How to make your own makeup remover Hip2Save

Directions:

  1. Combine ingredients and pour in a small bottle.
  2. Shake well.
  3. Use with cotton balls or pads to remove makeup.

This recipe has worked really well for me! I’ve been using it for a couple weeks with no issues – I love using almond oil on my skin because it has lots of vitamin E and it’s not as greasy as other oils. Have you ever made your own makeup remover?

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

      Yes!

  2. L

You can use any oil straight to remove makeup.

    I use sunflower oil.

  3. Cannielle

I use baby oil to remove makeups al the time, only works on the face through. For water proof eye makeups, I use Neutrogena. I will definitely try this later, thanks for sharing!

  4. Cannielle

Love that you put it in Estau Lauder? bottle. I am gonna do this for my sister who would only buy expensive brands!

    • Cannielle

      Estee ? Lauder

I have been using coconut oil on its own for over a year now (to remove eye makeup) and it has worked well, with no eye irritations!

    • Mella

Make sure it’s USDA labeled extra virgin coconut oil, cold pressed.

    • Sarah

      That’s what I’ve been using too! 🙂

  6. kris

    can you use avocado oil?

  7. Emilie

This is great! I use jojoba oil to remove mascara but sometimes it gets a little greasy so I will try this instead. Thanks for sharing!!

  8. Amy

Thank you very much! I am excited to try a more natural makeup remover. Does it work well on waterproof eye makeup?

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

Yes I think it does. ☺️ thanks!

  9. Rachel

Hmm. Wonder if this is safe for contact lens wearers.

Random : I started getting these underneath the skin acne on my chin and I was wondering if anyone has products or routines that worked for them. I have VERY dry skin, after I had my baby I’ve been neglecting my skin for the past 10 months (not moisturizing it) so it’s catching up to me =( so if any of you have some tips for me I would appreciate it!

Im an esthetician, always use a oil free makeup remover(its eye safe and wont clog pores), face soap (i like neutrogina) then witch hazel as toner(evens ph in skin and closes pores), followed by oil free moisturizer. Your beakouts will prolly get worse before it gets better because your super cleaning your skin. Give it 7-10 days. Plus change your pillowcase often( you sweat at night and it gets icky way easy)

      • Mei

I thought waiting hazel was a skin irritant because of the natural alcohol content

jojoba oil. I love it. It is closes to the same oil as your skin. Drying it out makes more acne, I know this first hand. I use California baby shampoo for wash, not sure how important this is, but it has not bad chemicals, rates a 0 out of 10 in toxicity. Then I put on jojoba oil. (trader joes, amazon) a little does a lot. It has a healing and a moisture component. to a 1 or 2 ounces of oil, You can add a few drops of rose or chamomile oil, or even lavender, which is anti bacterial. For very bad acne I would recommend a drop or 2 of tee tree. I didn’t find brake outs get worse when I used this (1 year ago), just smoother and clearer. it healed what was already out, while slowly slowing breakouts down. I hope this helps.

        Thank you both!! =)

Hi Rachel I used to have the same problem started making my own scrub with becarb soda and baby shampoo mixed in a small container take little bit up and on wet face gently rub,it exfoliates your skin so be gentle or you will end up with a rash. Rinse off with warm water do this every other day till you see an improvement.

I use to buy ponds wipes, now i just use a baby wipe

    • Deb

      Me too!
I get the ones for a buck @ WM or Dollar Tree. Your face doesn’t care ig they’re for the other end.

  12. Shelley

I love the cotton ball and q-tip holder. How clever, votive and a mason jar

Is almond oil something you can get at a grocery store or is it usually a more specialized type store? Thanks!! 🙂

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

I found mine at a natural store 😉 thanks!

  14. Yolande

Thank you for the idea! I love making things myself instead of buying, not just because it saves money. I find it very satisfying to be able to say ” I did this”.

  15. Joann S

Wouldn’t using these essential oils be the Opposite of what the esthetician “M” is saying about using an oil free makeup remover. I haven’t done it yet because I think it would be greasy… Plus with the waterproof mascara, I’m thinking it won’t be too effective. Comments?

    • kate

I started using 1/4 teaspoon of coconut oil on my skin as a night moisturizer because my day one has spf and I wanted something more natural. My combination skin has never looked better. The oily parts are less so and the dry areas are gone. I still get blackheads on my nose but almost no zits now. And it works with almost no effort to get of waterproof mascara and eyeliner! A little goes a long way!

Great idea im going to try this!

Well, oil breaks down oil. Which makeup is made of oils so these are very effective for removing eye makeup. I used to use boscia make up break up. That was awesome but $. Now I’ve been using trader joes vitamin e oil with coconut oil. Works nearly (not quite as good) as boscia and i haven’t had any skin issues. I actually started moisturizing with Argan oil and I love that for my dry skin too. Its a misconception that oil always makes your skin break out. The wrong kind of oil, sure. But too many people strip their skin with harsh chemicals and too many products causing more issues. That was me several years back!

  22. Joanna

I use only oil. Its great for you skin, dry eyes and even moisturizers my lips. I have used olive oil, avacado oil and almond oil. It feels amazing and won’t clog pores. I make sure its cold pressed oils.

  23. Pixie

For decades, I have used petroleum jelly to remove eye makeup–even waterproof mascara with no irritation to delicate skin around eye area.

  24. Dot Liverman

I just made this using jojoba oil since I am out of almond oil. I used it to remove my eye make-up. All I can say is “I LOVE IT!”

  25. nereida cordero

This sounds great!love almond oil. I will definitely give it a try.

  26. Mary burneston

Where to buy sweet almond oil.?

  27. Piper

I 💙the idea 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙 the idea this is so smart and looks so affective 😃😃😃😃😃😃

  28. Betty Barnes

That’s pretty simple ingredients I believe and it’s so easy to follow. I never thought it would be that easy, I used to buy expensive remover and my sister too. I’m kind of lazy to search DIY makeup remover tutorial because I think it’s complicated and maybe I had to search few hard-to-find ingredients 😀
Definitely gonna try this 3 ingredients today, thank you so much for sharing, Collin 🙂

  29. Lizzy0612

Does it have to be tear free baby shampoo or can it be any kind of shampoo?

  30. Michelle S

I just use the almond oil by itself. It works perfectly and there are no unwanted chemicals. I have the exact brand in the photo. Beware that tear-free baby shampoo has numbing chemicals in it.

  31. Pat

I just use straight baby shampoo on a cotton ball. Works perfectly, so why use a mixture? Much cheaper just to use the shampoo.
