Reader Tip: Target Coupons vs Manufacturer’s Coupons

UPDATE: This tip works perfectly for me in Firefox but not in any other browser; however, after reading the comments, it seems that it is not working for some of you in any browser. Darn! I am not sure why this is the case, but I hope that at least a few of you can get it to work.

As you may know, the Target.com Coupon Site offers a mix of printable Target Store coupons and regular manufacturer’s coupons; and it has always been quite difficult to distinguish between these 2 types of coupons prior to actually printing them out. In fact, I often receive emails from readers asking: “How can you tell whether a coupon on the Target site is a Target Store Coupon or a regular manufacturer’s coupon?”

Thanks to Amanda’s comment over on the Hip2Save Facebook page,  I am happy to report that it is now super easy to distinguish between these 2 types of coupons! Check out her tip…

Did you guys see that now when you pass by the coupon with your mouse on the Target website it tells you whether it is a Target coupon or a manufacturer’s coupon and its expiration date?[/h2s_box]

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Hi Mel!

It worked for me in Firefox – can you try in this browser?

      • mel

Tried on hubby’s laptop with firefox & chrome and nada.

      • Sherrie

I am in firefox and its not working for me 🙁

      • Jennifer

Tried clearing your browser history. That did the trick for me 🙂

        • momdkk

          worked for me in chrome

          • momdkk

            in Window platform

        • mel

Tried clearing history and still nothing! I have Windows 8, with both IE & Chrome. My youngest has an ipad, so I’ll try that when he gets home from school.

  2. LG

Thanks for the tip, that will be easier now in deciding what to print.

  3. Jenny

Didn’t work for me with Firefox on my Dell laptop 🙁

  4. Kathy

Not working for me either in Chrome….

  5. Corina

Is there a setting to choose? I am currently on the web site and I pass my mouse over the coupon picture and it does not show any manufacturer or Target coupon info. I do not even see the expiration date. How does it work?

    • Corina

      BTW, I am in Firefox.

  6. Mary

I tried to hover with my mouse over the coupon in both Chrome and Firefox but I don’t get that expiration window to pop up? Should I try a different browser? Thanks!

    • kt

It’s not working for me either

  8. sarah

I am in Firefox and it doesn’t work for me either 🙁

  9. Intchina

I believe the info appears once you have selected a coupon to print it. Also, manufacturers coupons start with ‘when you buy’ while target coupons start with ‘with purchase’. Please correct me if i am wrong.

The tip isn’t working for me either. I’ve tried clearing the history & cache in Safari, FireFox & Chrome. I’ve always used the text to decide (i.e. ‘with the purchase of’ = Target; ‘when you buy’ = Manufacturer).

    • bonnie

That is exactly how I distinguish between Target and a Manufacturer coupon and it always works. If it says “when you buy…”, it is a manufacturer coupon. Otherwise, it’s a target coupon.

  10. Bridget

The ones that say “when you buy” tend to be MQ and the ones that say “with purchase of” usually are Target coupons.

    • mel

yes. but sometimes they have coupons that just say $2 off xx product. You don’t know until you print if its a Target or Manuf coupon.

      • Deb

I have found those are usually Target coupons.

      • MJ

‘When you purchase’ or ‘$x off y product’ coupons = Target

        ‘When you buy’ = MQ

No messing with opening additional screens this way 🙂

        • Bridget

Thank you. I knew there was a different wording of it but couldn’t remember.

  14. dealhousewife

working perfectly for me in chrome! awesome!

  15. Aim

    It works on Safari

  16. spi_cy13

A few weeks ago, I contacted Target via Facebook about this matter. They told me that they will look into this matter. I’m hoping it works for me, once I get my laptop on. I use Chrome and Internet Explorer 9.

  17. DJB

Worked for me just fine in IE.

  18. cjs

I don’t know about anyone else, but I haven’t been able to print Target coupons for over 6 months now….well, actually, they technically ‘print’, but the whole coupon never prints…just a fraction of the coupon on the bottom. I was thinking about calling Target Technical support, but I don’t know if I will be on hold for hours 😉

  19. Jennifer

Mine worked the other day in IE, but now it’s not working in any browser. Strange!

    • Jennifer

Now mine is working in IE! I just cleared my browsing history and that did the trick! Yay!

  20. Shirley

It works on my iPad. Just touched above the dollar amount and it came up, thanks Collin.

  21. Jennifer

the way I tell the difference is target coupons will say with purchase of, manf coupons will say when you buy

    • Michelle

Jennifer is right, manufacturers coupons on the Target site will usually say ” when you buy” on them.

  22. jag

It worked for me on Chrome (Windows)!

  23. Shanshans

I’ve cleared all history/cache etc and restarted the browsers, still NOT working. 🙁
I have Windows XP with Chrome (Version 33.0.1750.117 m) and Firefox (version 27.0.1)

  24. Lisa

    Works with Chrome 🙂

  25. Angie

It works for me in Chrome. I have an hp labtop with Windows 8.

  26. Ash

It worked for me on Chrome (iPad ) Didn’t work on safari( iPhone & iPad )

  27. Breanna

You can also tell the difference between the coupons by how it’s worded.
    With purchase = Target coupon
When you buy = manufacturer’s coupon
Some of the coupons don’t say those words, but most of the time you can tell they are Target coupons because the item is a Target only brand…like up & up.

  28. Anna Harmon

    worked for me in chrome

  29. paige

    not in firefox 🙁

  30. Kristen

I tried chrome, safari, AND firefox. No go on any of them.

  31. Katie

it works for me in internet explorer!

  32. Cathy

I use word association to remember, since “with” the purchase is Target coupon, I remember my saying to myself “WITH” Target coupons, I save more. Seems silly but works for me.

  33. Lisa

This worked for me last week, but it doesn’t work this week. It looks like they don’t have all the kinks ironed out yet.
