Yes, I do occasionally purchase these items. I live my life in moderation. I enjoy candy on occasion and GMO-filled snacks. I don’t feel guilty about it either. I know that the majority of my meals are healthy and nutritious. Of course, this is just how I live my life… and YOU are entitled to live your life just how you want to.

I was going to have this post be all about how you can save on organic and natural products with coupons AND on how it’s such a myth that couponers always fill their carts with junk food. However, I stopped and deleted. I don’t need to defend what I buy or what you buy.  We each get to choose the way we live our lives.

And I am sure you are curious…

Why the heck did she write this post?

Well, this post may have stemmed from the comments on a Facebook post regarding my Walgreens shopping trip. It appears that a few readers didn’t quite understand why I was purchasing lots of junk and chemicals.

So to answer – because I want to! 🙂

“Because I want to!” Enough said! :). Now back to saving.

I don’t think anyone needs to avoid GMOs at all. I have a degree in Genetics and I think GMOs are misunderstood. Someone somewhere decided that they are bad and a bunch of people jumped on the bandwagon and now they are evil. Just like the scare of immunizations years ago because of a bad study linking autism with immunizations. Immunizations are safe and so are GMOs!

    • Sussie

What is a “GMO”? Acronyms sometimes make me crazy!

      • Christina

        Genetically modified organisms

    • Kristina

Immunizations are not entirely safe – “The Vaccine Injury Compensation Trust Fund provides funding for the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program to compensate vaccine-related injury or death…” (copied from the .gov site) – but they at least do not affect others. (Incidentally, one vaccine recently added autism as a possible side effect.)

As for this post’s topic, because people choose to keep purchasing food products that are full of chemicals, everyone has fewer options. As I said in an earlier comment, when people are informed (BPA’s, pink slime), things change. When people keep consuming garbage, we all suffer. To each their own, for sure, but I don’t find fault with anyone who wants better and is passionate about it.

completely agree Kristina! I PERSONALLY know a 1 YEAR OLD….who DIED…..the DAY AFTER she got her 1 year old VACCINATIONS!!!!!!!! Due to a reaction FROM THE VACCINATION. If she hadn’t gotten it, or possibly waited until she was a big bigger….she would still be here today. VERY SAD. Vaccinations are NEW (((50 years in the medical field is NEW…….they are NEW, they cannot be trusted. thank you have a nice day. I will NOT be back on here to read reply comments just fyi…

“I don’t find fault with anyone who wants better and is passionate about it” I agree with you, Kristina. To each his own. However, some people sound condescending when they state the difference in his and others’ choice of food. Some others are too passionate to the point of being irritating for INSISTING their belief on to others. It’s a matter of being respectful of others’ choices and knowing how to state differences in a constructive manner and learning when to shut up.

Well said Collin . I agree! Let every one make their own choices and be respectful what ever their choice may be. We all would be much happier if we support each other.

Like it says in the Paradoxical Commandments:
“The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
    Think big anyway.”
Keep thinking big Collin! Let the small minded people waste their time judging everybody else.

I love it!! My family eats mainly organic and healthy, but you only live once and there is no reason not to indulge once in a while!! Well said!!

Collin, It’s obvious that the writer of this post does not visit your website very frequently!! You are a very healthy eater. My husband and I also eat very healthy and additionally have recently added low sodium to our dietary challenges. However, I STILL save a ton of money from your posts!! Besides dark chocolate is heart healthy…lol!!!

Love Nancy’s comment! Keep on doing what your doing gal!! We love ya!!

  10. Beth

I choose to be GMO free, however I know that it is my choice, just like I know that it is others choice not to be. No judgments, just choices. Regardless of my eating habits, I 100% APPRECIATE hip2save.com and all the work that goes into it. This site is about much more than food and food choices, and my bank account and parts of my life wouldn’t be very different if it wasn’t for this site.

Thank you for all that you do!
