Sent from reader, Joanna:

I was shopping one day and found a useful product for keeping your tall boots upright while sitting in your closet. They were these tubular pillows. However, they were $10 for one pair! My wheels started turning and I came up with my own homemade boot chucks. The fabric cost me less than $0.75 cents, the ribbon was half off with a coupon, and I upcycled the cardboard paper towel centers. I simply stuffed with newspaper for added support (which I have a ton of thanks to coupons), wrapped in fabric (I used hot glue to do it) tied a ribbon to the top to connect them and voila! Homemade boot chucks! Super cute too! Less than one dollar for the pair!

Cute! I’m not a fan of tall boots but if I was these would be on my project list!

  2. DC

    Adorbs!! 🙂

  3. alv

adorable. you should sell these on etsy.

    • alv

you could even add purex crystals or something similar to have fresh smelling boots.

  4. rebecca

Great idea and super cute. Now if I just had some boots, I’d know what to do! 🙂

  5. Renata

Great idea! I’ve always just used rolled up magazines to stand boots upright, but this is so much cuter .

    • Nicole Z.

      I use magazines, too!

  6. Cat

I’ve also heard to use cut-up pool noodles from the dollar store for this. Oh, and wine bottles or magazines. These are obviously cuter.

    • AmyE

I use cut up pool noodles; works great and I picked up pool noodles at a garage sale for a quarter!

  7. Maria

You can get cheap pool noodles & cut those to the length of your boot they will hold up and are cheap.

  8. Brenda

Another easy solution- cut pool noodles to size. Cheap and easy… Not as cute though.

  9. tilla ham

i think pool noodles wrapped in fabric would be a bit thicker and very cute

  10. KLR

I use pool noodles cut to the height of the boot. Works great!

  11. Lana

Way back when tall boots were in style last time we made these with rolled up newspapers inside. It gave them some weight.

  12. Tammy

Very cute idea Joanna! Thank you for sharing.

  13. Stephanie

love it! I’m in college and there was ice on campus this morning… I might need to make a few pairs for myself and my friends!

  14. justme

For even the cheaper person.dont decorate them.they r in your ccloset anyway.whats the need.but good idea.i dont have nice boots because i am broke and even if i did have nice boots i am also too broke to buy nice clothes to go with them so everything is nice and matched haha

  16. babybasement

What a creative and adorable idea. I am a boot addict. I mean I have boots from 10 years ago I still wear today and always wondered how to keep them upright to manage space and their shape better. Thanks for the tip!

  17. AngB

I used the foam you wrap pipes in during the winter. We had some left over, works great, even for slouch or cowboy boots 🙂

  18. Farrah

    Genius!!! Thank you!

      Hi Krystal,

This is not the appropriate forum for this. 🙁

She was only trying to share a legitimate deal. I have seen many, many others share their finds within the posts of different offers. Thanks for sharing – it’s an easy way to make a little extra cash for for doing absolutely nothing.

    Empty wine bottles 🙂

  21. Connie

Or use a Christmas wrapping paper roll (cut in half) that you probably just emptied… I use brown grocery bags rolled up.

  22. Bekah

All my boots are tossed around in my closet (lol!). But seriously, I had no idea people put stuff in them to keep them upright. I’m so out of the loop lol 🙂

    • Melissa

Our closets must look the same! I had no idea you were supposed to stuff them to keep them upright. Guess I am out of the loop too!

      • Jenny

for nicer boots it helps to keep their shape and so you don’t get creases from where the tall part is leaning over. I can’t wear tall boot though because my calves are so fat 🙂

  23. Akesha Moore

I also use old wine bottles.

  24. Rachel

    Great & cute idea!

  25. Laura

My boots are all floppy as well. I have never kept them upright. They are easier to store floppy than upright in my opinion… 🙂 !

  26. Katherine

So cute! I use regular ol magazines and rolled up strips of poster board.

  27. Phoebe

U can also use rolled up magazines, works just as we’ll.

  28. Nadia

Why does it matter if it flops?? Because when you wear it is upright anyway.

    • Erin T.

when you store for off-season, you should store them upright, or the leather could crease

  29. Christina

I think having an excuse to drink wine for the bottle would be a good idea! 🙂

  30. Amanda

I keep my shoes in the original boxes, so most of my boots are laying down flat and do not crease anyway. 🙂 Although I have some boxes that are square instead of rectangle, so the boots are folded over and I just keep them that way.
