Thanks! I was looking for lights for next year and with Lowe’s being out I was pretty bummed. Even used $5.00 reward at check out. 🙂

Makes me seriously consider getting an artificial tree. Never thought I’d say that, but it is so hard trying to get to a tree farm each year with the family to get a tree and there is so little daylight that time of the year that the available time to get to a tree farm evaporates so quickly mixed in with all of the kids activities too! Plus, not having to pay money each December for a tree surely would be nice! Anyone have any advice/comments regarding real/artificial trees for me?

    • Melanie

Marcia, I’m not sure if you have a Lowes close to where you live. We get a 6-7ft tree from lowes every year and they are only about $20. Other places by us are much more expensive.

      • marcia

Melanie, The $20 price sounds great! Also getting to Lowes would not depend on how much daylight was available! I have wanted to stay away from precut trees thinking they’d dry out with needles falling off quicker, but with that price and with the ease of getting a tree from a parking lot then it would surely help to simplify a busy life with kids!

          Marcia,

Personally, my family & I go to Lowe’s each year and spend between $30-$40 on a tree and we always get a fantastic one. We still have ours up (I’ve been a bit lazy lately lol) and the tree is still softer and not dried out. It’s a very tall (almost 9 foot), big round tree. Hope that helps!

        • Emily

I’ve always bought pre-cut trees from a tree stand in our neighborhood. My mom always put an aspirin in with our tree’s water every couple of days, said it helped it keep its needles. (I imagine that’s what’s really in those flower food packets you get with fresh cut flowers) I can’t say if it helps because I’ve never tried it without it but our tree, this year, has barely lost any needles.

I was one who always wanted a real tree, but 7 yrs ago my husband finally talked me into an artificial tree and I have never looked back. We have saved so much money, time, and our tree looks good from after thanksgiving to New Years:). Just get one that looks real and you will love it.

      • marcia

Interesting Jenny! I was always bewildered why my mother and father had an artificial tree, but now here I am at 42 years old with more understanding! I am very curious about doing so and NEVER in my life would have imagined this moment! Thanks for your comment…it is certainly making me wonder! I am feeling like it’d be hard to order a tree online not knowing how real it looked in person…?

        • Lora

I have had an artificial trees since very young: allergies. One thing to watch for is the lighted trees: over time the lights will go out and will cause issues. I would also check for one with the most tips: these are fuller and look the best.

    • Katie

I would say go for it!! And of course the best time to get an artificial tree is now after Christmas. Also if possible have you thought about a living Christmas tree? It is planted in your yard( if you have one ) and u can decorate it!

      • Emily

I looked into the living Christmas Tree because we just bought a home and I wanted to plant our first tree and be able to say in 30 years, “that’s our first Christmas tree” but we had to dig the hole before the ground froze and they say you should only bring it inside for a week otherwise the tree will think it is spring and then be shocked when you stick it outside. It would have been worth it this year (if we didn’t look into it after the ground had already frozen) but not every single season! I’d like to enjoy my tree inside for more than a week.

Hi Marcia! Growing up, we always had a real tree. And the first 2 years married also. We found a beautiful, prelit tree a few years back and I would never consider a real one again! Thinking back on 20+ years of real trees, all I really remember was the drama of getting it in the house, trying to get it straight, pine needles everywhere, watering mishaps and yes, having the thing fall over while fully decorated. For us, having an artificial tree takes a little bit of stress out of the holiday. Just my 2 cents!

      • lovingandlaughing

Thank you for that perspective JA! A fake tree is really sounding rather appealing to me as I think it would alleviate considerable stress in the month of December!

My parents always had an artificial tree when I was growing up. I only had the pleasure of getting a real tree once. It was annoying when all the needles started falling off and the tree started to smell kind of funny. You could always get these things called scentsicles to hang on an artificial tree if you decide to get one. They had them at Target and I believe they also have them at Lowes/Home Depot. They are little sticks that hang on the tree and smell like fresh cut pine, or berry wreath and a few others. I bought them on clearance and can’t wait to use them next year!!

I absolutely love the ease an beauty of artificial trees .got mine at 90 off las yr at sears an they are super nice

  3. Angie

Is it just me or are the prices not that great? Some of the things I looked at were not even on sale! What???? I guess that is why I don’t shop at Sears. I am on the look out for potted treess so I just had to look, silly me.

  4. marcia

Angie, I am not sure. I have not really looked at prices elsewhere. Many of the trees are very expensive here. I did notice that. It made me wonder if the quality was exceptionally good and realistic…?

  5. Jen

Thanks Collin! I was trying to get the GE Sugarplum lights and icicle lights and this is the only place online I could find them for a decent price! I signed up for the trial of Max rewards to get free shipping, went through ebates, scored a $10 off of a future $50 purchase, and earned money back on rewards.

  6. Vishnu

I got an artificial tree from kmart when they had 10$ back in points. I ended up paying 12 ish dollars for a 6 ft tree which was perfect for an apartment. If u have a house and tall cellngs consider a 7th or taller one. I got may compliments on the tree and I am happy with the purchase. Also prelit are more expensive, than wrapping string light around the tree.even prelit one will need additional lighting. Consider all factors before u buy.

I work at sears and next week it will be 90%. My store has plenty of stock left.

    • Tia

Thank you, Marcie for the confirmation. I was going to wait but it is always nice to know that the 90% sale will happen soon.

    • Gigi

Is it 70% in store too??

  8. angie

Hi! If you sign up for shop your way account and it goes past the 90 days, how much does it cost? How do they charge you? I signed up to get free shipping but was completely distracted by my sick kids and so I have been unsuccessful at finding this info. Please help if anyone knows. Thanks in advance!!

    • Melanie

I ordered a doe and a deer from sears today. Just had one of them cancelled from my order because they arent in stock online even though it said it was. Now im stuck with just a doe because its apparently too late to cancel it even though it wasnt too late for them to cancel the deer. ugh.

    • Sarah

I need to know this too!!

  9. Julie

I was just at walmart and I bought a 12 ft pre lit christmas tree for 42 dollars !! And I used a gift card soo nothing OOP but even 42 dollars is a great deal in itself .

  10. DrCMK

Thanks Collin! We went to Sears at our mall this afternoon because the Sears website said that no trees could be delivered to my zip code or our Sears store. But in our local store, there were plenty of trees to choose from. I bought a $300 7.5 footer for $75. Perfect.

  11. Liz Hayes Hoffswell

Looks to me like most of the items online are not 70% off – does anyone know if they are in the store?

  12. MartaS

Thanks Collin! I was waiting for that sale for past 2 months. I really wanted new one this Christmas but next one I put my 300$ tree. I pay 89$ and Im very happy! Thank you again.

  13. lovingandlaughing

Marcia here who commented above asking for opinions on real vs fake trees. I just ordered a fake tree from kmart today. The priced seemed to be around 70% off. We shall see. I decided to go with one without lights so in that way when I add lights anyway I want and it can still look not perfect and less fabricated not having the out of the factory perfect light placement! Also if I decide to do colorful lights one year I can or all white lights or a mix! My husband is very skeptical! He can’t believe I am thinking of a fake tree. I explained how I think it’ll make our a December less stressful, we’ll get the tree up earlier (which the kids will love), we will not have to worry about water or needles or it needing to be tied to the wall or furniture and not how not having to spend money on a tree each Dec which will be really nice! What I paid today was just about the same amount we paid a few weeks ago for our real tree that will be going in the outdoor fire pit soon. I told him next year when we have the fake tree up we can also decorate around the house with real pine boughs here and there instead to enjoy the smell and look of the real thing and we can get those for free! And lastly I told my husband if the fake tree arrives from kmart and we absolutely hate it then we can always go ahead and return it…without any harm done by just giving it a shot out of curiosity!
