If you’ve been reading my weekly High and Low posts for the last few months, you may think I’m a bit of a worrywart when it comes to my kids. As I mentioned here, my hubby and I even did a little spying at my oldest son’s new school during recess just to be sure he was making friends. I am slowly but surely acknowledging that my kiddos are growing up (a little too quickly!) and learning to deal with all the changes that come along with transitioning from toddler to tween to teen. As an example, two cute 12-year old girls rang my doorbell yesterday evening – and not because they were selling Girl Scout Cookies. Nope, they were looking for my oldest son, Nick. Yikes – I am not sure that I am ready for this all this yet. I am actually starting to miss poopy diapers and toddler temper tantrums. πŸ˜‰

My high for this week is the fact that Fall Weather is upon us here in Boise – the nights are cool and the air is crisp. All that Fall Weather gets me in the Baking mood. This week alone, I have whipped up quite a few baked goods including gluten-free chocolate chip banana muffins – recipe coming soon! πŸ™‚

[h2s_box]Every Wednesday, I share my high(s) and low(s) for the past week and I encourage you to do the same in the comment section below. My high(s) will simply be the best or most exciting thing that happened to me over the last week or so and my low(s) will be something not so great that took place. [/h2s_box]

I bet you’re going to turn into one of those embarrassing moms- love it!!! πŸ™‚

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

LOL!! Yep – I am basically turning into my mom – don’t you love how that works? πŸ˜‰

      • VavaVoom

Lol I used to yell at my mom and say I would never be like her but I have become very similar to her now! It does happen lol πŸ™‚ Oh, and also, Hi! I’m a new Hip2Save follower πŸ™‚ I have been watching your Youtube videos for a long time and just recently added your app on my iPhone. Keep up the great work!

Hey! Being a worrywart is what being a mama is all about! (Although, I’m a bit ready to miss poopy diapers and toddler tantrums instead of living it)

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Low’s: Homework for my kids and all the frustrations! High: Great weather and cool temps!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I hear ya on the homework!

Oh my gosh I am in the same frame of mind myself only I have two daughters one 17 and one 18 and they are young women now. If only I could turn back time I would gladly stay up with them all night while they teethe or are scared or wet even their bed. I saw something today that said God is writing the next chapter of your life and I thought thats me all right.

  5. rebecca

careful, Mom, if any neighborhood or school friends have parents that see your blog, your sweet son might be mortified! πŸ˜‰
i fear the phase will come too soon when my own 5th-grade son is too cool to be seen with mom.

  6. Belinda

Well I am glad you did not let the target episode get you down:) Please keep on doing what you do. And TWO…I LOVE the videos..they are awesome..:)

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Thanks, Belinda! πŸ™‚

  7. Beth

I’m in the same place as well. My daughters are 14 and 11 and wanting to go to high school football games etc. I’d love for them to stay young a little while longer! God is writing the next chapter of all of our lives as well!

  8. Nichole

What a tease I clicked on this hoping for the recipe πŸ˜€

My low for the week is my husband loosing his job. On the flip side my high is that my husband is now home with our two children ages 4 & 11 months and I get to see him on nights and weekends (we use to work oppisite schedules). His home business is also starting to take off.

    • amber

  10. Crystal

My kids are 4.5 and nearly 2 and already I think they are growing up way too fast. I can’t imagine them as teenagers :). I’m a big time worrywart when it comes to my kids as well. I think most moms are. My high for the week was scoring some great deals at the store. My low is lack of sleep these past couple of days.

  11. nelly

you can still have more babies πŸ˜‰

    • Jess

      Love It Nelly ! =)

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

LOL! You both are very funny! πŸ˜‰

  12. Kb

My low this week is that my due date is drawing near and I still haven’t had my daughter. My high is that even though I can’t wait to not be pregnant anymore and meet my daughter, it’s giving me extra one on one time with my poopy diapered, tantrum throwing son πŸ™‚

And thank you for all that you do! You are the best!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Congrats on your soon to be newest addition! πŸ™‚

  13. Loralouise

I was so sad the first day of school for both my boys. I went to check on both of them during lunch to make sure they were ok. My oldest is a sophomore and can leave campus for lunch😞. I parked half a block away and watched as he and a friend walked (not allowed to ride with newly licensed friends…yet) to get lunch nearby. I left there and headed back to the elementary school to watch the fifth grader. He was fine too! Playing football as usual. I love my boys and will watch from a distance ALWAYS! They’ll always be my babies.

  14. Leslie

I have a 12 year old daughter, know what your going through. 😳

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      πŸ˜‰

  15. Lorissa

You’ll be just fine Collin. I learn to give some space but always being able to reign her in if needed πŸ™‚ I learned to pick my battles and survived. She’s now in her early 20’s and we are the best of friends.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Awe… that’s great to hear!

  16. Lorna

My high- took a baking class I brought from Groupon and learned how to make cupcakes & frosting from scratch. My low- missing out on another class due to spending alot on shopping

  17. Mark

The song “Sunrise Sunset” from “Fiddler On The Roof”, isn’t just another song, but a true fact of life. We want to hold on to our kids for as long as possible, just like our parents tried to hold onto us.

I tried to hold onto my kids, now they have kids of their own.

  18. Sarah

My high for today was that we are FINALLY moving forward with the addition to our house that we have been planning for several months. We should actually be breaking ground on it in the next week or so (EEEKKKKK!!!!) My low for the day was the realization that my house is going to be turned upside down for this construction (I have a 4 year old, 2 year old, and a 4.5 month old so this will also possibly disrupt sleep times) and I woke up dizzy and nauseous from the cold I have been fighting all week. Thankfully my hubby has been helping me out with the kids today since I don’t feel good πŸ™‚

    • Ashley

We’re going to be in the same exact situation when we put an addition on our house next summer- yikes! I’ll have a 4 year old, 2 year old and a newborn. Good luck! Hopefully it all goes much smoother than you think!

  19. Sandy 'Elzinga' Harper

I totally understand how fast kids grow up, I now have a 15 yr old an 13 yr old, I feel I am too young to have teenagers, I have 9 kids altogether from 15 down to 5 months, so I am getting everything from changing poopy pants, to 2 yr old tantrums to know it all 8 yr olds, to OMG my 15 yr old daughter enough said on that. LOL My high is getting some really good deals today since I haven’t been couponing in a few months ever since I started my new job. My low this week is probably that my 15 yr old decided to withdraw from high school to go to an online high school, I feel that she is not responsible or mature enough to handle this, but sometimes you have to let them make their own decisions.

  20. Krista

High, getting to visit my friend and play with rescue horses. Low, federal furloughs…second time this year for us. We were told 20+ days, which is worrisome but we can take advantage of things we never have before (food stamps, energy assistance, unemployment and ?). So, hopefully everything will be ok, we’re still a little behind from this summer’s furlough.

  21. mc

Sorry to say…but the girls will be more aggressive at this age. I went through this with my son. He wasn’t all that interested at that age. I am a teacher of 5th graders, age 10, and I see it all the time. I am in a really quiet, GREAT, school district. REALLY good kids. Keep tabs on the girls…and then the boys at age 15 and then after that…all the time. Now, he is 16 and I don’t take my eyes off of him!

  22. Crystal

My high would be that this week is the first week I’ve been able to pay all the bills and have left over for the things we need since my husband started his job six months ago. Lol talk about a long sentence. I would say my low would be having to go to school twice to sign paperwork for two of my children to get more specialized instruction but that not to bad cause it means their school is on top of things. My oldest has ADHD and my youngest I not sure what is the problem maybe ADHD too but have to test for it.

  23. Heather Baltimore

My low for the week is that I just found out that my beloved father in-law’s cancer has returned. Unfortunately chemo/radiation has little effect on the kind of cancer he has. He seems to be on the losing end of this battle.
My high for the week is that we’re finally to October which means I can finally start decorating for Halloween (my second favorite holiday after Christmas). My husband and I just purchased our first home in June so now I have a home to decorate! Super exciting πŸ™‚

    • Meghan

Heather, Just wanted to say that your father-in-law and your family will be in my prayers tonight. <3

      • Amy

That’s very sweet Meghan! I’m sorry about your father-in-law Heather!

  24. Maggie

My high for the week, I got my hubby a FREE watch at Target today! Thanks so much for the post!

  25. JA

Couple of highs for me this week. My son’s middle school won a radio contest and will receive a super-cool anti-bullying assembly with a concert and radio DJ’s and everything! My beloved Pittsburgh Pirates won their first playoff game in FOREVER and the weather here has been warm and summer like. Plus hockey season is underway!

    No lows to report! πŸ™‚

And, seriously, watch out for the girls. Trouble they are, at that age. I think my oldest is about the same age as your oldest, Collin, and I sympathize with you.

  26. Rebecca S

It is so good that you can find a high when there is so much low out there. I look forward to learning your recipe, looks yummy!

My high is finding the most perfect house for us.
The low is being unsure if buying a house is really the right thing to do right now. I’m a big worrier when it comes to making a decision.

  27. Meghan

My high is definitely gettinfg a job offer to be a preschool teacher after the last five years of looking for a job, any job!
My low is my level 2 background check for the job is put on hold due to the government shutdown.

  28. Shanna

High today, watching the kids at my community center take ballet. It’s so expensive and I was able to gain a partnership with a ballet company to make it super affordable! We have 30 kids that participate over the course of 3 days! Low today, nothing! Today was a really great day!

  29. Elizabeth

I would have to say my high would be my husband winning a Samsung Tablet at his company meeting. Such a life changer. We have been trying to save enough money to buy a tablet for our 5 year old who is non-verbal. My husband and I do not believe in living off the system ie Government. We have worked hard for everything we have. My low would be that our bathtub broke in our only bathroom and water went all over the floor. To end on a positive note I’d like to say how amazing this website blog is and how much we “your followers” appreciate all that you do.
    Thank you

    • ali

Keep doing what you are doing…you are setting an amazing example of perseverance for your son. Good luck with everything–you sound like an incredible woman! πŸ™‚

  30. Martha

Yay! Please post the recipe to those delish looking gluten free muffins! I think my gallbladder is trying to make a break for it so I am trying to take it easy until I can confirm this week and eat gluten free, no meat, etc. I bet those would make “Gallie” happy! Thanks Collin! M

    I’m so hungry!!

  31. mari

Low for the week, my 15 yr old who plays competitive soccer might need knee surgery. High for the week my 5 yr old is doing better on his reading.

  32. Jessica

Wow, I really can’t think of a low for this week, unless you want to call rude customers a low. We have had an awesome week. Hubby won some cash on a lotto ticket, we helped a friend in need, my teen brought his grades up, and we were giving 6 free Marshall U football tickets.

  33. Wendy

Did any of you KNOW that juice boxes are ENTIRELY to “”1st grader-ish” for a 3rd grade boy?!?!?!?! I had quite some nerve to put one in my son’s lunch box yesterday…luckily he managed to hide it, whew! Disaster averted. Growing up too fast is SO accurate.

    • JA

LOL…what did he want instead? My kids would rather skip lunch than be caught with a lunch box. And coats? Forget it! Thank goodness I found some great deals at Marshall’s on some water proof Underarmor hoodies. Just repeat after me, “Pick your battles. Pick your battles. Pick your battles.” Aren’t kids great? πŸ˜‰

  34. Madason

My eleven year old daughter has a boyfriend and they have a second date already it’s to a dance they have even slow danced and kissed. I was sitting in the parking lot the whole time! I know how you feel

    • Anonymous

Wow! That is young be very careful. They want to experience so much at this age but we have to still guide and direct. Remember our kids can’t do anything unless we allow them.

    • JA

Yikes. Makes me glad we don’t have dances at our school anymore. Kids (girls) stopped going when they started enforcing the dress code. Oh darn. πŸ™‚

  35. Jen

My low this week was my maternity leave ending and having to go back to work πŸ™ (luckily just part time for now) my high is that my baby has been sleeping around 6 hours straight the last few nights!! Woohooo! talk about good timing!

  36. tracy

i know it might change when I have kids but does anyone else have any input on family stories like these. not to be mean to you Collin but I remember reading on other posts you stated about your daughters bed wetting. and now you are talking about your son and his girl “friends”. I am only 23 right now and do not have kids of my own yet but even if little things like what you say about them in my opinion is not the best thing to do. if they know I do not like it when parents talk about somewhat personal issues with friends/family members. I remember when I was a kid. you know tween teen age that my mom used to say every little thing to a close family friend. and she would say things that were not even true. and I would get very sad and upset about it. and that family friend would also say things about her kid. about how one is doing drugs and the other was touched. horrific things not nearly as bad as mine. but it goes from talking about wetting the bed to those horrible things. that is stuff that your kids do not want you to talk about to people. you are talking nowhere near those topics but just wondering other ppl’s opinions on it. like I said it might change when im a parent but I know that is not an extra thing I would want my kids worrying about.me talking about them behind their back
