For Week #4 of HIP’S Summer Challenge, we headed to a local park here in Boise for a FREE screening of the movie, Hotel Transylvania. If your city offers free movies in the park during the summer as well, I highly encourage you to make plans to attend at least one. Not only is the activity a great one for the entire family, but it is 100% free – love that! 😀

As you can see from the pictures, we were joined by my nephews as well.

HIP Tips:

* Dress appropriately and bring a layers of clothes (don’t forget a sweatshirt)!

* Bring a comfy blanket to sit on, pillows and consider bringing extra blankets to wrap up in if it gets chilly.

* Get there early to get a good seat. Our park in Boise offers free games and crafts for kids, free face painting and live music so there is lots to keep the kids entertained.

* Bring lots of food and drinks. I don’t know about you but if my kiddos are hungry/thirsty, a fun activity can turn into a disaster. With that being said, I highly recommend you pack lots of yummy snacks like sliced fruit, popcorn (of course! :D), pretzels, cheese sticks etc. To make it extra fun, we took the kids to the store in advance and let them each pick out a Theater-Sized Candy to bring along.

* Don’t forget bug spray!

* Bring a flashlight or headlamp to help you get to your car safely after the movie ends.

Have you ever been to a FREE Movie Night at your local park before?! If so, share your experience with us!

Every Monday throughout this summer, I will be publishing a Weekly Post centered around different activities that I have personally done with my 3 kiddos (ages 6, 8, and 11) for around $10 or less. You can check out previous Summer Challenge posts here:

    My church does a family movie night in the summer every year on the lawn. We love going!

    Every Saturday night at the library where I work, we have a family movie night. People can bring in in light/not too messy snacks and beverages. We show recent movies and it’s a big hit!

    last summer, the bf and I were looking for cheap/free date nights and actually went to a movie in the park. We had a great time. We got to cuddle under the stars and watch a kiddie movie…there will always be a special place in my heart for cartoons/kid movies. I brought some drinks, chips and fruit for us and our park had free popcorn. We brought lawn chairs, but ended up just laying on the blanket. We will definitely be doing this again this year. Dont forget the bug spray!

    I cant believe you have to bring a sweatshirt in case it gets chilly! Wow, so foreign here in Florida. To go outside here is like stepping into a muggy swamp like atmosphere with lots of bugs. I long for winter. LOL!

    The very first movie night we went to got chilly but ever since it’s been 98 degrees here in Texas. We have to worry about bugs, sweat and dehydration more than anything but it was so much fun!

    Here in SLC they do these too, my kiddos can’t swing a late night like that yet. Hopefully next or the next. They are way into sleepy time before it gets dark at 9!

    Our town has free concerts on Thursdays where familes brings snacks (sometimes dinner like pizza, grinders, salads) there are also ice cream trucks set up). The kids run around in the back and play soccer. It is tons of fun until the mosquitos take over later on. There is not enough bug spray where we are!

    Collin – I visited Boise briefly for work a couple of weeks ago. I flew all day Monday, was indoors for work most of Tuesday and flew out Wednesday. However, I was able to enjoy some of downtown Monday and Tuesday night. It was beautiful out. Though it was hot and a lot of the locals were complaining I loved it. I am from New England and hot hear includes lots of uncomfortable humidity so I loved the dry heat. On my plane ride home I was sitting near someone that looked a lot like you!!!! My son (who is 7) wants to go back and enjoy riding his bike on the big sidewalks and running through the sprinkler near the Wells Fargo builidng – where I was working.

    My community does this all summer too! It’s so much fun for the kids! Even better, there are no bugs to contend with in Phoenix and the evening weather is perfect!
