I want to browse but I HATE websites where you have to register just to look around. I prefer to register when I know I want to buy something…less spam that way!

    • glo

Amen Angie as soon as it said put in a valid email address I hit the close tab.

      • Elizabeth

I wish you ladies would give it another shot! I did the same thing several months ago, I thought “no thanks!!” but last week I had a promo for ThreadUp and decided to try it out – WOW!!! I was able to buy my daughter ,$100 worth of infant clothing for $4 shipped! (I had $15 off and free shipping) even without the code these clothing prices are amazing! And I referred my sister by email, so she gets $10 to spend and I do too!!! It’s easier than going to local consignments AND the prices are much better!
So, check it out! I have no doubt you WILL LOVE Threadup!!!

        • angie

And if you use code SHOP35 you get an extra 35% off AND free shipping on your first order!!! Realy awesome to get your holiday dresses or outfits!!

Sorry, you just have to make sure you have one non clearance item in your cart I guess, because it worked when I did that.

Is it just me or does anyone else worry about bed bugs when used clothes shopping??

    • axhilli

These clothes come from ThredUp not directly from the previous owner so I’m assuming ThredUp cares for them before sending them back out to others.

    • Mia

I just wash everything before my kids wear it. I buy tons at once upon a child, a consignment shop, and have been doing so for 10 years. Never have I had issues. Just think about clothes that you buy “new” at the store. It’s been tried on plus if might have been returned?

    • Danielle

It worries me all the time. I make sure to at least dry everything I buy right away (even from department stores). From what I read online just washing doesn’t kill eggs, so it’s important to dry the clothing too. I worked retail awhile and we never saw any in the store, but so many things were always returned so you never really know.

    • Joy

I buy from thrift stores all the time and have never had a problem in the last 8 years. But as a precaution, I immediately seal the bag up before I get in my car. Then, as soon as I get home, I pop the clothing into the deep freezer in a new bag for at least a week. Afterwards, I wash and dry in hottest setting the fabric allows. Obviously, if it’s a delicate item or one with embellishments I don’t wash and dry in hot water. I just take a risk and hope the deep freeze killed any bugs. Not sure if it works or not. But bugs don’t like extreme temps and I once read or heard this technique somewhere. I also try to stay away from used bedding/linens and knits like wool sweaters because they are harder to wash.

      • axhilli

I understand being cautious from a thrift store purchase and doing the deep freeze technique for those purchases but I hope if ordering goods online they should be inspected and cared for before they reach my home I’d be super upset because you can infest your home while washing the garments if they are in the package you receive.

    • Caitlin

If you’re worried about bed bugs from secondhand clothes, you must not ever go anywhere. You can pick them up at hotels, movie theaters, etc.!

      • annette

thredup DOES NOT WASH these items before shipping….nor do they even iron them, lol. I asked about this recently after fighting with them over payouts for one of my bags.

        • Nicky

I was wondering how that went? I recently sent in a bag and there was a pair of brand new shoes Cushe in the bag and they did not give me any credit for them! They were never worn either! Did you get a positive response?

  4. cheapcheap goes the mommy

Since I found Collin’s site I don’t shop thrift or used as often (why pay retail used price for something can get brand new with coupons cheaper?) But with used clothes I often would warm wash on a delicate cycle the clothes also and a steam iron if needed. I do like this site though they package everything so boutiqueish and if they ever find a flaw unlisted before shipment they give to you for free. I like this site to buy Amy Byer and Bonnie Jean dresses for my girls.

I am ordering a bag to do my first ThredUP clean out. I am sending every item I didn’t sell at a recent consignment sale. I hope I get some $$$ to order my son some new to us clothes! I’d say at least 50% of his clothes are secondhand, and the rest I get on clearance or from deals on this wonderful site! 🙂

  13. sara

I sent a 2 full bags of clothes back to thred up and never received a check or credit for any of my items. Some were in gently used condition, but nothing was stained or ruined.

    • sara

Whoops….it took months to post to my account but they did send me a clothing credit.

Free medium handmade pizza at Domino’s with $10 purchase. Expires tonight.

  15. Lucy

I’ve ordered two items from them and had positive experiences. I agree that when buying new at retail stores the items have already been tried on and possibly even returned. Even in storage prior to sale, who knows what the items may have picked up 😏

  16. Heather H

Thanks for the code, I have ordered once from them before, the clothes were adorable so I am all for trying them again!

  17. Sherry

Very good deals, you get a $10 credit for signing up under someone! Would love to share if someone uses my link! Free shipping is a good bonus! I’ve purchased some great kids clothing, didn’t even look used at all!

If I’m a new user, will I be able to use the shipsale10 code for free shipping, in addition to my $10 new user credit?

    • mer

I think so. Put some things in your cart and try to add the promo code and see what happens!

  19. Brianna

I had intentions on putting in a $20 order for the free shipping, but I bought my daughter a complete summer wardrobe for next year for $80. The prices were irresistible! This is my 3rd order with them and I can only say good things about their pickiness and clothes. I wish their site was a bit more organized since I hate going through pages or clothes when I am looking for something particular. Their clothes are cheaper than any childrens consignment near me and even my local Goodwill. I have never sent a bag in, but I am considering it rather than eBaying my clothes.

    • MommySpendsLess

      Brianna –

Before you send in a bag, I would read their policies and do some checking into their current bag payouts. I have sent in two bags. I was pretty happy the first time – they took pretty much what I expected them to and I was content with the payout amount for each item. They adjusted their buying model a bit before I sent in my second bag and I didn’t really feel it was worth it. I think you may still be able to get a decent payout for boutique and premium brands but they’re literally paying pennies now for Children’s Place, Old Navy, Target (Cherokee and Osh Kosh) and other stores around that price point. I think I read that they recently stopped accepting anything at all that retails under a certain amount ($15 I think). I understand the changes from their perspective but I think rather than carefully sort through my daughter’s clothing, I’m just going to sell it as a lot on Craigslist (which is what I was doing before with anything I didn’t think ThredUp would accept)

  20. Carol

Thanks Collin! I didn’t know I had a $10 credit sitting in my account already. So I got 3 tops for $10 and free shipping! I agree with Brianna. I wish they would let you search for like short sleeve, long sleeve, or silk, etc. It took me FOREVER to find 3 tops because I had to scroll through like 1,000 pictures!

  21. Claire

I just got an email that the free shipping is extended until the end of the day today. I’d love someone to use my link. Thanks!
