These are bogo @ Publix, so 54 cent a jar.

    • Ashley

      Woop woop! Thanks!

  2. Darlene

I love a good sale but I’m boycotting Barilla due to the insensitive homophobic remarks their president made this week. He’s trying to apologize now but it’s too late. He won’t get my money.

    • CW

      Ditto.

    • CW

Totally agree. I think after the Publix sale and coupons I only paid like .02 for 2 pastas and they got returned to Publix that same day.

    • Emily

Thanks for the info. I was going to buy, but not anymore.

    • Ashley

I didn’t hear anything offensive–I just think he has his definition of the family values he wants to portray in his ad. It comes down to capitalism–if the majority of buyers are straight, who are you going to market your product to and feature in the ad? He didn’t seem condescending or rude. It just seemed like he had a clear direction of the picture he wanted for his company image. That’s all.

      • Maria

Well said Ashley. We love Barilla products and will continue to buy them.

        • shannon

I will continue to buy them too.

          • Leonora

Same here, will continue to buy. I believe their sales will skyrocket actually because so many people appreciate them taking a stand

      • Kristen

I’m not trying to say anyone should or shouldn’t boycott Barilla, but he did say that he “doesn’t agree” with homosexuals, and “I absolutely don’t respect adoptions in gay families.” I could certainly see why someone would be offended by that!

    • Lisa

Us as well Ashley, I donated 20 boxes of Barilla the other day! Will no longer have their products in our home! I would rather eat dirt than something produced by someone so ignorant.

  3. Jess Cr

There is also a $0.75/1 coupon in one of the inserts.
And if you have the J4U safeway price of $1.79 limit 1, makes it $1.04.
Are safeway doubles 4 coupons up to $0.50 so I got mine for $0.54

  4. Jill

Boycotting all Barilla products due to the asinine comments made by the preisdent of the company. Shame on him.

    • CW

      absolurely…

    • janel

What did he say i didn’t hear about it

    • Suz

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I think we just found our new favorite company.

      • Edie

        LOL

  5. steph

Don’t have any pricing but there is a catalina printing at certain stores for $2 when you purchase 3. So if your store doubles the coupons you could score a good deal. I guess just check your store for the catalina info. I know Kroger for one is participating.

  6. Whitney

I got a $1 off 1 jar coupon in my insert today.

    • Jennifer

we received the $1 off in Iowa too!

  7. susan

You guys go ahead and boycott them, ppl are so ridiculous. Lets boycott a companies products b/c they don’t have the same opinion as you do. Isn’t it the same thing? So you ppl are the only ones that have the right to have an opinion on this topic, and anyone that doesn’t agree to h*ll w/them? He never said anything against them other than he would not be using them in his ads, b/c he supports the “traditional marriage” concept. Get over yourselves.

    • CW

thats discrimination against a group of people, even for ads. It is very wrong. And let’s say they only used that group of people in their ads and not the traditional ones. Plenty of people would be flipping out and boycotting too. It is inappropriate treatment of a group of human beings and it’s wrong.

      • Ketsy

I agree with you CW. I think he’s entitled to his opinion but they are marketing and selling a product so personal opinions should be second. Especially with families and children and social media. Teens and even younger children watch the news and hear about these remarks. Imagine how it would affect them and their families if they have a nontraditional family. You’re entitled to your opinion, so long you’re not trying to sell me something. Ha! If you’re selling me then it’s not just your brand but your image. Let the president make his statement and let the consumers make theirs by not purchasing.

On a side and similar note, it’s happened with restaurants, etc and even the Today show had segments on it. If a restaurant disagrees with nontraditional families or with mommies with children, wouldn’t you feel that they would spit in your food before serving it to you.

      • Kari

CW – I totally agree with you!

    • Kathleen

People can choose to boycott it or not. That is what happens when you are the leader of a business and in the public eye. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, for me it is not about his personal views (although I do disagree with them)- it is the fact that he is intertwining them with his business (which yes, does include advertisements).

Collin, thanks for all that you do! Collin posted the deal, and as a consumer we can choose to do it or not. One of the things that I love about this website is that it feels like one little corner of the internet that is not overtaken by political or religious arguments. The above people seemed to just be posting facts letting other people know about the boycott. But when someone comes on the site and in response starts calling other people ridiculous, that makes me sad.

    • Jenny

Wrong. He said he’s against gay couples raising children. To infer that same sex couples are somehow incapable or ‘morally’ shouldn’t be parents is ignorant garbage. It’s not an “opinion”–it’s bigotry. And, PS: Barilla is already feeling the heat. Please read a more current news story to obtain more accurate information.

      • Amber

I don’t think it’s bigotry for not believing in a specific lifestyle. But for what it’s worth, I don’t care for their pasta sauce.

      • susan

        big·ot·ry
        ˈbigətrē/Submit
        noun
        1.
bigoted attitudes; intolerance toward those who hold different opinions from oneself.

I don’t see how this is bigotry, he has his opinions and others have theirs. He has a right to choose whoever he wants, to display his brand and what he wants it to stand for. He never spread any hate by choosing to stand by those principles. HOWEVER the ones that are up in arms and boycotting etc etc are being bigots in my opinion “intolerance towards those who hold different opinions from oneself.” Boycotting is fine, spreading hate towards the company and the ceo as a person b/c of it is entirely another.

        • Amber

Susan, you’re awesome 🙂 That’s exactly what I had in my head but didn’t know how to get it out in words.

        • Ger

Thank you Susan! I’m buying two jars tomorrow.

        • Kami

Amen, people are way to p.c. now, apparently no one is allowed to have or voice an opinion anymore. I am heading out tomorrow to support Barilla by stocking up on some pasta, and sauce. I am also sending a letter to the company thanking them for having traditional values and not being ashamed of them. Just because people have differences of opinions does not mean we are biggots or anything it just means we believe different things. I am sure all those people who are so “offended” by the comments made by one man are perfect and have never ever offended anyone in their lives.

          • Meg

            Well said

          • Nina

            Agree !

        • Jodi

Discrimination should not be accepted at all! To segregate one group as lesser or not equal to another group is discrimination pure and simple! By saying gay couples do not deserve the same rights as another group is bigotry pure & simple no matter how you want to sugar coat it. What if he said “i don’t believe in interracial couples so i won’t put them in my ad. And if African Americans don’t like it they can eat another pasta.” I’m sure they would eat another pasta & let the world know their displeasure with the CEO! Well, that’s what the LGBT community is doing!

          • deb

            I agree Kami

        • Jenny

So you found one definition that may be construed in a certain way to support your belief and think that’s a good point? That’s a logical fallacy. The issue here is prejudice, not semantics. But, for what its worth, here is another definition: “bigot (plural bigots) One who is strongly partial to one’s own group (e.g. religion, race, gender, political party, etc.) and is intolerant of those who differ.” This is an accurate description of Barilla. The opposite of Barilla’s bigotry would be a person who thought only gay people should have children, be thought of as a family, etc.; opposing his viewpoint doesn’t constitute bigotry, but good try.

          • Ger

So, you have just deemed everyone everywhere a bigot, based on your “logic”. Yep, that would include you too, based of course, on your own logic. The issue here is a difference of opinions.

    • Meg

Amen sister…bet they buy clothes made by children in sweat shops and have no problem with it!

      • makaylaisabel

Ha! Meg! Thank you Jenny 😉

To add to this, I dont care too much for the sauce but hey if you’re in for the deal the traditional is okay but not as good as Ragu or Prego and the garlic roasted is garbage, I wouldn’t buy that one.

  8. lisa

cvs has this 3/5 and if you spend 10 you get 3 in extra buck

    • Trena

Actually, that’s Bertolli, not Barilla 🙁

      • shelaghc

        But Bertolli supports marriage equality.
That’s a good enough reason for me to buy their product.

  9. trippy79

Hey! Least we won’t have to worry about the shelves being cleared at the stores! =P

    • Amber

      Right !

  10. Jenny

It’s a good deal considering the original price, but the sauce is watery and too acidy–gives me a stomach ache when I eat it.

Plus, everyone should be boycotting them over the recent statements made, anyway. Pretty easy considering their products are mediocre at best.

  11. tmo

    Boycotting here too!!!

  12. Amber

    More for me !

  13. Jesse

I’ll be voting with my wallet as well- I can’t abide supporting discrimination.

  14. Cara

I buy Barilla pasta exclusively…except not anymore. I can’t support a company whose head first put down gay families and then in his attempts to fix what he said went on to say “I just want to emphasize women’s central role in the family.” As my husband said, “by which he means, in the kitchen. So basically he has now offended LGBT people and families and women. Straight men, keep buying our products!”

    • Amber

I’m a woman and that doesn’t offend me but I can see how it would offend others. I just wouldn’t lump all women into the offended category.

      • Cara

I’m not offended as a woman either — but I am as an ally of LGBT people.

  15. Sarah

It’s interesting to me that some people choose to support traditional marriage and are called “bigots”. However, those on the other side of the issue (who are doing the name-calling) obviously have their beliefs too. So, one group is allowed to believe what they want to, but the other group is showing bigotry?

    • Cara

One groups beliefs involve oppressing an entire group of people. The others don’t. Pretty simple.

      • Sarah

I didn’t say anything about oppressing others. I know many people who do not “oppress” others — they just don’t believe the same way. There are extremes on both sides of the issue.

        • Cara

But if you are against gay marriage, as the Barilla CEO is, then you believe that certain people should not have the same rights as others. That is a form of oppression, particularly in our country where people actually vote on the issue.
But the bottom line is, yes, about one is “allowed” to have whatever opinion they want — and they may face consequences for sharing that opinion publicly.

          • Edie

He is not against gay marriage, he is against gay couples adopting.

          • Ll

He said in his interview he was not against gay marriage.

            He was against gay adoption.

You also know being gay in Italy is illiage? Why don’t you boycott Italy? Not a man who has his own personal opinions.

            • Cara

For what it’s worth, I think it’s worse to be against gay couples adopting. Kids need families and to deny them that in the interest of “traditional family values” is an absolutely heinous way to treat those kids.

          • Ger

Basically what you are saying is, if you have traditional family values, to keep quiet or you may face consequences? I have the “right” to have my set of values. You do not have the “right” to silence me.

            • Cara

Nope, I don’t have the right to silence anyone. I have the right to share my own opinion and not buy Barilla pasta sauce. It’s kind of hilarious that people are getting so upset that some of us won’t be buying this product anymore like it’s a personal affront on you. It has nothing to do with you. I’m not silencing anyone.
I’m simply saying I won’t be buying those products anymore. Gasp!

            • Cara

And I’m definitely not saying to keep quiet — I’m simply saying that if you say something that you know may offend people, don’t act all surprised when it does.

            • Ger

So has that boycott going against Alec Baldwin and Capital One? You must have SO mad to hear his anti-gay, homophopic twitter tirade!!

            • Ger

Your choice to not buy Barilla pasta doesn’t bother me in the least. Gasp

            • Annie

Hey there Ger Alex Baldwin didn’t have a “homophobic Twitter rant”. He called out one guy for being a jerk.

And do your “traditional family values” allow me as a woman to work outside the home, and be married to my husband who is outside my race?

            • Ger

LOL!! Care to repeat what Alec said?

I allow anyone to work anywhere they please, male or female. LOL
Enjoy your marriage instead of daring people to take issue with it. Your issue is with those that have an issue with your marriage, not me and my traditional family values.

            • Ger

Oh and by the way, Alec apologized to GLAAD.

  16. savewithterri

Who are we to judge anyone. God say’s to love everyone and he will be the judge. i try to follow that rule.

  17. Sara

I wouldn’t buy their products if they paid me.

  18. Annie

Boycotting them. Not interested in helping to promote and support hate. It’s funny, when Oreo came out in support of guys and lessons conservatives were boycotting like crazy. Now suddenly, we are “hateful” for boycotting……

    • Ger

Funny, I don’t know one conservative that boycotted, nor can I find any links to any conservative groups that were boycotting.

      • Annie

Well I don’t believe for one second you can’t find anything online. Google search “Oreo boycott” and see what comes up.

        • Ger

That’s what I searched, and no links to conservative groups that boycotted. Once again, I don’t know one conservative that boycotted. I like the Double Stuff personally!

  19. Heidi

I don’t think anyone is mad at others for boycotting, at least I’m not. Boycott all you want. I just get upset that having an opposing opinion from the cultural majority is suddenly “oppressing” and “bigotry.” I don’t personally vote for gay marriage. I love my friends who are gay and some are in a committed relationship. I don’t feel that the CEO did anything morally wrong, he just has a different moral system than you; and, he is definitely entitled to his opinion/beliefs. It probably wasn’t the smartest PR move, but obviously he is going in a direction that markets to a home including a man and a woman. That is his prerogative. He can be against gay adoption for whatever reason. He isn’t a bigot, he isn’t homophobic, he isn’t oppressive. He has a belief structure and standard that is DIFFERENT than the mass majority of population. Go ahead and boycott, but don’t advocate for a society where only one belief system is valued.

PS. Someone said in a local central coast cali coupon group that VONS has a sale next week for .77 each! And I heard there was a catalina for $2 when you buy 3 this week, paired with Just for Me 10% pasta sauce prices and the coupons…make them free wyb 3, using 3 1/1 coupons from today’s paper.

    • Jodi

Hate to argue but try saying “i don’t personally vote for interracial marriage” and see how that sounds.

      • Annie

I’m in an interracial marriage, and believe me, plenty of people are against my marriage. Lucky for me, they don’t have the right to vote on it. Otherwise, with the bigots like those posting here, I’m sure I would lose.

        • Selah

Gay marriage is a separate issue though, not sure how you can compare the two?

          • Cara

As someone also in an interracial marriage I will explain how we can compare the two — because in my parents’ lifetime, my marriage would have been illegal. People talked about family values then and how the country would be ruined if interracial marriage were made legal.
It is a civil rights issue just as making interracial marriage legal was.

            • Jodi

That’s exactly my point!!! I remember Phil Donahue when I was little having a show talking about interracial marriages and people made the same arguments that they would ruin “traditional” marriages, scar the kids, blah blah blah. Well we all seemed to turn out just fine!

        • Ger

If you have to stoop that low to call people bigots, you have already lost your battle. The only person on this post that has an issue with your marriage is you.

      • Kelly

Interracial marriage and same sex marriage are a world of difference away. Here is why: there is no difference between black man and white man other than skin color. HOWEVER, there IS a fundamental difference between male and female. They are not interchangeable.

Martin Luther King’s daughter herself said ‘My father didnt take a bullet for same sex marriage’. Also, many black people will tell you ‘Dont confuse my skin with your sin.’

  20. Jodi

Boy this coupon really tested my ethics & values! My local store triples coupons making the sauce free at my store! But as a lesbian, married to my partner with three adorable little kids, i just can not do it. Trust me I struggled all day with this decision. I hate passing up freebies, it’s against by core being!!! Please, please come out with a good strong apology so I can use it!

    • makaylaisabel

Lol. I apologize on their behalf 😀 Now go on and get your kiddos some sauce. Goes great with pizza making or cheesesticks 😀 Take the tags off so you don’t get reminded! 😉

      • Jodi

Hah, I found an apology from the CEO so between that and yours, I’m good to go!!!

    • makaylaisabel

On a side note, I would take a picture with my kids and the sauce and meal and post it on their facebook page 😉 Be the better person! Ha!

  21. Mae

When you allow someone or something offend you, that person or thing now has control over the decision you make, we walk around with offence and it blinds our perseption of things, your reality is your perception, if you are allowing your perceptions about a certain situation or subject that comes off as an offence that’s the thing that has power and control over you. Barilla is not making anything if you are getting it for free and they are not the ones who are sacrificing a good deal for their famlies, they just made a comment, that’s affecting YOUR decision, isn’t it exhausting for something so small as an offence to change what you eat and how you shop. Offences are heavy to carry and a lot of work, do you really want to put yourself through that over a comment?

    • Lisa

I love it when this stuff happens, it guides me as a consumer. It’s not about letting someone or ones anger control you. It’s about being the change you want to see in the world. I find standing up for my own beliefs is never exhausting, it’s invigorating. Be the change you want to see in this world, it’s easy everyday by voting with your wallet.

  22. Kate

Yes, because I am a human being. It is absolutely worth carrying this heavy load you speak of so that everyone can enjoy the same rights and privileges I do.

  23. Cb

    Well said Mae.

  24. Jorge

The CEO of Barilla had a right to his opinion. However, his decision to voice that opinion was unfortunate. Now he has apologized.

Why can’t he stand by his words? If this is a “moral” issue why did he apologize? Simple: he apologized because he is the leader of a major company and he felt the backlash. As soon as they see their bottom line affected, they don’t care about the “morality” anymore do they?

So what message does that send? Well I see that he sacrificed his “morality” or “principles” for financial gain. You can be on either side of this issue and see that as completely hypocritical…and greedy.

But forget what he said and let’s ad lib. What if he would have said I don’t agree with blacks, Christians, obese people, Mexicans, or any other group adopting or coming out in ads? Are y’all seriously telling me people from those groups would not or should not have the right to be upset?

Discrimination is discrimination. Prejudice is prejudice. Hate is hate.

I, for one, will NEVER buy Barilla products again. THAT is just as much my right as what those in this forum are saying was his right to his opinion.

    • Ger

He apologized because he probably felt that was the right thing to do, if he offended anyone, kind of like Alec Baldwin apologizing to GLAAD. Alec Baldwin didn’t stand by his words, what does that make him? Will you be boycotting him and everything that’s associated with him? How about Capital One?

Yes, a company looks at their bottom line as they should. Doesn’t make them greedy or hypocritical because they apologized. They are a business providing products, we buy it, they make money. Supply and demand.

The message that it sends is, he apologized. Either accept it, get your coupon, and buy your pasta sauce, or don’t.

      • Jorge

Alec Baldwin is not the CEO of Capital One. The person who made these comments IS the CEO of Barilla. Baldwin is not “owned” by Capital One. He also has a right to his opinion and with it may come consequences. The CEO of Barilla may very well part owner/shareholder/founder of the company. There is a difference,

        • Ger

So now it’s only if the person is a CEO, you boycott? LOL!!

          • Jorge

Oh. So you are in favor of boycotting brands and companies. LOL!!

            • Ger

Not understanding your comment..isn’t it you that has the problem with the CEO?

            • Ger

And isn’t it you that said hate is hate?

      • Cara

You are really big on Alec Baldwin and Capital One. Okay, can’t stand the guy. Don’t watch his shows or movies. And have never had a Capital One card.

        • Ger

          Well good for you!

  25. Mae

I hate and I don’t agree with are two different things, I’m Mexican, if he said he doesn’t want Mexicans in his ads because of their culture, that would not offend me and I would still buy or get his products for free, I could understand if he said I hate…but he didn’t, couples don’t agree all the time, that doesn’t mean I’m going to stomp my feet and leave the relationship, no not at all, if we all knew what different CEOs thought about all of us and took it to heart…none of us would have any food to feed our families our pantries would be empty! Its the little fox wholes that causes division and offence and we have to guard thoughs, HIP2SAVE YOU ROCK thank you for all you do, your hard work, please don’t takes deals off because some people might not agree with, we live in a rough time and you help me personally save money, we are supposed to be United helping each of save money, so please don’t take deals off your site for fear of offences, Thank You Hip2save!

    • hillcountrygal

WELL SAID! Totally agree. 🙂 @Mae

    • Jorge

I am Mexican, as well. With all due respect, just because you say you would not be offended if his comments were directed to Mexicans-it clearly does not mean NO Mexican person or even others would not be offended.

Plus, it’s easy to say that when you are not part of the group he was directing his comments to. If we support this man saying what he said, let’s encourage ALL CEO’s to be truthful and open with their “opinions” and “beliefs.” I am sure at some point everyone would be offended by someone.

This is the thing, however. If you have nothing nice to say, don’t say nothing at all. More importantly, treat others as YOU would like to be treated. These are biblical based values that ANYONE, religious or not, can and should live by.

      • Ger

Jorge, your hypocrisy is too much.

        • Jorge

Oh, thanks for aporoaching this from all angles and calling me hypocrital on a response I gave someone else.

          • Ger

It is my opinion, based on your comments. You say one thing and you do another.

            • Jorge

and please tell me what that would be. Go ahead, I am dying for you to tell me what I say and what I do.

            • Ger

              Read your comments.

          • Jorge

Well, since you won’t answer my question I’ll end with this. I did go back and read my comments and everyone else’s including yours.

I noticed you responded to my initial comment and to many others. You even responded to a comment I made to someone else in response to MINE. My responses have basically all been in response to your comments to me.

I say all that to say sorry. Sorry, but I don’t argue just to argue. So with that I wish you the best.

AND thank you Collin for putting up with me and more importantly for your dedication to this blog which makes a real difference in my family’s lives. My best to you.

            • Ger

And that’s your opinion, and what we have is a difference of opinions.
I wish you the best too.

  26. guest

God’s way is the only way. Sad to know that some you are associating it with discrimination, bigotry and oppression.

I thought God’s way was to love everyone and not judge- that judging was up to God?

        Agreed, em.

I am not judging and neither is the Barilla president. He simply stated what he wants to promote and what he doesn’t support. God does want us to love but that doesn’t mean he wants us to support, condone, and promote actions that are against his teachings.

Actually God’s word says not to be a hypocrite and judge someone for something that you, yourself are doing. It does not say not to judge those that are living in direct opposition to His instructions for how we are to live. In fact, there are many passages in the bible where we are instructed to judge others.

I support Barilla and will not boycott and will definitely take advantage of the good deals with the coupons. There are many people, companies and actors that I strongly disagree with their stances on certain political or moral issues, but if I like the movie their in or I really like a product, I’m not going to stop purchasing it. All the “boycotting” is not going to cause the companies to go out of business anyway. They will probably make up for a lot of their lost customers with new customers who will start buying their products because they agree with their traditional family values.

I will never buy a Barilla product again, even for 2 cents!
