Calling all AT&T customers (or those looking to make the switch)! If you’re in the market for a new cell phone or know of someone who is, check out this email I received from reader Kelli –

[h2s_box]Not sure if you know of this or not, but AT&T currently has many smart phones for 50% off, online only. I just purchased an iPhone 5s for $99.99 and once I receive my new phone, I will take my old iPhone 4 to the AT&T store and they will buy it for $118 in store credit, or can be used on the bill.  This makes my new phone better than free. The website does not specify how long this sale is lasting. If anyone needs a new smartphone and they have AT&T, now is the time to buy! 🙂 [/h2s_box]

With that being said, for a limited time, head on over here to browse through the various smartphones on sale 50% off. Even sweeter, all online purchases ship FREE! Keep in mind that most phones require a 2-yr (or no commitment) contract with qualifying voice/data plans and an activation fee applies.

(Thanks, Kelli!)

Awesome! I use T-Mobile for the pay-as-you-go plan. The rep told me I could use an AT&T phone if I paid about $25 to “unlock” it. DH uses AT&T so he could upgrade and give me his. Anyone have experience with this type of thing?

    • JC

You have to enter a 2 year contract and believe it’s about $350 to end the contract so you’d be paying around $450 but that’s still cheaper than buying from T Mobile.

    • Ritz

If your contract is over you can simply call AT&T and they will unlock your phone. Tell them your contract is over and you upgraded and now need to unlock previous phone. No charges for this. Did this last time with two phones

What is the cheapest data, voice and text plan people are finding? I need 3 lines and at least 2GB of data shared between them. I can’t seem to find one lower than $70 a month – and paying $70 times 3 lines a month would kill me!

    • Cat

Virgin Mobile may be a good fit if you don’t need a ton of voice minutes. It would be $35 per device for 300 minutes and unlimited data and text. There are some drawbacks, but it’s a no-contract plan so you can leave it at any time.

    • Cat

Actually, look into Ting while you’re at it. Another no-contract plan on the Sprint network, and you just pay for what is used at the end of the month. Unlike Virgin Mobile, you can roam to other networks when not near a Sprint tower. I’ve been doing a ton of research to just get my one phone. Was not sure if it would be a good deal with multiple devices, but looking back on it, it may be your best bet. You can also get nice devices on Ebay (look for clean ESN). I’m planning on getting a Samsung Galaxy S3, which if I hate Ting can be used on Virgin Mobile and some other wireless networks.

    • Betsy

      Republic Wireless is cheapest.

    • JGC

I am on a T-Mobile prepaid plan that gives 100mins for calls, unlimited text and 5GB data plan (at 4G; then unlimited at 2G/3G thereafter) for only $30/month. The plan is only available online (not available over the phone and in stores).

  3. Wendy

Wow! Wish Verizon would do this!

  4. Kristen

I wish the 32 GB was also on sale 🙁 Hmm, will have to really consider the 16 GB since it’s so much cheaper!!

    • Tarin

I’m having the same issue 🙁

This is a great deal…I was planning to go to Wal-Mart on Black Friday to get the iphone 5s for 189.99 and get the $75 gift card, but this is a much better deal, and I don’t have to battle the crowds!

That’s so sad, makes me want to switch…

Thank you so very much for posting this! My parents wanted to upgrade both their phones to iphones and we were just looking into buying them this past weekend and luckily procrastinating paid off for once and we will be saving 50% off. Does anyone know until when this deal is?
    Your amazing! thank you

  7. Connie

Current AT&T customers, If you aren’t eligible for an upgrade, this pricing does not usually apply.

    • Connie

Yeah, it doesn’t. ;( My 2 yr contract isn’t up until August and the pricing on the 4s was $250. Bummer…

      • Sara

My husband dropped his phone in the pool about a year into our contract and the rep on the phone offered him a new phone with new contract pricing. It’s always worth a shot.

    • sne3103

Thanks for posting this… I was just about to ask that!

  8. Andi

This link isnt working for me – just FYI, I pretty sure I’m not eligible anyways.

  11. tracey

This is awesome! Just need a deal now on a new iphone 5s case lol!

    • Mona

Check out Colin’s previous post about the waterproof otter cases. They aren’t $25 anymore but I believe they still are a good price at about $55 now. Regularly $100. And actually $55 is about how much I paid for my defender (not waterproof).

    • Rebecca

The cases she posted about cover the finger print detector.. Just FYI.

  12. sue

ebates giving $100 cash back if you switch to at&t too…

    • stephanie

    • ND

      yes! just pay restocking fee!

      • ND

to clarify, i think you get about 30 days to return any phone

  14. t

I sold my iPhone 4s on Ebay for $370.

  15. Emma

Does anyone know what AT&T usually charges to get out of your contract early? Or how to find out online how long you have left on your contract? Hoping to switch to Republic Wireless

  16. Lupita

I want the Samsung S4 and I think that I’ll just go with the Walmart deal. It’ll be $99 and you get a $100 GC so basically free. And the deal goes on for 3 days so no need to battle any crowds.

    • maryb

Hi, what is the phone company for this deal? Thanks

      • Lupita

If memory serves me correctly I think it is AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon.

  17. Lindsay

How did you actually hear you can apply the credit for your phone toward your bill? I’ve called and talked to a few diff stores in my area and they said no it can only be spent in store on phones and accessories. That is Not so great!

  18. Teetee20055

Thanks so much. My Motorola atrix was barely hold on. I upgrade to an iPhone 5s.

  19. maryb

Has anyone here had Republic wireless, if so, how is their service?

  20. Christy R

where can you look for specifics on at&T buy back program

  21. Anna

iPhones are now off sale. Just samsungs. Chatted online with live rep and he said “no time stamp to the sales and they come and go”.

  22. Gwen

VOYAGER MOBILE IS THE BEST! You pay $25 for unlimited talk/text and you’re allowed to have a smartphone without paying for a data plan. So as long as you can get wifi, you have data too!
