahead to the next month, my husband and I wont have a free weekend til the end of the month. ๐Ÿ™

  19. Rachel

    Sorry I meant ear

  20. brdavis55

  21. Kamaya

Congrats on the quick sale and a new home! My high is it was 72 degrees today! No low.

  22. Elizabeth

I’m jealous Collin your house is so cute, I am actually excited to see what pictures you post of the new larger home and all the good things to come for your family. I wish I could be more like you in getting rid of stuff. …. I am thankful that I was able to travel this past weekend and see my mom and sister. We were able to see a butterfly exhibit and feed the ducks with my 3 children. I am also thankful my husband with a bunch of good friends were able to fix our computer and I can now print Target coupons again. On a not so great note my car got egged while it was parked in front of my mom’s house.

    • cindy

I was very impressed with your downsizing it made me want to do the same but I could not give up the space. I see you did a for sale by owner wow that is now my goal when I sell. What a way to save some money. Very nice warm day(about time) was my high and low well baby sitting a puppy, Mom in the hospital, kids forgetting the location of the ferret and our two dogs jumped into the lake made things a little crazy.

  23. Sue

So happy for you and your family!
    Enjoy your new home, Collin!

  24. Sheila

My high for the day-another day of cleaning and packing in preparation for getting married and moving to another state! (but only moving an hour away from where I live now) My low- there weren’t any!

  25. Michelle

Dearest Collin, 5 days? Really? Is there anything you can’t do? I think not. On behalf of all Hipsters, I beg you, please don’t become a Realtor. We need you to keep your day/night job. ๐Ÿ™‚ Much love and prayers to you in your new home. Congratulations!

  26. Nichole

That’s great! We went through the same thing 2 weeks ago and sold our house in one day! The low, having to wait out the 10 day inspection period and hoping the buyer won’t back out. We’re so desperate to move into an apartment we found and are holding, but there’s still that small, tiny chance, the buyer will wreak havoc!

I don’t have any lows today. Unless you count eating 10 mini donuts a low… haha.

  27. Ashlie

My high – after 7 years and many denied job applications, my brother is finally moving closer to home!

My (or his low haha) — He’s moving 800 miles, has to find a new home within 30 days, put his current home on the market, has a 2 year old, and a pregnant wife who can’t help much lol.

  28. Arlene

  29. Debbie

Congrats on selling your house! Enjoy your new home!

  30. Danette

Congrats to you! Twelve years ago we sold our house the first night we had it on the market so I FEEL your happiness.
My low today – my daughter is very sick with strep throat. My high today is my son’s school carnival is over and since I am treasurer and calculated the profits we made the school profits of around $2500! This is VERY exciting since his school has about 70% children at the poverty level! I am sharing this to let other parents know how extremely important it is to be involved in their child’s PTO at school. They need you!

  31. Jamie

My high: my oldest son turned 6 yesterday and we had a mommy/son date night at his very first NHL game- it was a playoff game AND we won. We had such a wonderful time.

My low: Found out I have to start paying more for daycare.

  32. C

Congratulations Collin. That is so awesome. We are planning a big move next year as well. We will be moving closer to my family. I am very much looking forward to the move. My daughter will be starting kindergarten and my son will be starting preschool so it will be a very exciting time for them. I know it will be lots of work but it will be worth it.

My high today…Having a lovely lunch today at California Pizza Kitchen with my kiddos. They both ate all their food and were so well behaved. It was so nice spending the time with them. The only thing that would have made it better was if their dad as there.

My low..I’ve been in and out all day with the kiddos and haven’t had the time to clean my house. Everything is a mess and I’m just too tired to get to it today.

  33. Tracy

    Congrats Collin.
    My High, my daughter.
My low, my boyfriend having a stroke and a major seizure that is keeping him from being able to speak, and having limited vocabulary when writing or texting. He is only 43, and an army vet. A very strong and proud man. And an inspiration to me because after all of this he is still positive.

    • Conswalla

May your boyfriend find strength and peace in his current life journey. Stay strong.

  34. Paula

Congrats Collin! I too am preparing to put our house on the market and am trying not to stress too much ๐Ÿ™‚
I sure hope I will be able to sell as fast! Fingers crossed!

  35. Jenni

    Did you sell By Owner??

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Yes, we did list For Sale By Owner.

      • Renee

Good for you!! That’s very hard to do where I live. At least you saved money on the realtor! Good luck with your move!!

  36. tiffany

My low…having a bladder infection and feeling like a slob all week. My high…having a wonderful husband to take care of me and my two tiny loves. He cooks, cleans, and everything!

  37. mel

    What a small world!
We are going through a similar situation. We are moving this Thurs- Sat. into a rental home that is 3 streets down from our current home (while we build our permanent home).
i just moved the first car load 2 hours ago to the neighborhood right next to ours!
Also, we have gone through the decluttering, boxing, etc. stage… and sold our house in less than two weeks!
Congratulations, and know that you have another out there with a very similar situation!
p.s.- I’m kinda jealous, because you only have to move once ๐Ÿ˜‰

  38. Renee

High for today was getting to see my sweet baby boy in 3D/4D ultrasound. Even at 30 weeks and 3 days we got some amazing photos of his sweet little face.
Low for the day: We found out he does have some fluid in his kidneys. ๐Ÿ™ The doctors are gone to keep an extra watch on them to make sure it don’t continue to fill with more fluids. Please say a little prayer for my little guy and hope everything works out for the best.

    • Megan

Renee, you & your baby are in my prayers. Hang in there. ๐Ÿ™‚

  39. Heather C.

How exciting! Congrats on selling your home so quickly, Collin! I know what a chore it is to move… so I hope moving goes smooth as possible for you, and you find the energy each day to get what needs to be done, done. ๐Ÿ™‚

My high for the day was watching the little girls I coach do an amazing job at softball practice today!

My low for the day was being up with my 19 month old into the wee hours of the morning (2 am). She fussed for about 2 hours straight… Don’t know if she had an ear ache, or if her gums were hurting from teething, or what the problem was. Here’s hoping tonight is a better night! ๐Ÿ™‚

  40. Shelley @

Congrats! So happy for you! I know moving is a pain…but think positive!! At least it’s a few streets over….nothing like moving between states! Plus your kids are old enough to put those younger legs and arms to work helping to carry boxes! ๐Ÿ™‚

My high is having my dishwasher fixed! Yay! The back-ordered part finally came in! Oh I hated hand washing dishes….3 meals a day…7 days a week. But I did learn what a timesaver it is to have one and how much I appreciate that! ๐Ÿ™‚

My low is constantly feeling behind – I have more to do and keep up with than there are hours in a day! Ugh! ๐Ÿ™

  41. JEM

My high for today, we found a replacement for the car my husband totaled a few weeks ago. We got $5500 from insurance and found a car for $5000 (after coming down from 8000) and have enough to get tags and pay taxes ๐Ÿ™‚

Low: having to pay $100 to have the radio unlocked. Grr gm lol

  42. trackers55Mary

Congrads, and very Happy for you and your family. Take one day at a time in the end it will all be worth it. ๐Ÿ™‚

  43. Kelly b

Congrats to you and your family! Best wishes in your move!
My high: after a field trip to a farm for preschool where they introduced a working dairy farm, my son said his favorite part was seeing a cow pee and poop…Boys…they make me smile!
My low: 2 inches of snow tonight, 4-7 inches tomorrow, 1-3 Friday. I’m not lovin MN weather right now!

  44. Brandy

Congratulations on selling so fast!! That is fantastic. My house is a wreck and falling apart i would love to sell….My high this week was seeing my best friend Jamie who moved 2 hours away last year she always knows just what to say. My Low this week, well…what isn’t my low…my family treats me like crap…my kids, my boyfriend and 1 of his kids all treat me like i’m invisible.

    • AMY

Sounds like you might need to break up with him. Easier said than done, I know, but there are plenty of guys out there who will treat you well. I left my husband 9 months ago and have been so much happier since, even with raising our four year old on my own now. A huge weight was lifted off my shoulders when I was finally on my own. I started seeing a counselor and have learned so much about myself. I am getting emotionally healthy so I don’t make the same mistakes with a man again. Good luck to you!

  45. June Gwinn

Congratulations on your sale. And lots of good luck to you in your new home.

  46. Gina

  47. Louise

Congratulations! I am so jealous. My Dad and sister live in Boise and we dream of the day we can move there too!

  48. Nicole

Congrats! I feel your pain. We sold our house in March in 2 days. We’re renting back until our house is done (14 days, but who’s counting?). We’ve been living half in and half out of boxes since March. We have four kids so this has been quite the adventure for them! ๐Ÿ™‚

  49. AMY

You’re amazing! How do you do it all?

  50. Rean

Congrats on the new house. It’s never fun to move, but it is fun to start over and having things all clean and in place when the whole moving process is done.

My high, I had some great walks and yoga workouts this past week with my daughter-in-law. My low the sun has done a number on me even with sun screen on. I now have sun poison all over, with nice red, itchy, bumps that are driving me crazy. Oh doctors I will go asap.
