I purchased this vacuum months ago at Lowes and it was the best investment!! I had an older model dyson (7yrs old) that was getting beat up by my teenager. Anyways, I did a dyson/dyson test by vaccum my whole house with older model. I made sure it was absolutely clean before testing out the new one. I used the new model and OMG, there was SOOOOOO much nastiness in the canister that I had to empty it out twice!!! This vacuum is so worth the money.

Thanks meme for your comment…I’ve been thinking of replacing our 5 year old dyson as well. 2 dogs, 2 boys…more dirt than this girl can handle! 🙂 thinking……okay twist my arm….I think we need a new one…

I’m a cleaning lady and I’ve tried many vacuums(including this Dyson). My favorite is definitely Shark Navigator or Professional.Dyson is too expensive, the canister is too small, suction is not as good as by Shark-especially if you have pets.

  2. Jill

I have this vacuum as well and love it. Highly recommend.

  3. Danielle

Thanks, I’ve been looking for the Dyson Animal!

  4. Shah

It was for $274 around thanksgiving. 🙁

My entire upper level is hardwood. Anyone have any comments on how it does with hard surfaces?

    • Tammy

I have laminate flooring and I use a dyson DC28 through the whole house on my floors — works great!

  6. Whitney

Is this good for hardwood floors as well? We have carpet in our bedrooms but the rest of the house has hardwood.

    • Krystle

I would suggest getting the canister vacuum and get the hardwood floor attachment

      • Whitney

        Thank you!!

  7. Stacy

Yes, this Dyson is the best! We love it, you can switch it from carpet to hardwood floors with a button next to the power button. It works just as great on the hardwood.

Am I the only person that has this vacuum and is disappointed? My Bissell beats the pants off this vacuum. In fact, I have mine for sale on craigslist bc I was so disappointed in it.

    • Amy

Are you willing to share your dislikes? I’m afraid I simply have Dyson envy and would like a bit more to weigh out my choices.

    • Mandy

I do not like mine. The button that switched it from carpet to hardwood never worked right. I had it sent it to be fixed and it came back just the same…except a screw was missing. I wasn’t ever super impressed with it’s cleaning ability either. I’ve thought about getting a Bissell….

I have a dyson animal and dont care for it either. I had a bissel before that picked up more junk. I too wanted to sell mine! I think they are way over hyped. I can vacuum and still find dog hair (among other things) in my carpet when I’m finished. The wand is long and aawkward . I really wish I wouldn’t have bought one.

    • Tammy

I love mine — I have 3 dogs and it does awesome on dog hair. The only thing I have NOT been happy with is the hose attachment. I think for the $$ it should be made a little sturdier. I am on my 3rd hose and they are pricey. The last time I bought a generic knock off hose that works on it and it has outlasted the first 2 dyson hoses.

Besides that I use my sweeper for everything including vacuuming my walls — getting the ceiling cracks and crevices

      • maja

Tammy call customer service every dyson has 10 years manufacture warranty. I have same problem and they send my new one for free plus free service at local store.

Could someone tell me the weight of this Dyson? And is it pre-assembled, or do I have to assemble it? Thanks!

    • Shelby

      It’s pre-assembled and around 17lbs.

    • Swirlpop

I do not know the weight but i find it is somewhat heavy. I was using the lightweight oreck before so maybe thats why it seems heavy. Not a vacuum you want to carry up and down stairs. There is some minor assembly required.

  10. Swirlpop

I’ve owned this model for about a year now. I love it! I was shocked how much dirt this vacuum picks up compared to my cheap vacuum. It has some unique attachments making ceiling fans and curtains a breeze to clean. I paid much more than this! 🙁

  11. Mona

Does this vacuum require expensive filters — I see that some vacuums require two different size filters but I do not know about the Dyson.

    • maja

filters on dyson are lifetime and you just wash them every couple months.

  12. Emily

This vacuum was given to my family as a gift and we ended up returning it. Had high hopes with great reputation of dyson and the whopping price tag- simply not worth the money. My target $79 special works almost just as well-crazy.

  13. Laura

I have this Dyson and absolutely LOVE it!!! I thought I was gonna have to get my carpets steam cleaned cuz they looked so dirty even tho I vacuumed weekly. Got this around Xmas and vacuumed even tho I had just used my old vacuum and wow! It was like a commercial where you could see the dirt coming up! Carpets have never looked better!!!

  14. maja

I dont have this model. I have the DC54 for I think 4 years now. Only I can say is that I love Dyson:-) Great for carpet and laminat/hardwood floors too. I paid mine around $500 back then, and every penny is worth. IMO

  15. Andrea Smith

I got this same model at Kohls.com a few weeks ago for $300.99 (price matched Target’s $429 price at the time, plus used a 30% off coupon code) I also earned $60 in Kohl’s cash so it was the equivalent of $240. I love it!

    • Brittany

You got a great deal, so thrifty!

  16. Allie

I was just admiring my neighbor’s vacuum like this earlier today. Just ordered from Amazon and can’t wait!

  17. Michelle

    $440 now
