[h2s_box width=”2″ style=”dashed” color=”#F5B505″]My friend and her husband have both gone without jobs in the last year. Her husband is working now, but she is still without a job. With the holidays coming, money was especially tight. Wednesday night she came home to find a gift on her porch! The gift included: Christmas-themed coloring books for her 4-yr-old son, candy, a $50 gift card to her grocery store, and a jar. The jar was FILLED with coins!

When she went to the bank to turn in the coins, she found two more gift cards and a roll of cash hidden inside! She said that words cannot describe her thankfulness! With the gifts also came a book called “Christmas Jars“. The book inspired this gift. I just wanted to share because it’s a reminder to me to GIVE to others, instead of focusing on myself! I think we’ve found a family Christmas project for this next entire year! [/h2s_box]

(Thanks, Sarah!)

Great book! Makes a really sweet Christmas present too! My Grandparents have been doing this for years since reading this book, we love the story.

    Beautiful story……..

This is such a beautiful book and idea. A few years back I was giving. It truly is better to give than to receive. Life has come at us hard and fast and I’ve been the one on the receiving end. It’s humbling. I can’t wait until I can be on the giving end again.

Us too! Praying for your family that things will turn around for you. Blessings and Merry Christmas!

I love this book! I shared it with my book club several months ago. We all have read the book & we’ve been saving change each month to give to a needy family. We will also be adding gift cards to the jar instead of swapping Christmas gifts among ourselves this year. I’m blessed and excited to be a part of such a caring group of women!

      That’s awesome, Julie! πŸ™‚

Collin, I had not heard of this book until I saw your post a couple of years ago. I read some of the stories online; I was so inspired I bought six books to get me and my family started! I love all the deals that you post but what I truly love about your site is that you and your family are kind, caring, and giving…so are many of my fellow readers! I love that this little community gives to one another…whether it be advice, coupons, or just help in general!

        • nicolegammeter

I appreciate that so much! This really is a great group of readers!! πŸ™‚

What a joy to read of how someone was blessed in a time of real need. The Christmas spirit is truly every day of the year.

Wow! This sounds like a great gift. I often feel down about not having enough money to give to others, but we can be creative in our giving. It may not need to be money. Baking a casserole for someone, volunteering, giving free things we’ve received. We just need to be creative… One fun idea when someone is down or feeling alone, send a card or flowers or whatever and you can sign it “from someone who cares” and that makes the person think of all the people who care… and that is the best part…

Also, over the weekend, I went to Target to look at air purifiers to try to get rid of an annual cough.. I’ve been trying everything and am desperate to be rid of it… They didn’t have any, but I had an empty cart. I saw a man carrying a large keurig and some boxes of coffee. I offered him my cart and said they didn’t have purifiers, would you like my cart? He said he was an Environmental Specialist and asked me about what I needed. I said I was trying to get rid of the cough and he then said he’s also a doctor! We talked about my cough for 45 minutes… What a money-saver to me… He said he believed that I was the one to offer him a cart for a reason and said it wasn’t coincidence. So, you never know where a little help comes in handy… Seemed like nothing but a nice gesture for me, but that cart helped him and he gave me GREAT specialized medical advice I needed.

Beautiful story! Hoping your cough is cured soon and that you have a very Merry Christmas!

      • linda

Thanks. Merry Christmas to you too… Funny thing is no doctors can really find anything wrong. That’s the problem… ha ha…

    • sarah

That is so wonderful Linda! Just a reminder that God puts us in the right place at the right time for a reason!

Thanks for your good wishes… Feel fine, just have a cough…

        • tilla ham

i don’t want to be an alarmist in anyway, but my grandfather had a cough every year, no other symptoms and felt fine…he ignored it for years, his lung cancer was stage 4 before they found it (he was a non-smoker) . Don’t ignore a cough by not going to a doctor in an office and having tests run….it could be just a simple allergy or a tickle, but it could be serious

          • linda

Thanks for your concern Tilla. I have not neglected it. I have gone to doctors over the years. Last year, went to a few doctors for 3 months and then went to urgent care when I woke up one morning with complete laryngitis from it and they thought I had lots of bad things going on. Went to a lung specialist and he said that there was nothing there and didn’t know why they told me all those bad things and said it’s in your throat. Saw ENT and he said throat’s fine and ran asthma tests… Nothing… So they have done xrays, cat scan (er last yr), asthma tests, acid reflux… the whole gamut… Everything is normal… Just a cough that sounds bad… and I lose my voice sometimes. No one can figure it out… But this guy said to try claritin D to help with congestion and that HAS helped tremendously. I’m so grateful it’s helped, but the cough is there a bit… Still trying it… and an inhaler and doing all the right things… That’s why I was so grateful for this doctor’s advice since he specialized in this. He told me timing of the inhaler, not to buy a purifier and the congestion was the real problem… But thank you so much for your thoughts. I’m sorry to hear about your grandfather. (In the ER last year, they told me I had a nodule in my lung and really scared me, but a specialist said there was nothing there and they were wrong. Put my mind at ease.)

            • Sarah

I know exactly where you are coming from….had a cough for almost 2 years….my voice was gone most of that time…and went to doctors over and over and had lots of tests…and no answers….saw an ent for over a year and he tried everything and had no idea what was going on….but taking allegra now (even though allergy testing showed no allergies) and feel and sound fine…most of the time. Do you lose you voice and cough if you smell alot of different fragrances…I do…a candle store or perfume counter is no place for me. I can handle a couple but not alot. I wish you the best and hope you continue to feel better.

Looks like a good book, I think I will buy a few as gifts and one for myself/daughter. Anyone know if a 9 year old would understand this book?

    • Krista M.

I think a 9 year old will understand especially if you read it together. It’s a relatively short book. I’ve given dozens of these books out. It’s a great family read πŸ™‚

Love this, very inspirational, thanks for posting! This year in our Advent calendar, instead of gifts or things to do, we put in a note with 1 thing written each day to “pay it forward”. example pay for customer order behind us in car line at Starbucks, buy gift for toy drive. Leave a holiday cheer anonymous gift on neighbors doorstep. we are hoping to also inspire others to pay it forward as well.

      Neat idea! πŸ™‚

    Wow… Inspiring story!
Totally off topic does anyone know whether I have to print the coupon for my free beverage in dunkin or coupon in the smart phone accepted? Trying to save ink! TIA.

    • Karen

They can scan it right off your phone!

      • Brindha

        Thanks Karen!
