Gettysburg – Director’s Cut
Marking the 150th-anniversary commemoration of the Civil War, Ronald F. Maxwell’s acclaimed film now arrives in a Director’s Cut featuring 17 minutes of compelling additional footage. Filmed at actual battle locations and full of authentic details, this rousing and soulful movie plunges you into the heat of the bloodiest battle fought on American soil. History comes alive with intense and spirited battles as well as the dilemmas, motivations and fears of the leaders. Tom Berenger, Jeff Daniels, Martin Sheen and Stephen Lang star in this magnificent epic based on Michael Shaara’s Pulitzer Prize-winning The Killer Angels.
Gods & Generals – Extended Director’s Cut
Reedited from beginning to end with amplified scenes and an added subplot, this all-new Extended Director’s Cut of Ronald F. Maxwell’s Gettysburg prequel restores his original vision of the fierce allegiances and combat of the early American Civil War. From Jeffrey M. Shaara’s bestseller, this commemorative release coinciding with the 150th anniversary of the North/South conflict incorporates an hour of footage never seen before. The story of actor and future Presidential assassin John Wilkes Booth (Chris Conner) is newly integrated throughout the narrative alongside the legendary heroism of Joshua Chamberlain (Jeff Daniels), “Stonewall” Jackson (Stephen Lang) and Robert E. Lee (Robert Duvall). And the battle of Antietam is now included along with the fateful clashes at Manassas, Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville.
As a price comparison, this same set sells for $59.90 on Walmart.com and is the lowest price it’s been on Amazon!

The regular DVD set is $33.32. Amazing deal! We live near Gettysburg and will be attending the reenactments in July. This will make a great Father’s Day gift for my husband. Thank you!
Small world:) I grew up in Gettysburg and worked right on Steinwehr at the Friendly’s through High School and college. Actually, some of my dad’s friends were extras in the movie:) We’re currently stationed in Hawaii so we’ll miss the 150th events…I don’t know how I feel about that. Happy to not have to fight the major crowds and traffic that are sure to be there, but kinda sad because I always loved watching the reenactments. I hope you’re able to go to Dobbin House while you’re there…yummy! (be prepared for it to be extremely busy!) And if you’ve never been there try the French Onion soup…my mom said it’s some of the best she’s had, though it has been awhile.
Sorry for my ramble. I miss home:)
BTW, I wonder if for this special edition if they went in and blurred out the cars that are in the background of one of the scenes. Hehe;)
What a small world! I grew up in Chambersburg and went to college in Shippensburg. We were married on Sachs Covered Bridge and had our reception at The Dobbin House. The best french onion soup ever! 😉 The crowds this summer are going to be crazy, but we’re so excited. I think they’re going to have live streaming, so maybe you can watch from Hawaii. I’m sorry you miss home. However, I’m jealous that you’re in Hawaii! Small world. Thanks for writing!!
