I tried to use a coupon once (albeit a manufacturer’s coupon, not a target coupon) on a clearance item at target and the cashier wouldn’t allow me to use it because the price was already discounted. I looked at Target’s coupon policy and while it doesn’t state that coupons CAN’T be used on clearance items, it does say that they reserve the right to refuse coupons which seems to be at the discretion of a particular store’s management. BOO! Anyone else experience this?

Very true Rach! I tried to use a coupon for the Gilette $6/off 3 and the cashier refused to even scan the coupon and immediately said I could not use it on trail sizes even though the coupon did not state this anywhere. Then said i could not use a target and MF coupon for the same item. The manager came over and when she scanned the gilette the screen came up to enter the coupon amount but she stated it was against Target policy. I didn’t want to be argumentative so I just let it be and left the trial sizes. 🙁
Target isn’t supposed to allow overage, they coupon is to be adj down to the selling price. But, I’ve had a few slip through with the entire value deducting. Speaking of Gillette, I emailed Collin earlier about the $6/3 cpn when I tried to use it at WM this morning. I never noticed it until the cashier pointed it out that they are to not allow overage on P&G coupons anymore b/c they now state under Dealer conditions “No cash or credit in excess of shelf price may be returned to customer or applied to transaction”!!!
At my target, the full size Gillette shaving cream was only $1.99 so I was able to get 3 for free. Did you check the regular section as well? (I know prices vary store to store.)
My Target in Little Rock AR will take all coupons and even overrides them if they beep and I’ve bought the item.
Its the haters lol! Some cashiers get so angry when you get things for free or really cheap. I dont know why, because they could do the same thing…but they do. Some cashiers are very happy for you, others will do anything to stop you from using that coupon. I learned at target that if u ask them if u can use a coupon, they will tell u no. I usually just look for the friendliest face, engage them in pleasant conversation, and hope for the best. 9 times out of 10 it works. Once u find a cashier that isnt a hater, remember their face/name for next time!
at the target in Anderson, sc I have noticed I coupon with other ladies and a manager is immediately at which ever cashier is checking us out and “supervises” our couponing transaction. I would say, target, “targets” the couponers here and it makes me very uncomfortable to even shop there. Even going so far as to question why I would purchase so many of any one item, while I try not to be argumentative, but point out the coupon limit is four.
I agree. I shop less and less at the Targets in our neighborhood. It seems like all the Targets I go to have issues with printed coupons. They don’t have issue with the coupons from the Sunday papers but the ones printed on the computers, they don’t seem to want to accept it. Even their own Target coupons, they don’t want it. Sometimes, I check out directly at their Customer Service Dept. because that’s where I end up going when the cashier won’t take the printed coupons.
I agree wholeheartedly. I have almost completely stopped shopping at Target for this very reason. Every time I try to use coupons, they tell me I can’t for really strange reasons. Everything from the picture on the Target coupon doesn’t match the item I am purchasing; even though the verbage confirms I have the correct brand, size, etc. To I can’t use coupons because I would be getting the item to free. I called Customer Service on the corporate level, and they told me coupon acceptance is up to individual stores. I hate how the Target cashiers make me feel, so I shop elsewhere.
Wow! That would make me so uncomfortable! Seems like it’s hit and miss for me. Some cashiers are super nice and one even gave me advice on the order to use the coupons and another told me about shop kick. And others not so happy about you saving money.
You have to spot the “young” cashiers. My boyfriend is a supervisor here in a target in CA. He says that most of the young cashiers hate their job so they really domt care. As opposed to “older” cashiers that actually take their job seriously and so they check every single coupon. I do not understand why they wouldnt want to take the coupons if they mail them out and get refunded the amount of the coupon plus .11 cents more, its its not like if they are losing money. If you have a bad experience at target you can call up headquaters and say you got bad customer service etc and they send someone to that store and they write up that employee
I have also found that guys tend to be more lenient than women.
lol when I go to Publix with my stack of coupons, I always go to the young guys….they’re fast and don’t read every single couple. The older women are the worst! I have a toddler, so a fast cashier is the best!

They are locked onto the racks and you have to get assistance to even handle them. The guys swore it wasn’t on sale, even when I asked to scan them. He said they would have the clearance tag on. I would have liked to scan them to see…
Erin, I, too, am in Va Beach. I learned that not each of the Targets always run the same sales! Once, I went to the one in Redmill and an item was on sale, but hubby and I went home to discuss the purchase first. Decided to get it, so went to the Target on S. Independence and it wasn’t on sale. They confirmed it was on sale at Redmill, but would not grant us the price difference. Sooooo…maybe it’s worth checking out the other Targets in the area if you’re already out and about?

Not on clearance in Tampa, but I bought 2 using 2 coupons (my daughter used one of the coupons) to put up for Christmas! Regular $18.99, used my own bag for $.05 off, $5 coupon and $.70 from Redcard. Total with tax was $14.17. I’m happy!
If you can get a good deal in a case like this, then great. But how is it fair to call corporate Target on a cashier who didn’t take your coupon? Potentially messing with someone’s livelihood? That’s just wrong.
Why not give that job to someone who cares enough about it to do a good job? Customer service is part of being a cashier if they can’t handle being polite then they need to work somewhere else.
My response was because someone posted earlier to contact corporate and attempt to get them in trouble if they do not honor the coupon. I said nothing about a rude cashier. If a cashier is being rude, then yes, they should be called on it. But to just call corporate and complain because a cashier was doing her job and didn’t honor a coupon? Again, it’s just wrong.
I think its appropriate to call corporate when a cashier is uneducated, and doing his or her job incorrectly. When you are using a coupon correctly and they refuse to scan/take it, then they are not “doing their job”.

Hi everyone I’m fairly new to this website and I still don’t 100% understand how coupons at target work (sorry if this is a really dumb question i’m heading to college next week so i’m trying to save up as much as possible). I want to get 3 pairs (if I find them of course), but do I have to print 3 coupons and do 3 separate purchases or print only 1 and it works for all 3? Thanks in advance!
On the target coupons you would need 3 separate coupons. You would need 2 computers to do this bc you can only print the coupons twice per computer. If you have a nice cashier you could do all 3 in 1 transaction. However I believe this coupon states something along the lines of one coupon one deal per customer. May be wrong, you would have to read the bottom of the coupon. Hope this helps some.
Not on sale @ the three Buffalo, NY Targets I went to: Niagara Falls, Amherst, & Walden. $18.99 at all three and no clearance. I’m gonna check the other 2 (Williamsville & North Buffalo) left this weekend but it doesn’t look likely.
I phoned every Target in Austin yesterday and they are not avail now. Two stores did say they had had them but were sold out.
The Skullcandy earbuds were on clearance for $9.98 at my Target in Palm Coast Florida and sadly they only had 1 left. I figured even at 4.98, with coupon, it was a good deal so I bought it. The register did beep with the coupon but the cashier bypassed it. I’m going to check out the Target in Daytona today and see what I can find. The coupon doesn’t expire until 9/2 so maybe I’ll have some luck at a later date. The past few times I was at Target my cashiers were super friendly and very interested in couponing. The Publix (grocery store) cashiers laugh when they see me coming and comment when I don’t have a lot of coupons with me. LOL The only place I have had a real problem with printed coupons was WalMart. The cashier said I was having a problem because I was price matching and using coupons and that WalMart was cracking down on coupons. She claims their new policy is to not override printed coupons if they beep because of coupon fraud. I think the “new policy” is up to each CSM because the cashier called one over and she told her to accept them. She was a little abrupt with me but I’ve been through her line without coupons and I think that’s just her sunny personality. 🙂
