What a pain! And I ordered online a few hours ago.

    • Carol_R

It doesn’t affect online orders from what I’ve read. Just those who made credit & debit purchases at brick & mortar stores.

    • Sarah

The data breach was announced a week ago.

in GA I just received letter from my bank about this and so did my moms bank. I went in Home Depot for air filters, Lowe’s I’m coming back to you next door. I find that so odd Lowe’s/Home Depot are next door to each other in th south

it is so sad what is happening in the world today-If only the bad people would use their smarts to do good, what a wonderful world it would be!!

    • Lynn

      Well said.

    • Carol_R

I agree. It will force retailers to start using the more secure microchip in their credit cards that Europe has gone to rather than the insecure magnetic strip.

      • Queenjen87

US should be fully equipped by 2016. Most banks are starting to issue new credit cards with chips, and debit cards are soon to follow.

    • Sue

      Very well said.

Ours was stolen at self check out. When I called them to let them know what happened it was like they thought I was mental. Ours was hit Jan 2014, thankfully when the people hit the card to check if they would get away with it our card called us immediately and canceled our cards. Not impressed with how they handled what could have been a very costly situation.

This is the 3rd time that I have had to get a new debit card due to a store’s data breach. First Target, Groupon, and now Home Depot. I will not be shopping there any time soon and if I do, then I will be using cash only. What is wrong with the big corporations that they cannot do more to stop this crap. Enough

This just got me scrambling to check my bank! Thank God the last time I used a card there was February! But this is just getting ridiculous!

Has anyone else received a few fishy emails from Shop Your Way Rewards in the past hour?

    • Krista

No, and I use the site daily. I nix things if it gets too personal.

    • spongemonkey

I’ve been getting phishy stuff from Amazon ([twice] and I’m not even a Member) perpetrators & most recently from Paypal (also not a Member).

  7. Kristina

Does it effect purchases with the Home Depot credit card?

  8. Stacy

My bank contacted me a week ago saying my debit card data was stolen and they would be issuing a new card. I’m grateful my bank contacted me.

  9. Laura

Due to all of the data breaches, I’ve opted for a new debit/ATM card. That I now only use as a ATM card. I use cash. Yes, it takes a bit of getting used to. But at least I’m safe.

    • Elizabeth

Just be aware that your info can be stolen from an ATM as well

      • mel

Yup. My good friend had her debit card info stolen using an ATM over the summer, so even doing that is not safe.

      • RB

Yes, they say this can be circumvented by covering the keypad to block it when you enter your pin. According to fraud protection information sent out by my bank, the skimming devices that steal the magnetic strip data from the card containing the account information work in conjunction with a camera relied upon by the thieves to determine what the associated pin is.

    • RB

For this reason I have ATM only, (still available from my credit union).

I was contacted in July 2014 by my bank about a fraudulent Home Depot charge as well and had to get a new debit card. I had not been in a HD for over a year so beware something is off about their after April 2014 breach story.

  11. Jarrod

The question is do we want to do business with companies like this that wait 6 months to notify us?

  12. realfaithnjesus

I live on the East Coast and shop at Home Depot regularly. Just a couple of Saturdays ago, charges began to appear on our account under my debit card. The charges were in Mexico, to which I have never been. I seldom use my debit card anywhere but Home Depot or Walmart, other than for gas. How does one determine the source of the fraud that has occurred? In other words, I strongly suspect this was a result of Home Depot, but how does one prove this to obtain the offer for identity protection? My bank reimbursed the funds after about 10 days…

  13. Heather Z

Really? When will the government step in and require chips to be placed into all credit cards, similar to most European countries? I just moved and placed many things on my credit card at both Lowes and Home Depot. I think if the majority of us just stopped using our credit cards, maybe companies would wise up about their technologies? 🙁

  14. Petra

I shop at Home Depot and my debit card was fraudulently charged 2x last night for almost $800. If stores would demand to see a photo Id like JCP does then there would be less fraud
