School is in Session and The Color Run…

As I mentioned in my High/Low post last week, school is now back in full swing here in Boise, Idaho. So my low this week is just re-adjusting to a school schedule and helping my kids to re-adjust as well. Some of my kiddos definitely struggle with the first week of school (my youngest is not a fan of change!) so there were some tears and a bit of anxiety, but things will hopefully get easier by the end of this week.

Now on to my high – this past Saturday, I participated in a 5K Race called The Color Run. I was lucky enough to be able to run this race with my sister, Bryn and her sister-in-law. We had such a great time – this was honestly one of my most favorite races ever. It was extremely family-friendly and geared for all ages – there were families with strollers, teenagers, grandparents, college students etc. (they even had a kid dance-off contest at the end – so cute!). And I loved that the focus of the race was more about having fun and getting covered in paint versus being the first one to cross the finish line.

If you have never participated in The Color Run, I highly encourage you to check it out and see if a race is coming to a city near you. I am planning to take the kiddos with me next year! πŸ™‚

[h2s_box]Every Wednesday, I share my high(s) and low(s) for the past week and I encourage you to do the same in the comment section below. My high(s) will simply be the best or most exciting thing that happened to me over the last week or so and my low(s) will be something not so great that took place. [/h2s_box]

My seventeen year old just did The Color Run, here in Cincinnati. She had so much fun. I had fun with the laundry:)

We just found out school is canceled for Thursday – Friday here in Minneapolis b/c our school has no air-conditioning and it is just too hot! Never remember that happening for me growing up…Side note: if anyone has a $10 off Victoria Secret code they don’t want I would love it. πŸ™‚ daelalli at Gmail dot com. Thanks!

We did The Color Run this past Saturday also, in Salt Lake City. We took our two young boys and pushed them in a jogging stroller. We loved it and so did they – definitely an experience we’ll never forget, and plan on repeating again next year! πŸ™‚

I’ve been wanting to do a run and this looks like a blast!!

I did the Color Run last year in Columbus…definitely a fun 5K! Lovin this year’s shirts! This year my friends and I changed it up and did the Glo Run.

My soon to be sis-in-law mentioned doing one of these, it looks like a ton of fun. My high for the week was my kids’ first week is now behind them and it was a breeze! Seriously, I told them they were making my job easy. And that’s with my oldest starting middle school and my little one in school and on the bus all without her big brother around. My low was realizing how big they are…they aren’t babies anymore. πŸ™ But that’s okay, just new challenges ahead.

Really cute kids Collin. πŸ™‚ My daughter is starting preschool next week and I’m super nervous about it. Hopefully she will like it. My high: spending a relaxing afternoon my my kiddos at the gym and just having fun with them. My low: My house is a pretty messy at the moment. No matter how much I try to clean it, my house never stays clean for long.

Hi Crystal–I am in the same boat with how messy my house is right now! I have 2 kids and work full-time and I try to clean and it never stays that way lol! If anyone has any helpful hints or suggestions that would be great! πŸ™‚

      • meg

My suggestion is don’t even worry about it πŸ™‚ My daughter is 23 and my son is 17. They never talk about how clean the house was when they were little…but they remember all the fun things we did!! Baking cookies…doing crafts..playing games…swimming…and just having fun. Enjoy your kids…in the blink of an eye they are all grown up πŸ™‚

Thanks, Meg. I love the poem “Song for a Fifth Child” with the lines “Where is the mother whose house is so shocking? She’s up in the nursery, blissfully rocking?” and “The cleaning will wait for tomorrow, for children grow up as I’ve learned to my sorrow. So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust, go to sleep. I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep.”
It means a lot when a mom who has gone before me gives this advice – I have a five year old and 7 month old and things are never ever completely clean and tidy. But we have a blast and that includes making creations that make more messes — I never want to stifle that creativity in my daughter. Thanks for the reminder:)

I obsess about having a clean house because I grew up in such a disastrous one and it always bothered me. However with having 4 children of my own, babysitting two others daily, and one on occasion and my sons two friends who lost their mom being here often…my house can get to be really bad. My hint is no matter what, every single solitary day dedicate 20 minutes to cleaning. Once you get it clean, you’ll be surprised what you can do in 20 minutes. Start the washer, load the dishes, wipe the counters, dust the tv cabinet/computer area and wipe down and Swiffer the bathroom are usually what I accomplish in the 20 minutes.

I’m right there with you. I’m due in 5 weeks and had a long list of things I planned on cleaning but I’m barely managing to pick up after my toddler! And it’s not like its going to be any easier once she’s here so I will just have to deal with a dirty, messy house for awhile.

One of my favorite quotes was from Phyllis Diller…

“Cleaning your house while your kids are still growing is like shoveling the sidewalk before it stops snowing”.

I don’t have a lot of memories of my mom playing with me when I was little, but I remember that the house was always spic and span. I am doing my best to make sure that my kids know that I won’t be the same way. πŸ™‚

    • Nicole

  13. lily

  14. Melissa

I always wonder if all that colored dust chokes people. It looks like it would.
