HOT! Getting Toasty! Lukewarm Starting To Melt Ice Ice Baby
0.0 / 0 ratings

As I mentioned in my High and Low post from last week, this is a BIG week for me and my family! We are in the process of moving a few streets over to a home that has more space. And although we are only moving a few blocks, it is still not a fun process (but the end result will definitely be worth the stress!).

So, my low is simply the fact that my days and nights have been all-consumed with packing, unpacking, organizing, cleaning, re-organizing etc. (Thank goodness for my sidekicks who have been helping like crazy on Hip2Save!). If I never have to open another box, that will be fine by me!

However, my high has been my amazing mother, Susan. She arrived this morning (she lives about an hour from Boise) and is here to help me for the rest of this week. Besides the fact that she is offering up an extra pair of hands to help with the packing and unpacking, she also brings along an amazing sense of humor and an upbeat spirit (both of which I really need, especially today!). Aren’t moms just wonderful?!

[h2s_box]Every Wednesday, I share my high(s) and low(s) for the past week and I encourage you to do the same in the comment section below. My high(s) will simply be the best or most exciting thing that happened to me over the last week or so and my low(s) will be something not so great that took place. [/h2s_box]

What a great thing to do…. I am trying to start a blog and I think this is a great idea. I had to retire from teaching 2 months ago because of MS and I’ve been trying to stay positive and keep busy by starting a blog. I guess my high is that I’m staying positive…. LOL. And my low is that blogs are confusing the crap out of me and don’t know how to start.. LOL.

    • Emily

I was diagnosed with MS 4 years ago, stay positive!

  2. Andrea

I know you eat healthy, but do you work out too and if so what do you do? You look great!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I do try to make a point to exercise on a regular basis and on the weekends we always try to do something active with the kiddos. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Rebe

Your mom looks awesome too! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Casey

I was going to say the same thing! Collin looks awesome!!!!

  3. melissa

    …unless that box is a FREEBIE. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Kat

Cherish the time you have together, and give her an extra hug for me!

  5. Julie

My mom is helping me move too! I didn’t realize how much stuff we accumulated in 7 years!! Giving a lot away and reorganizing, I know I’ll be glad when its over…..if we ever get there ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Moms are the best ๐Ÿ™‚

Im still trying to lose baby weight so my high today is finding out i have lost 5 lbs since I started my diet. It’s not a whole lot but its a start.

My low is being disappointed in something a close relative did.

  7. Patricia

There’s no doubt, your Mom is awesome…and proud of you! Happy Mother’s Day, to both of you. (Moving is crazy…find time to laugh…)

  8. Jennifer

My high this week is I’m pregnant with a very healthly little girl. My low is I’m on bedrest till next Wednesday, which is extremely hard when u are so use to be super busy!

  9. Kris

I know that you have moved cross country before, as have I, and I swear that in town moving is way harder and worse. When you are going a great distance, you have no choice but to get it together and get it done and organized, but when you are going a few blocks, you somehow don’t find that same motivation!

    • Em

Yes! Everyone thinks I’m crazy when I say this!!!
When you move towns away you are forced to pack. When you are moving blocks away you feel like you can just move stuff my the car full and really don’t have a good motivation!

    • Emily

Oh my goodness, me too! The hardest move I did was when I moved exactly 3 blocks from where I lived. I thought I could do it all taking a car load at a time and then one truck load when my parents came to help me move heavy stuff. Oh my goodness – it took forever! Next time I move, a house away or a hundred miles away, I will rent the biggest truck our SUV can tow and I will make as few trips as possible. I hope we only have one more move in our future when we buy a house and then never, ever, ever move again!

My mom lives about 2.5 hours away, but last summer when I broke my foot and my husband was on a business trip (literally on the other side of the country) my mom came up right away to take me to the Dr and stayed to help me take care of my son and dog for the rest of the week. So glad you have a close relationship with your mom. My husband’s parents passed away several years ago and I am very thankful that both my parents are active in our lives.

  12. Jamie

My low is that I didn’t get an amazing job that I interviewed for, and I don’t know why.

My high is having a supportive husband that listens to me when I need him to.

  13. Tina Leiter

My High was my son graduated from college w/honors and 2 degrees My Low is that my Mom was not here to see it (She’s in heaven). Happy Mothers Day to you both!

  14. Deborah

My high this week was when my 1 year old son brought his baby blanket to me to share with him. It was such genuine love. My low..hearing him coughing in the middle of night because he is sick.

  15. Savannah Anderson

I met your mom and sister a few year’s ago (and you, too!) at The Rhinelander in Portland, Oregon. Remember? I had one the dinner contest. I brought a friend. You and your family were so amazingly kind. I have always meant to tell you thank you. We had a wonderful time. I was so happy to meet you! Your mom seems wonderful.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Of course I remember you! It was wonderful meeting you and your friend too! ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Savannah Anderson

I meant “won” not one! Geez. Thanks, again! Sounds like you are enjoying Boise. My husband’s aunt just moved there, she loves it.

  16. Ashlee

We moved from Ohio to NYC 9 months ago. My Mom is coming to visit tomorrow for the first time. I’m very excited. Definitely my high for the week. My low is unfortunately the stomach flu that has hit my kids. ๐Ÿ™

  17. laura

I hop someday can move……… enjoy the new house

  18. Mary

Love that your mom is there with you and it is a wonderful high point….but …honestly??? You look so great for being under so much stress! That should be your high!!! Skinny little lady!

  19. Adrimim

I had an awesome high today. I work in a high school library and we decided to treat our student aides with an end of the year lunch from Chipotle. I let the 16 of them order whatever they wanted. They’ve been amazing helpers all year long. I called Chipotle to place the order and asked if they would have any discount available for schools and was told to ask for the manager when I was at the counter. When I went to pick it up, the manager told me that the lunch was “on them”. They covered our entire $180 bill!! Awesome company!!

    • Em

      Chipotle is a GREAT company!

    • J

I love Chipotle..n now I love them even more for doing that!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Wow! What a wonderful company! That warms my heart. ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Mar

Collin, you are a wonderful inspiration to all of us and as I sit here trying to loose 40lb. I see you and say, “you see you can do it too.”

  20. Ashlie

My bro is moving from ok to ky in a few weeks. Any one have tips on hiring a moving company? We could use any suggestions! Never had to move this far before, and his wife is due soon!

    • Emily

Don’t go for the cheapest ones unless you want your stuff to be handled with less than care. Check out their reviews. I believe if you go online and rent a budget truck they have suggested moving companies to help you as one of the checkout options and you can see reviews. Label your boxes very well. Egg boxes from the grocery store make amazing moving boxes and they usually save them in a corner b/c so many people come in to ask for them. I’ve never hired movers, i’ve always rented trucks and done it myself. If you do hire movers and you need something important very soon after you arrive, take it yourself. Often these companies will fill a truck with more than one person’s stuff and their truck breaks down, gets stuck in traffic and shows up late. My friend’s stuff showed up two weeks late b/c the truck broke down in the middle of the country and no shop keeps those parts on hand, it had to be ordered. So, if you need it soon – take it with you!!

I live near Cleveland Ohio. So naturally my high is watching Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight safely be reunited with their families. After being robbed of their youth for over 10 years naturally my low is seeing the evil that took place so close to home. My prayers are with these strong amazing women and their families.

  22. Sara

I am in the same boat Collin. We are an active military family with three kids under the age of seven and we both work full time. We are moving 1.5 hours away without much support, beyond my parents on Friday. I’ve been battling a chronic illness for months and my husband has had to take on many of my responsibilities. It is funny how we always rise to the challenge, no matter how great it may be. Will you share with us some tips and tricks about settling into your new place?

  23. Lisa Parlin

Sounds like you have a wonderful mom! Good Luck on the move!

  24. Ketsy

Moving again? ๐Ÿ™ happy moters day though ๐Ÿ˜€

  27. tracy

low- i guess hockey. my bf is nonstop checking on scores and watching them all the time. ugh

    • stacy

      I know your pain lol

  28. brio

My low is that I’m a teacher and one parent is mad at me because her son (my student) isn’t performing to her expectations and it’s somehow my fault. My high is that it’s teacher appreciation week and my other 299 students and their parents have showered me in more love than I could possibly imagine!!

  29. Sarah

Collin~That is fantastic that you have such a helpful mom!!!!
My high today is that I only have one more day until my baby girl is born!!! (I have a c-section scheduled for early Friday morning) This is our third child and first girl ๐Ÿ™‚
My low is realizing all of the things that I need to do tomorrow and also realizing that my parents will be arriving tomorrow. (They are less than helpful and very self-absorbed ๐Ÿ™ I wish I had a mom like yours, but thankfully I have an AWESOME mother-in-law ๐Ÿ™‚ )

  30. Cathy

I’m curious if the people who bought your house have kiddos? I bet they loved that little play area you made. Can’t wait to see all the neat-o ideas you have for your new house, I hope I smell a coffee with colin coming on ๐Ÿ™‚

  31. Ann

Low: Finding out that my 64 yo stepfather has stage 4 stomach cancer.
High: Seeing how strong my Mom is and how well she is handling it under the circumstances. I’m so proud of her. I have never seen her so strong.

    What a week.

    • Emily

I’m so very sorry to hear about that Ann. I work for a hospital and I’m going to give you the best advice that I can – NEVER ever, ever, be afraid to get a 2nd opinion. When my grandfather was very sick, we had him drink ensure. It helped him keep his weight on and helped him live longer with a high quality of life. For awhile, it was all that he would eat or drink, and we went through it like crazy. If you ask your friends that coupon to save them for you, you’ll find really good deals on it. Again, I’m SO sorry. Also – call your local hospital, ask for their Senior Services department and get to know the people there – they have access to every resource you could ever need. They can make calls for you and get you all set up with whatever you need and even things you may not know that you need. The hospital will give you a case manager but you should also call Sr. Services. They’ll help your mom get into a support group if she wants that, they’ll help you find home nursing or insurance solutions, they’re amazing resources.

  32. Sarah

Ummm do you really have to look that good moving lol?!?!

  33. Emily

For as much money as you save me, I wish I could repay you by hopping over to your house to help you pack (I’m quite good at it,) load things into a truck and unload them into your new house. You do SO much for me and my family. You save me so much time b/c I don’t have to find these deals on my own, you and your community of fans share the best deals and you save me so much money on items that we need. Often times you post deals at the exact moment that my appliance, etc. dies and I think – crap, now I need a new toaster oven, gas grill, carpet cleaner, television (and that’s just the stuff that’s died in the last two weeks!) I wish that I could help you out too.

  34. Rebecca B.

High- going home or the summer from college tomorrow.
Low- still have to move everything out and take a final, and i’m the last one to leave, so it makes it harder on me.

    • Rebecca B.

I do this in a group setting. However, we call it rose and thorn. I find it really useful in having clients highlight the positive aspects of their week by translating their thorns into roses. I also participate and this morning I thought my challenge ( thorn) was leaving my internship and it was also my rose because it was a wonderful learning experience.

  36. Emily

My low is that my mom is not so wonderful, she moved out of our shared apartment with no notice and left me unable to pay rent, forced to move, and without childcare. My high is well I guess I can’t really think of one.

    • Manny

      Sorry to hear that.

  37. Deb

Wow! How’s that for her Mother’s Day gift to YOU???? Nice mom! I’m sure you let her know how much you love and appreciate her. I hope I’m that good of a mom to my kids. I sure try to be.

  38. Melynda Keenon

My low has been just trying to clean 25 years of stuff collected. Weather is bad on the days I am good. My high for the week is that I am faithfully drinking herb green tea, with my own herbs. I am going to heal my body.

  39. Ann Dee

Congratulations! I feel your pain and joy. I’m happy for YOU to get a larger home for those icy winters. I am in Vernal, UT. I love having a bit more room for when you’re stuck inside for over half the year. It sure is nice.

  40. Sarah

Thanks for making me think of a high… My Mom has stage 4 cancer, I’ve been taking unpaid leave to help her with appointments so my bills and family time is hard. I haven’t slept in months. A high would be…I have an opportunity to possibly run my own business soon and reduce stress and I have 4 beautiful healthy children who I need to focus on and stay strong for. ๐Ÿ™‚
