So I have a question for anyone who gets the coupons in the Sunday paper, how do you get your paper? I want to start getting it every Sunday but it’s $2.25 here. And I would want to get about 3 of them for all the coupons. How do some people get a TON of those ads? It seems so one wants to share their couponing secrets with me and I have no idea how to go about it. I don’t need like 20 of them, I just wanna know how to get a good deal on 2 or 3 at a time. Thanks! (I know she shares a link I here but I’m talking about getting multiple at a time)

      two words: dumpster diving.

another (wo)man’s trash is another (wo)man’s treasure!

I developed a relationship with the workers at a store near my home. They give me the unsold Sunday newspapers (they only need the front page for reimbursement). I also ask my family to hold the coupon inserts for me when they pick up the Sunday newspaper.

      • thecentsiblefamily

        That’s what I do too πŸ™‚

        • Tiffany

          So do I.

I usually get one paper delivered to my house every Sunday. Then to get more I made a deal with some friends and family that I can have their coupons and when they need things I get for free, like toothpaste or shampoo, I will bring it to them. It works out pretty well and I usually end up with four copies of the coupons.

I live in North Alabama. Our local Walmart will price match The Birmingham News from Dollar Tree for $1.00. It is regularly $2.00. I don’t usually buy them from Dollar Tree because they don’t normally carry a large quantity and usually have run out by the time I get there on Sunday.

    • Barb

Do not dumpster dive because you could get arrested.

    • MARGOT

I buy the local Sunday paper because I believe in supporting investigative journalism, among other things, and because the local paper has lots of other deals and coupons for restaurants, etc. That gives me one set of coupons. They also have a bargain for multiple orders of the Sunday paper, which doesn’t work for me as, like you, I only need a few items. But if you could find some other clippers to share with? So when I know one of my”special” products is available, I ask friends/relatives if I can have it. But the big deal here is that there is a weekly paper, a freebie, that also carries coupons and is available in paper racks (actually enclosed boxes) in front of various businesses, as well as delivered to residences. So that paper comes out on Thursdays with the coupons that were in the daily paper on Sunday.
You can check the on-line coupon sites also, but you have to pay for paper and ink (be sure to print fast draft, black ink only).
And dumpster diving is a broad term, not necessarily literal. Try dropping by the local coffee shop (Starbuck’s?) or other hangout that has papers around. A good source for me is the Nordstrom’s coffee bar in the local mall. Or get to know your local paper route operator!
Finally, I think it is $2.25 well spent for the week for your own copy on Sunday.

I buy them at the grocery store where I work. I get one for $1.80. Or if I have rr I get them at walgreens before work

    • Caroline Bee

My Walmart sells them 2 for $1.50 and I usually get them from there. I also have a couple of people at work that save the inserts for me.

If you live on O`ahu where the Sunday papers are $2.25 in the stores, the local carriers who you see at some busy intersections from 8 a.m – noon sell the Sunday paper for $1. Otherwise, I go to smart couponing seminars offered by some people who’ve become famous for being “extreme couponers” and who’ve brought in people from the television show to run the seminars. Seminars are advertised online and in the regular newspapers. While at the seminars, you can sign up for special deals with the newspaper company to receive, for example, 5 Sunday papers and 5 newspapers on holidays; the total comes out to $1 per Sunday paper and the piddly cents for the 5 papers on holidays. Whatever coupons I don’t need, I give to family or sometimes, I just leave them on store shelves next to sale items I don’t wish to buy so someone else can save $ on their purchases.

I ordered my subscription from discounted newspapers which is a lot cheaper than going through the daily herald. I paid $15 for 20 weeks (.75 a week) which is a pretty good deal for the Chicago daily herald πŸ˜ƒ

Do you know anyone that has a paper route? A friend of ours use to have tons of inserts left every Sunday. She kept some for herself, gave her married daughter some, and still shared with 3 other families. We just could not count on the same amount each week, but usually she had enough for 4 or 5 sets of inserts per person. Also, we lived in a smaller town, there were a couple convenience stores that only had to turn in the top of the first page to get credit for the unsold papers. Every Sunday night (at their closing time) or early Monday morning (just as they opened) we would stop by and if for some reason we didn’t make it in—-they would hold the papers for us until Wednesday.

    • llc

We pay the delivery person $20 every few 6 months and they deliver 2 papers every sunday and one each day during the week. We don’t actually have a subscription. We just stopped the delivery woman and asked if she would throw to us. We could ask for more but I never need more than 2 (if I do I buy them from CouponFleaMarket.com because they are much cheaper than ebay). We also bring them a huge goody bag at Christmas full of baked goods and freebies I have gotten thru couponing. No dollar stores in our area carry the paper and its $3.00 on Sunday.

  2. Nancy

We have a local paper with Smart Source coupons. They are sponsored by local businesses so we get them for free. I just asked my neighbors if I can have them if they don’t read them. I know other areas can buy their local papers for cheaper than the Sunday paper to get multiples.

  3. Angie

I get mine from the dollar store. As long as I use $1.00 worth of coupons from each, I’ll stay ahead.

    • Kidsallgone

Dollar Tree? Dollar General? Or is there such a place as “Dollar Store?”

      • Hope

I get mine from Dollar Tree

  4. Karen

My sunday only delivery is $3/week. I get my moms coupons and then order from a clipping service if i want more. I asked at the dollar tree and they looked at me like i was crazy, lol!

  5. Rachiejordi

Wow! Thanks everyone for the responses and suggestions! I’ll have to try some of these. Lol.
Btw dumpsters diving was my favorite one hahaha

I live in the Atlanta area. It’s easy to find double papers in Publix for $3.99. A double paper consists of the early (Saturday) edition and a Sunday edition of the paper(Atlanta Journal and Constitution). I think the single edition price is $2.99. I always know how many inserts to expect and check to make sure they are in them before I purchase. There are some other stores that do the double papers, but Publix is the most convenient for me.

  7. Zee

I just buy mine out right from my rite aid store. The staff are nice and they hold the newspapers for me every Sunday. It’s still cheaper than getting them delivered to my house.

  8. ShelbyinWashington

I go into a Starbucks near my house around noon on Sunday after the morning customers have purchased papers and left them for others to read. (There is usually a basket of read newspapers in most Starbucks) There is almost always 2 or 3 inserts. Same thing with a couple grocery stores near me. They have a little sitting area where people can read the paper and have coffee or something from the Deli and then there is always a stack of newspapers already read left for other people to read. Coupons are almost always left!! Just need to get there after papers are read but before the employees throw them away. πŸ™‚ good luck hunting!! I am the same just looking to get 4-5 inserts a week.

    • a friend

      Thanks for this tip! πŸ™‚
I was able to get today’s insert from a paper left in a grocery store sitting area.

  9. Jenn

I have four papers delivered to my house every Sunday (that is the max). Two of them, I paid $5 for a year. The other two I got for $10 a year. Groupon and living social have my paper (central fl) on there a coupon times a year.

    • Jellybean

I tried a subscription, but was told after I subscribed that coupons weren’t included in the subscription. How crazy is that?

  10. jen

Let people know you want the inserts. A lot of people just toss them. I mentioned it at church one week and now have about 10 – 12 people that bring me their inserts each week.

  11. tabitha

    99cent store

  12. Lindak

I buy 1 copy and get my mom’s rejects. Also I work in a library and we get 2 copies of the local paper, so the staff shares the coupons.

  13. Zandra

Check your local public library. Ours has a basket in the lobby for people to donate or take coupons free.

  15. Tarri

Did anyone that gets Sac Bee get the PG in it?

  16. lancy

I’m disappointed with Sun Sentinel, it has been 2 weekends already that i have been getting incomplete inserts. Last week, i only got the smartsource insert. And yesterday, only the p&g insert was included. Such a waste of money.

  17. lacey

Anybody have an extra p & g coupon insert they can send to me???? I missed out on the paper yesterday! πŸ™ I have a bunch of Disney movie codes to trade anyone…..

  18. Tarri

Well happened to find two by a dumpster on Monday. Made up for 2 of the 3 I did not get.
