Does anyone know if the simple touch is sufficient or if the glow light for $10 more is worthwhile? My store has both.
I have the regular one (without the glow light), and it has worked great for me! However, I don’t read very much in bed. If it’s only $10 more though, I’d go for the glow light version – even if you use it for the occasional read in low light, it’ll be nice to have.
I would DEFINITELY recommend the glow light. Only because I like to read in bed sometimes and I got the Nook Simple touch for $39.99 on Black Friday.. and I rarely use it because it’s too dark to read it in bed. 🙁 I should just purchase a light.. but even still.. 🙂
So, yes, buy the one with glow light if they have it. Otherwise you can’t read anywhere that doesn’t have good lighting.

After calling three stores finally found one at a store close to my husband’s workplace. They told me that it was reserved for me but when my hubby went to pick it up it was nowhere to be found in the store..booo 🙁
Atlanta: this happened to me as well. I’m quite bothered that the store manager assured me he’d hold, even took my name/number, only to sell before I walked in store an hour later.

Thanks for the suggestion, Casey – but I had already contacted them…SOLD OUT of course. I also called Sears, Office Depot, Office Max, Staples and every other store that offers price match. They’re gone, gone, gone around here.
That’s why it’s bad advice to call the store and ask them to price check it. The employees see the great price and keep it for themselves. Happens all the time.

I called around to like 50 stores in Arkansas and found ONE!! They are holding it for me. My son will pick it up tomorrow. WOO HOO!! This will be for my daughter who is graduating high school!!
Don’t be surprised if the store sells it before your son gets it. I had the RadioShack near me hold the last one for me, then I drove to go pick it up and the manager said that he had to sell it before I got there because people were complaining to corporate that he was holding it for me 🙁
Yep – what she said…try not to get your hopes up. Store manager sold the one he was holding for me less than 30 minutes of my arrival. He said 5 people came in demanding it – luck.

I’m in tears over this. I went to a store holding it for me and he was gone and locked the doors by the time I was there at 8:03, which I was at another store he knew that. Also went to target they wouldn’t match it. And best buy was going to and the manager came over and wasn’t having any part of it. Said it wasn’t in stock at the store he called so he couldn’t do it. I argued with him and just walked out after telling him I saw it with my own eyes!

Best buys price match policy states that the item they’re price matching must be in stock (at the store you’re price matching I.E. RadioShack). I think most stores are like that these days 🙂
Yes, I’ve had similar issues. Do NOT mention that it’s out of stock at another store when attempting to price match. 🙂
Even if you don’t mention it they will check the availability, it happened to me today , but then they found it available at a store withen 25 miles from theirs , and I got it 🙂

I was so excited to see this deal because this would have been the perfect gift for my sister whose birthday is on Friday. I checked online and it said my local store had it in stock. So I raced over there, and then I was told that the store had only received 3 of them and they had sold out as soon as the sale started. Bummer!
I found one at a nearby RS – the manager didn’t even have it on display, nor did she know about the sale until I called.
She offered me the extended warranty for $5 – I was going to turn it down, but she also had a $10 off coupon. So $25 for the Nook including the warranty, but only $15 after the coupon.
This is the second ebook reader I’ve nabbed via Hip2Save – first one was a Literati a little over two years ago (which still works) and now this Nook. (I’ll hang onto the Literati as a back-up reader for now.)

I just walked in the store, verified they had one, picked it up and asked an associate if they price matched Radio Shack. When they confirmed they did, he pulled up the online price and sold it to me for that price. Do NOT mention anything about it being sold out. I had a BB associate price match for me, but told me that she wasn’t supposed to if it’s sold out.

I contacted my local best buy, (st. Louis) and the gentleman looked up radio shack online and price matched for me. Gave me the option of ship to store or my door.

I had luck with Best Buy in Burlington last night but no luck today. I would go to the best buy site and see which store can ship it to their store and ask they ship it to you. That means they don’t have it in stock and they will ship to your house for free. I just wouldn’t try Burlington again.
I am considering purchasing as a teachers appreciation gift, but knowing that they’re teachers – they probably have nice kindles. Hmm. Mom is gone, not female family members. Trying to figure out a good person to gift something like this to since it’s such a good deal!
I think the teacher is a great idea. My mom was a teacher for many years and would have loved it if a parent had given her this. I would not assume that the teacher has a kindle. If she or he does maybe they could utilize it in the classroom. i know my mom was always scraping money together to get supplies for her students. What a nice thought to give as a teacher appreciation gift. For those of you around tampa area non left.
You can donate it to the classroom and the kids could use it at the school. You can also donate it to a hospital or nursing home for the patients/residents to use OR donate it to your church to take to members that are stuck in the hospital or going for chemo treatments or dialysis. Or you can save it and donate it to a Toys for Tots drive in a few months.
I was able to get 2 price matched at Best Buy because they are in-stock in our local store. Tonight I’m going to say a little prayer that the store does not cancel all the orders tomorrow and ships it to me for real. My niece is graduating from Kindergarden and she will be so excited to get one. This was cheaper than buying her 4 kids books to read over the summer! I’m so happy right now.

I called Bestbuy.com and they price matched! It did take a while though as he said they’ve been getting lots of calls about this particular item and are to call the local Radio Shack confirming they had in stock. But it was great customer service! and am having it shipped to me!

So glad I read this post I ran right out to Radio Shack and got the last one!
Bestbuy is stating that they contacted a radio shack “store” and that the “store” manager said it was a clearance item so they are not price matching. Although Online it is not in radioshacks “clearance” section and is not labeled as a clearance item. I have been a silver Rewards Member for over 5 years and they still would not do anything for me, it seems Bestbuy has found a way around the “bleeding”.
So true! I called Best Buy also because my niece want one now and even though its late in Wisconsin, all RadioShack around here are closed, they said that they speak to my local RadioShack and was informed that this is an clearance item. So they can’t pm for me.
I had a Radio Shack employee confirm that the 97 part of $19.97 means that it’s a clearance item, not a sale price.

I was able to buy 1 but don’t know how to use it. can we download the free kindle ebook that Collin listed and use for the nook? im so confused. charged, turned on and don’t know what to do.
I believe Nook and Kindle have different book format. One is ePub and one is something else (sorry cant think of what it called right now).

Kindle and Nooks are competitors. I don’t know if you can get a kindle reader on your nook… that defeats the purpose of B&N having their own reader. They have a free book selection on their site as well.

Most libraries offer books for the nook, mine requires that I have adobe digital editions on my laptop/pc and download the book there first then transfer to the nook via the USB cable. It’s not too bad once you get used to it and it is free.

So after you root it, what else can it do , other than use it as a reader ?
You can use it as a general purpose Android tablet and load other apps although some apps don’t work well with the eink screen. A popular option is to load alternate/competing readers (Sony, Kindle, Kobo, Aldiko, etc.). Another is to load something like ezPDF which does a better job of rendering PDF’s than the built in software. Some people also load browsers that are better than the stock one, Dropbox app, etc.
So, after I root it, do you suggest loading a Kindle reader? Where do I find that, on the Android marketplace? I am a little nervous about rooting it. Does anyone have a link of a trusted rooting method? Thank you in advance!

My price match at Best Buy just said that it shipped!!!! I am so excited that they did not cancel the price match orders this morning. This feels like the deal of the century for as much money as I saved on these two readers. This is one of those deals where I wish that I could have picked up 10 and donated them to a bunch of causes and given them as gifts to all my family/friends. I’m happy with the 2 that I did get – my boyfriend and niece are going to love it.

Sorry, I just came back here to say that mine should be delivered today and thank Collin again when I saw your comment. I called Best Buy at 10pm and our radio shack stores were closed but showed “in stock” when I selected the find a store button on the listing. They weren’t able to call and verify with the store that they had any left b/c radio shack was closed, but the Best Buy rep that I talked to said that radio shack’s online “in stock” status was good enough since the store was closed.
I called my Radio Shack last night and they confirmed that they had one left and that it was $19.97. I asked them to hold it for me. When my husband stopped in to pick it up for me tonight, he was told (and then I called and was told) that they would not honor that price after all and that it was $79.99. Boo Radio Shack. Bad customer service!

I live in pensacola fl and the three radio shacks nearby me were sold out. I told my mother who lives in Philadelphia pa and she called radio shack there and they had gotten a shipment in the next day. The same day she called RS she had also called best buy to see if they would price match – and they did! My mother ran right over and picked one up; and while she was there a lady called wanting THREE of them but they only had 1 left. Haha. So excited!

Kristen– thank you. my walmart was sold out from price matching. so i went to another WM and they had them in stock. they would not price match as it was an on-line deal. i am fustrated as one store is price matching and the other isn’t? thanks again!
