Starbucks: Buy 1 Refill Tumbler for $65 on 11/29 = Free Handcrafted Espresso Beverage Everyday in Jan. 2014

Calling all you fellow Starbucks fanatics! This Friday, November 29th only, purchase a Starbucks Stainless Steel Espresso Refill Tumbler 16 oz. for $65 (reg. $75!) at your local Starbucks Store or online here (not available yet!). Yes, I know this sounds pricey for a tumbler…

However, you can then bring the tumbler into a participating Starbucks store in January 2014 and you will receive 1 FREE handcrafted espresso beverage everyday throughout the month of January ($140 value!) . Now I know this deal does not make sense for everyone (definitely does not make sense for me! 😉 ) but for those of you who hit up Starbucks regularly, this may be worth it. Basically if you go to Starbucks 30 times during the month (almost every single day), you are essentially paying $2.17 per grande espresso beverage and are scoring a FREE tumbler – which is a great deal for normally pricey Starbucks drinks!

And I personally think this would make a wonderful gift for any Starbucks obsessed friend or family member you may know! I am snagging one for my sister-in-law! 🙂

    $65 for a tumbler?!? You can’t be serious…

    • Megan

  2. kate

Is this real? Who spends that on a tumbler? That’s insane!!

  3. Flo Whe

I would buy this for my husband but he only gets the drip so doesn’t really make sense financially.

  4. Carrie

This is the same deal they’ve done in years past only they’ve about doubled the price. I cringed last year, this year I’m balking. No thanks.

    • Carrie

Ahh, I see this year it’s not just brewed coffee it’s any espresso drink. That makes so much more sense. But still, who’s going to admit they’d be getting a deal to prepay $65 for their monthly Starbucks budget? 😉

      • Jessica

I might get it for my husband. He’d LOVE to get an espresso drink everyday. It would be a great treat for my mocha loving guy 😉

    • susan

It’s not the same deal. In years past, the tumbler was only good for drip coffee. This year, it’s for an espresso beverage. I, for one, think it makes a great gift for somebody who goes to Starbucks every day.

  5. Jamie

Is this really Starbuck’s idea of a Black Friday deal? This is comical…No thanks!

  6. Cassandra

Last year they had the drip coffee tumbler for $35, and my hubby made sure to use it alot, but I am actually considering this again because he is the type of guy to add 2 extra shots to his drinks…that’s $1.50 right there!

  7. Jenifer

They didn’t double the price this is for espresso drinks they also do a mug for drip coffee and I believe it costs $30. I can’t wait to get this deal:) I don’t normal go to Starbucks every day but usually 3 times a week so this will be a prefect holiday gift for myself.

  8. adrienne

Unfortunately, I think this is a good deal for my mom’s Christmas present. She buys those “fancy” drinks every day, so this likely beats getting her a gift card. I’ll try to buy it using discounted gift cards I’ve obtained elsewhere.

  9. Rachel

Am I the only one that thinks this is a good deal!? haha I am a latte addict – especially with all these holiday ones this season! At $4.50+ a beverage Its basically like getting a months worth of espresso drinks for half price! Yes please. 🙂

    • teaching3boys

I’m with you! Great deal! Thanks Colin!

  10. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Hi all – If you are not a regular Starbucks junkie, you’re right – this “deal” is not a deal at all. However, if you do hit up Starbucks almost daily (yep – I know many who are guilty of this 😉 ), and like to order the yummy and normally pricey espresso beverages, then this ends up being a nice deal.

The grande beverages usually go for $4+, so if you go daily during the month of January, you are saving about 50% off these drinks and also snagging a FREE tumbler in return.

And again, this deal is totally not for everyone. I am actually snagging one as a gift for my Starbucks obsessed sister-in-law. I personally think this is cute gift idea! 🙂

    • Megan

You are right Collin. I have spent $5 on a drink there. This would be a great deal and a great gift if you go all the time.

    • Jenn

I completely agree Collin, for me this is a great deal!! Plus, I will be able to cover most of the cost of the tumbler by using gift cards I have earned on survey sites you have recommended, making for even better savings. Thanks for yet another hip deal, and have a great Thanksgiving!!

    • Mea

Agree, its a great deal for someone who goes to Starbucks multiple times a week. Tempted to do it and hubby and I can trade off days!

    • Kristin

Hey Collin, do you know if it works for their teas too? My aunt drinks 1-2 Teas a day from there. This would def be the gift to get her. 😊

    • tasha

are you limited to just visiting once per day? I know people who hit up starbucks a couple times per day during the work week. If it’s not limited to just once per day, then it is pretty awesome.

  11. Sarah

I don’t think this is so bad…you’re basically buying a $65 gift card, but get to keep something after the money’s run out. 🙂 This would be a huge savings for loyal Starbucks folks.

  12. mikeB

That is a total joke… their tumblers are reg $15-20 (actually overpriced) so you are basically buying ahead on your coffees…

    • Ketsy

My coffee is normally $5 and change so this is worth it. It would be $150 for the month if I were to go every day ( I don’t but I do know some people that do) This is over 50% savings. I happen to have a $10 from Disney Rewards and $5 form huggies so I can get this for $50. I deserve a month full of coffee for all the butts I clean all month long. lol 😉

PS. If you have someone thats not overly picky like a sister or ( in my case) my husband 😀 you could share your tumbler every other day or let them borrow it a day out of the week 😀

    • Mea

think of the $65 tumbler as a larger sized gift card though … Collin said it won’t make sense for everyone. 😉

  13. mikeB

ty anyway collin… for some it may be ok..

  14. ChrisO

I love the deal, but will pass – can’t “afford” all the extra calories!

    • Shelby

Their tall skinny lattes are only around 100 calories 😀

      • Guest

Don’t forget about sodium and sugar! Lol that’s the catch

  15. tracy

strabucks had to agree on a price to where they arnt losing money everyday on those people who are getting those free coffees everyday to work.

do you think also that someone might go to work and there be 2 separate Starbucks and get one to and from work at 2 different locations.

and also if you think about it a lot of people spend a lot on those k cups and those don’t seem to last long. a lot more expensive than buying regular ground in a bag.

  16. Jennifer

Thanks for posting! I think this is a super gift idea for someone who is a Starbucks lover and also a little difficult to buy for otherwise! Woo hoo!

  17. Janet

Wow, I’d be poopin coffee if I drank that much. I love starbucks, but can’t take it daily. Good deal if you do daily.

  18. sandy

funny i get what they’re trying to do…but it may backfire on Starbucks — really puts in perspective how much those who DO go everyday spend! $65 sounds crazy but really it is like $150!! not for me – i’d rather a pair of shoes every month than a cup of coffee every day 🙂 haha

  19. Steffers

I did this last year for drop coffee and the tumbler $30 I’m thinking $65 is a lil too costly!! Even for this avid Starbucks drinker

    • Susi

I think they still have the coffee cup/mug for 30 for the drip. (It’s different) This year is for espresso based drinks which are a lil bit higher so they did the tumbler with espresso. Or that’s how the barista explained it to me last week.

  20. Lana

I am thinking of the Seinfeld episode where Kramer got the free coffee settlement!

    • Elizabeth M

      LOL!!

    • Jen

You want a latte Jerry?!!?! I can get you a latte!! Haha

  21. irene

Went in to take advantage of a 50% off espresso Q (and accrue dash stars!) and there’s a separate “buy 5 holiday drinks at regular price, get your 6th one free.” It’s a little booklet that they stamp. Happy caffinating, fellow hipsters!

    • Tori

Seems that you have to ask for it and the stickers… they dont just offer it here.

  22. Nikki

I don’t plan on buying one but anybody that has a large family, just pass it around. You could use it a few times a day if you do that.

  23. Kelsey

This is so wonderful!! I spend an average of $275/month there, so $65 is fantastic!

    • Laurie

      HOLY BUCKETS!! LOL!

  24. Tee

Makes sense for those who have coffee more than once a day:) it says once but whose to say you can’t fill up at one Starbucks in the morning and then another Starbucks at lunch? Hmmm, half price and a free tumbler does make a great gift- especially for a commuter or student who loves Starbucks . Happy holidays!

  25. Connie

So this may be a silly question, but how is the free drinks redeemed? Can I earn a star still with each redemption? (yes I am Starbucks greedy lol)

    • Tori

I would assume you would have to buy something to get your star. The star is for each transaction. Dont think they would be able to scan anything on a transaction that equals $0. This is probably why they are doing it. You think you are getting free coffee, they are easily upsale-ing other products.

  26. Sophie

This makes sense for me. I go to Starbucks 5-6 days a week. I don’t spend money on other things like shoes or bags or my house or whatever, so I have no problem spending that money. This will save me about $50. Thanks for posting, otherwise I would have missed it.

  27. tilla ham

this is a great deal, I have a friend that goes every single day for a 5 dollar beverage and sometimes twice a day. I wonder how they keep track of one per day

  28. Sandy

I was wondering how they keep track of one per day too. The deal is much more appealing if it’s possible to stop at more than one Starbucks location per day. Can someone please post the answer when you find it? Thanks! Love this website!

  29. Juni

does this tumbler have a scanner anywhere tracking how many times you go?

  30. Jen @ Master the Art of Saving

Does anybody know if you could use this in the drive thru??? Like perhaps they could just make one in a paper cup and you could show them your tumbler? The only time I get coffee is through the drive thru. It’s so much quicker and easier than having to go inside.

  31. Kana

$65 may sound crazy upfront, but if you go to Starbucks in every day basis, you know it’s a great deal! Most of Grande drinks cost over $4, which means the tumbler pays itself off within 17 days with the tumbler remaining in your hand. Now what people may want to pay attenttion to is that you have to bring in the tumbler every time you want a drink, and also that $65 is a special price for Black Friday ONLY. Stores will keep selling them while supplies last however the price is $75. I’m excited for this deal.

  32. Jade

I would spend $5.25 on a Grande Hazelnut Macchiato w/Soy since they charge $0.60 extra for soy milk & tax. To break even I’d have to buy 12 drinks/month. I think it isn’t too bad since I’m saving $92.50 if I bought one for 30 days. Plus, I have a Sbucks Gold card w/c allows me free drip-coffee refills after each drip-coffee purchase if you stay in the store, plus they deduct $0.10 for bringing in your own cup. I order a “tall” coffee & my tumbler clearly holds more, but Sbucks doesn’t throw a fit, they just gladly fill it. Lastly, to put it in perspective, an 1.5 hr Deep Tissue Massage Black Fri. special at my massage place is $63. I’d rather stretch the $65 for a month’s worth of espresso drinks! 🙂

  33. Irene

I think this is a great deal for all those daily starbucks drinkers out there! I’m jealous to all those who can drink coffee daily. I love starbucks and usually order the white mocha with soy. Although I wish I could drink coffee everyday I can’t, drinking too much coffee causes me to feel affects after. Boo for poor health

  34. Jenifer

Offer is live online:) If you are luckily like me and November was your birthday month you can use your 15% off code. Bought 2 one for me and one as a gift!

  35. Jade

I just bought the $65 tumbler online, used the coupon code STNPWEKD for 10% off my first order, then had to add a Starbucks Top Hat Lid for $1.99 to get the free shipping for $60+ orders. Ordering online gave the convenience of not having to risk having the tumblers in stock at the store since the barristas said they didn’t know how many they’d be allotted. One location said they may have 10 available, another location didn’t know til the day of & one blog online said their store only had 6. Plus, I paid less in sales tax overall since my total w/the discount & free shipping came out to $65.26. Scenario:

    Tumbler $65.00
    Top Hat Lid $ 1.99
    10% Disc $ -6.70
    Subtotal $60.29
    Free shipping 0
    Tax $ 4.97
    Total $65.26

I was ecstatic when my niece sent the advertisement to me via Facebook. Of course everyone thought I had to be completely insane to to tell my husband I would like that for Christmas when he asked me what I wanted.I thought it was the perfect gift for me though. Everyone of my family and friends know how much I love Starbucks tumblers (every gift giving day throughout the year they get me a tumbler or gift cards from Starbucks) I did the math, this would have been my anniversary tumbler $16.95 that usually does not come with a caramel macchiato with an extra shot in it when he gets it for me. So instead of me paying $5.25 a day, 6 days a week (and sometimes 7 days a week) I am getting it cheaper. What’s the difference in me refilling my Starbucks gold card on a monthly basis of my coffee budget and him buying the tumbler and me getting it a lot cheaper? I’ll tell ya the difference. I am saving money. Everyone has something that they spend money on that they enjoy- mine happens to be Starbucks Caramel Macchiato with an extra shot. It could be worse- it could be cigarettes, alcohol or excessive clothes. After breaking the numbers down- for avid espresso based drinkers it makes perfect sense. For those of you that don’t enjoy Starbucks- no one is forcing anyone into buying it and it isn’t a great deal for everyone, but for me-it is.

  37. Jennifer

Was it only for the 29th
    Is it still available
This is great for myself & daughter!!!

  38. SoozDee

I’m just curious about the participating Starbucks. I saw this tumbler today while visiting out of town with a friend and wonder how many others Starbucks will honor this deal.

  39. SeleneID

How do they keep track of the one-per-day refills? I just received my tumbler in the mail today expecting it to have a barcode or another way to keep track of the fills but it doesn’t. It only has a removable tag that says one free espresso drink per day Jan. 1-31. Can you get any drink for free, or is there a dollar limit? For example, can I add syrup or extra espresso shots?
