My low this week has definitely been the lack of sleep I have been getting. My 6-year-old daughter, Piper, keeps having nightmares and climbing into our bed (it seems like this has happened almost every other night for the past week!) . We have been diligent about putting her back in her own bed (and lying with her for a bit), however, the last couple of nights she’s stayed in our bed which has definitely not helped much in the sleep department! Hopefully next week will be better and we can all get lots of sleep in our own beds. We will see… ๐Ÿ™‚

My high this week has definitely been watching my kiddos start another season of soccer! It’s so much fun to see them enjoying the time spent outside, getting exercise, and just learning to be team players!

[h2s_box]Every Wednesday, I share my high(s) and low(s) for the past week and I encourage you to do the same in the comment section below. My high(s) will simply be the best or most exciting thing that happened to me over the last week or so and my low(s) will be something not so great that took place. [/h2s_box]

To solve this with my son, I told him he can come into our room but had to bring a pillow and a blanket and sleep on the floor. If he did, he could stay. If he didn’t, I would haul him back to his room. This worked great for us. I had to start this because one night he crawled into our bed and slipped under the covers from the bottom. I woke up with him between my legs and I was pinned down because he was on top of my sheet but under the comforter! LOL.

We’re a soccer family too. I love watching my son play. He’s a hardcore soccer kid ๐Ÿ™‚

My low is dealing with soccer parents that did not get put on my husband’s team, acting as if we are trying to “stack” a team of 6 year olds :(. My high is just having sweet, healthy little guys!

I am in nursing school and learned a couple of weeks ago that some children do have the recurring nightmares. They are called night terrors and they to will pass and as quickly as they started.

Your sons soccer outfits are so cute Collin! The first thing that popped into my head was, I wonder how much Collin paid for them lol!

My low: our elec. went out due to storms and we have two kids with special needs that do not understand so lots of meltdowns. My high: went to Starbucks the same morning and was telling the cashier about my rough morning and she took care of my bill. It was such a nice gesture I could have cried (happy & grateful tears of course:)).

Not sure why that is such a difficult age for sleeping. My oldest used to sleepwalk around that age. It only lasted for a short while. I remember one time I was going up to bed and he was standing at the top of the stairs. Scary!

6 is defiantly a bad age for sleep issues. I remember being 5-7 years old and having night terrors and sleep walking. The nightmares went away eventually but did come back when I was a teenager. (even now I can tell you exactly what those dreams were about) Sleep walking was the worst especially waking up outside in the dark.

I’ve had so many lows every day this past week I’m so ready for my high to come.

Speaking of my high it’s looking forward to this weekend which is not only my birthday on Sunday, but taking my 2 year old to the zoo Saturday where she will be able to have her first Pony Ride!! ( Not to mention all our tickets and lunch is FREE!!!)

      Happy Happy Birthday!!!

My low was that my 2 year old fell this week and his front tooth was pushed back, it was the same tooth that was chopped because he fell twice as his tooth was coming out as a baby, year ago his sister dentist saw him and he said it was from cavities not falling, and that I should stop breast-feeding because it’s the reason why my baby had cavities, he said that he should rill it and fill it so his permanent tooth doesn’t get affected, and that it will hurt and he would cry the whole time of the procedure, I was scared, and couldn’t believe a natural thing like breast-feeding could do that, I couldn’t stop breast-feeding him or take him back to that dentist ,my mother instinct, was telling me that I should seek a second opinion , well I waited for a year and finally decided to take him after his accident from falling last week, today I was trying to prepare myself for the worst, another Dr saw my son and assured me that he doesn’t have cavities, and doesn’t need anything else other than waiting for his tooth to probably come back , my high I was so relieved that my son was ok, and that I followed my mother instinct .

I’m so glad you listened to yourself too! And no, breastfeeding doesn’t cause cavities necessarily…leaving food or cows milk or juice or anything on the teeth besides water can cause cavities. I’m coming from years of breastfeeding and all you do is brush or wipe their teeth off. What a crazy dentist! Please post a bad review of this dentist online so others will not go to him!

Sounds like a good excuse to get a nice king size pillow top! During t-storms, the dog, cat and at least one kid ends up on our bed, so a bigger bed is a blessing. My low was my friend’s funeral, she was only 36 and had brain cancer. The high, is adding her 7 year old daughter to our family trip next week.

  12. Carrie

I’m not sure if this would work for your family, but my husband said when he had bad dreams as a kid, was sick, etc. that he was allowed to bring bedding in and sleep on the floor of his parents bedroom, but not in the bed. He said he still felt comforted and loved, but everyone got much better sleep.

  13. Vicki

Collin I hope this suggestion helps you as much as you have helped me sav money. It sounds a bit weird, but it worked wonders with my son, who was a perfect sleeper, started having nightmares and waking us up every night. As we would put him to bed at night we would decide on a place to meet in our dreams. We would meet at the beach, park, local ice cream store, etc. We’ve even ridden our bikes on the rings of Saturn :). It gave him something fun to focus on an helped him sleep through the night. Best of luck!

High…my boys are finally over the fever they’ve been running (the baby last week, the toddler this week). Will be able to enjoy the toddler’s 3rd birthday this weekend. Low…missed the application ‘deadline’ online for a new job I’ve been eyeing. The deadline said today which technically isn’t for another 3 hours but online says the posting is closed :(. Between the sick kids, party planning, and the daily grind I totally missed the boat. Was looking forward to a new (better paying, less stressful) job.

High: Reconnecting with an old friend ๐Ÿ™‚
Low: Realizing that we no longer have much in common ๐Ÿ™

    • Cindy

I have that happen occasionally… Don’t know to stay in touch or not. What did you do?

  16. Toma

They are only little for a short time! Soon they will be teenagers and those nights wil be but a memory. If it helps her to sleep in your bed or you in hers, do it! Speaking as a child with nightmares and not allowed to sleep in my parents bed which only made it worse and a parent that will do anything to not have my children go through that.

Another one of the million and one reasons I love Hip2Save. Collin, you are REAL girlfriend! You don’t just post a bunch of bargains. Your blog is about REAL LIFE and I love it ๐Ÿ˜‰

Here’s wishing to sweet dreams in your household in the coming weeks!

So my “high” for the week has been the beautiful weather we’ve been having the last couple of days. It is starting to feel like fall.

Our low for the week. My husband and I are volunteer puppy raisers for Guiding Eyes for the Blind. One of our fellow puppy raisers named Marty was walking his guide dog in training in Virginia Beach last Saturday night and they were attacked by a crazed hit and run driver. Both were seriously injured. We are hoping the police can find this person and bring them to justice. We are sickened by this. The local TV station came and did a story on it yesterday. I wouldn’t normally do this but I am posting it here. Maybe by chance someone will know who did this…..

Please help us find this person!

Low: I got on the scale after my vacation to Charleston, SC.
    High: I snagged 2 bags of M & M’s for 14 cents!!!!

So sorry to hear about the nightmares! I know you ahve plenty of suggestions but here is one more for on something that may work…we created “no monster spray/ faiery spray” (depending on the girl/boy factor!) in my house which is a spray bottle decorates with anything that sparkles…beads, glitter something to make it pretty. Then we put some water and a little scented oil in the bottle and left it in the room for when they woke up. We left a note with a quick story of the good dream fairy leaving something for them and they could spray every corner nook and cranny before they went to sleep and leave it by their bed to spray some more if they needed it during the night. Maybe that will help! ๐Ÿ™‚

My low for the week is that our bank keeps coming up with last minute stuff we’re missing for our mortgage process to be finalized (after they assured us multiple times that they had everything). Our closing date has already been pushed back and since they were late meeting the deadline yesterday it looks like we’re going to lose the house altogether ๐Ÿ™

My high is that we had beautiful weather yesterday and my husband and I went and got ice cream and took a long walk with our dog last night. ๐Ÿ™‚

  21. Mindy

I am so relieved to hear that this is normal. My 7 year old son has also been having nightmares almost every/every other night. It is miserable! He doesn’t want to go to bed, because he’s afraid of them. Glad to know this is somewhat normal behavior. Will have to give some of these suggestions a try tonight!

  22. Erin D.

Nightmares could be from anxiety from starting school. Kids worry if their friends will lik them, if their teacher will be nice, if they will have hard homework, etc. My friend started a “God Box” where you have your child write their fears and put it in the box for God to solve for them while they sleep.
