How to make freezer jam Hip2Save

Notes: In its frozen state, this jam should be good for at least 6 months when stored properly. Once open, the jam will keep in the fridge for 1-2 weeks. For this reason, I prefer to store my jam in smaller Tupperware containers with tight lids.

Homemade Freezer Jam Hip2Save
Freezer jam doesn’t last long in our house – my kiddos enjoy making toast and sandwiches with it! And keep in mind that you can also make different fruit combos like mango strawberry, raspberry /strawberry, etc.

Have you made freezer jam? What kind does your family love?

I love strawberry season! I raise my own and just made 9 pints of jam and 15 1/2 pints of syrup last night. I haven’t tried the low sugar recipe, but it looks yummy!

  2. Abby

Collin! Remember that M&M’s movie night text deal you posted a while ago? Well, I entered twice, didn’t win and then sort of forgot about it. BUT I just got a text saying I’d won! So I’ve found a blu ray at Target for $5.00, selected in store pick up, et voila, free movie! Thanks for all you and your team do!

    • Michelle

Me too!! I was happy, better late than never 😀

      • mel

I Finally won tonight too! ! I ordered a $5 target gc, which I sent to myself via smartphone option. Then used the remaining $1 for an Amazon code!

We love Raspberry Freezer jam but my old recipe calls for a boatload of sugar…more sugar than berries! I didn’t know there was a pectin for low sugar available. Is the recipe the same for raspberry jam then? Many thanks. I love the fresher flavor and vibrant color of freezer jam. Yum!

  4. jtsmaman

I love this idea but we have an allergy to oranges in our family. Any ideas for substituting?

    • jl

We make strawberry freezer jelly using Pomonas Pectin and have never added orange juice (or any other citrus for that matter). You might want to look into it!

    • Suzyq

      We use lemon juice

    • Amie

I make it without the OJ. There os a recipe inside the box of Sur gel pectin I use that doesn’t call for Oj. It’s a simple great recipe.

    • JO

There is a low sugar Sur gel box that requires no orange juice that I’ve been using for yrs.

    • H

You can do the same recipe, but without the orange juice. Not even sure why it is added unless you want it even sweeter. I’ve been making low sugar strawberry freezer jam for years.

  5. Steph

My neighbor used to make this with tart cherries off her tree–so delish with a bagel + cream cheese!

  6. Darla

Awesome! My MIL just got me a flat of strawberries! Love her but boy I got some work ahead of me!

  7. Jx

Looks good! What’s pectine? Can u get it at any grocery store? Any substitutes?

    • CW

Yes it’s in little boxes on the baking aisle of most grocery stores.

    • Lauren

I found mine in a plastic can by all of the mason jars and other canning supplies. White container, lime green lid

If you’re a sprouts shopper apricots are $.48/lb last day is today. Making apricot blackberry jam this weekend!

    • Dani

My family loves apricots! I froze two cases and got a rain check for two more because I wanted to dehydrate them. But I think I will use some for freezer jam. Blackberries are expensive but strawberries aren’t. Anybody know if that would be a good combo or have any other suggestions?

      • Karen

Make a pineapple-apricot jam that’s really good. Use 1 can of crushed pineapple with your apricot jam recipe on the sure jell box.

  9. Carrie

Just combine a small amount of sugar and fruit. Boil until desired thickness and store in freezer. No pectin and no citrus. Yummy. Have tons of strawberry and apricot!

  10. Marlene

Can we use this for strawberry lemonade like a to put some in the lemonade mixture

  11. Michelle

Does anyone know how to do this without sugar?

    • Megan

There’s a product out there called Pamona’s Pectin which has instructions for a sugar-free jam.

  12. meg

Thanks lina! Love all these recipes.

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

      You’re welcome 🙂

  13. Jennifer

Yum! Never tried this but it looks so fresh and yummy. Lina has got you all giving me creative ideas about different types and ways to make jam. Can’t wait to try, thanks Lina!

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

      Great! Thanks for reading 🙂

  14. Jen

Grew up on strawberry freezer jam! I love this stuff, thanks for reminding me it still exists! I need to try making it on my own.

  15. Kathy Cannon

Would this recipe work for blueberries too?

  16. Kim

Ball NO COOK freezer jam!!! works great and don’t have to cook anything…. 🙂

  17. Victoria Klingonsmit (@vicsecret007)

no pectin necessary – just use ultragel or chia seeds for thickening.

  18. tina

Can you use freezer bags with this recipe?

    • Karen

I wouldn’t recommend it. But you can use any container. Plastic frosting containers are great, along with the tubs cream cheese comes in or cottage cheese. You want something that will protect it from freezer burn.

  19. Sue

Wow that’s a lot of sugar!

  20. Kathy

If I leave out the orange juice, do you think I can substitute stevia in place of the sugar for a keto version?
