Sent from reader, Bonnie:

For the past 8 years, I have worked for a tutoring company that offers free tutoring to low income/low achieving students. At my back to school events, I like to do a raffle for a free backpack filled with school supplies. Because of the great deals you have helped me to get at Staples, Office Depot, Walgreens, etc., I am always able to give this away for very little to no cost. All the items in the backpack (pictured above) cost me 5 to 10 cents or were free!

Also consider including your supplies in an Operation Christmas Child shoebox. Such a great cause!

Yes, I’ve done that also. I’m looking all year for items for the Operation Christmas shoe boxes.

Great idea! While I am currently stockpiling school supplies for my three kids under thre, this is great for any leftovers not needed! Great thing about school supplies is they never expire!

My mom works in a low-income school. Whenever I can get back to school supplies for free and cheap I buy them and give them to her. Many of the kids in her school go without school supplies because their parents can’t afford them.

I live in a large midwestern city. We have a warehouse here where teachers from specific school districts (high poverty) can come and “shop” for free for donated school supplies. One of the TV stations also has a “Stuff the Bus” campaign and collects donated supplies. I save up all of my free/cheap supplies, gleaned from places like Staples’ sales, and donate them, plus some of the supplies go into my Operation Christmas Child box.

My MIL was a public school teacher in a low-income area and spent literally hundreds of dollars per year on supplies for her students.
