CVS Health to Acquire 1,600 Target Pharmacies

Do you regularly fill your prescriptions at a Target Pharmacy? Target recently announced that they will sell over 1,660 of their in-store pharmacies and clinic businesses to CVS Health and will be rebranded as CVS/minuteclinic. This means that all you Target customers will gain access to CVS Health Corporation’s pharmacy care programs and that the CVS ExtraCare program will be available at all pharmacy locations in Target stores.

Note that until the merge is complete, you can continue to use your REDcard at all registers to earn Target Pharmacy Rewards on eligible prescriptions. Go here for more details.

What are your thoughts on this change…please share!

I like Target pharmacy quite a bit better than CVS. I actually drive by two CVS stores on my way to Target, so I am a bit disappointed. πŸ˜•

  2. Cindy

Well, considering one of the few reasons I use Target Pharmacy now is for the 5% reward discount after every 5th refill, I don’t know if I’ll go anymore once that program is gone… That just seems weird, going into a Target but having the pharmacy be CVS.

    • mel

At CVS, you get $5 ECB for every 10 RX’s filled…. Will target stores accept the RX bucks on their store purchase?

    • Heather

$10 after 10 Rx is nothing compared to the 5% possibility after 5 Rx. Last Christmas I purchased an Xbox One and a PS4 and was able to score 5% off on top of 5% with the red card. I saved over $50 between the two while using only 1 Rx rewards coupon. I am very disappointed in this change. I have been disappointed multiple times by CVS with their high prices and catches and loop holes for sales and coupons. I always felt like they were misleading with sales just to get you in the store and then didn’t deliver. Guess I will be transferring to Walgreens πŸ˜₯

That is so sad. CVS is the worst pharmacy ever. They have a policy that states the pharmacist can pick and choose to fill your prescription. the techs are very uneducated and can’t read simple prescriptions.

    • Steph

Wow, I totally disagree. We have 4 prescriptions refilled every month and never have a problem. Even when the prescriptions are new they are filled just fine. Anyone I have ever come across working there is very nice.

      • mel

Ditto, my pharmacy is great! Everything is refilled properly and on time, and will call if there are any problems.

        • Lynn l

I agree with Steph and mel, my pharmacy experiences are generally great. And after every 10 prescriptions filled at CVS you get a $5 ecb! I’m happy for this.

    • Sam

I only fill prescriptions at CVS. The customer service is awesome and I love that they have any easy drive-thru pick up!

    • Lindak

Agreed. The techs can’t tell the difference between my son’s first and last names and can never find the prescriptions. It’s Krogers for me from now on.

    • Kim

Wow! I work for CVS Pharmacy as a technician and take a lot of offense to your comment. Just because you’ve had a bad experience at one store doesn’t mean all stores are that way. Our pharmacists cannot fill narcotics early BY LAW not by choice. If it’s a regular maintenance medication then it may just be too early to fill per your insurance. We have some of the most educated technicians in the business. CVS trains us all. Unlike other pharmacies who don’t even have enough money to put their techs through training. I’m sorry you’ve had such a bad experience. Maybe try another CVS store?

      • NEW

Every store is different, but the CVS stores in my area treat customers like cattle. They do have excellent locations though. CVS has bought up all of the local pharmacies now they are gob -bling up Target. I go to Target because their prices are better, the pharmacists are nicer and I like the 5 per cent discount. Way to go Target!

      • Joey

I know how CVS operates as I once was in the corporate offices. The training they provide is less than sufficient to do a good job on anything. They require you to obtain your own certification through an outside agency. They do not give tech training for their stores!!!! Also, Pharmacists at most CVS stores are having serious problems with the company requiring them to work numerous hours over time and other such things. So please don’t broadcast how wonderful and how much training the corporation provides you because it is false information! There is no internal training program for techs.

      • DR

My cvs pharmacist flat out refused to refill a valid zolpidem Rx. My doctor was trying out different types of meds for me so I also had a scrip for temazepam. Pharmacist said I shouldn’t be taking both at one time (I wasn’t!) and cancelled the refill, marking it as no refills remaining. I feel like I’ve been stolen from. Thanks CVS for thinking you know more than my doctor!

    • Happymama

Wow, I’m sorry to hear that you feel that. CVS is literally my son’s lifeline. When Kroger changed manufactures, my son lost seizure control. I learned quickly that he needed his medication from a certain manufacture. I called every pharmacy in the area and CVS was willing to order his medication when ever other ones said they couldn’t. They go above and beyond for us. I didn’t even know they give you $5 ecb for every 10 prescriptions.

      • Donna

It’s a program that you have to sign up for so be sure to inquire at your local CVS

    • Cindy

Totally LUV my CVS ..! They always go above and Beyond… ! Nicest employees..and always help with any issue we may have..! Switched to CVS from Walmart Pharmacy… Whom was a total pain in the rump..!
Have been nothing but SATISFIED and HAPPY to have CVS on our side..!

    • Becky

I use to be a CVS pharmacist and don’t really care for them but it’s not CVS policy that allows a pharmacist to “pick and choose which rxs to fill” but rather the laws of each state. As a licensed pharmacist in Georgia we have the right to refuse any prescription.

    • Casey

I just wanted to say that I am also offended by your comment. I am a pharmacist for CVS and a lot of people have no idea what actually goes on behind the pharmacy counter. Prescriptions are not just a “black and white” issue and there is a lot of work that goes into filling prescriptions, from the many many insurance issues to drugs not being stocked in certain stores. Stating that we have a policy where we get to pick and choose who we fill for is not correct. By FEDERAL LAW I get to pick and choose who I want to fill for and that is my right since it is my license and my 8 years of schooling on the line with every prescription I fill. Trust me we don’t want to upset customers anymore than you want to be upset but some things are just out of our hands and I think people need to realize that they are in charge of their health and if you need refills for a medication that is not normally stocked you need to let us know before the day you actually need it filled. Sorry for the rant, it just gets frustrating when you and your techs work hard and work 12-13 hour days and people still don’t understand. There will always be bad experiences but you should never group people as a whole.

    • Ann

All pharmacists have free rein do that, unfortunately. I loved my Target Pharmacy until its head pharmacist decided she didn’t want to keep selling me the same thing I’d been using (and buying there) for years.

  4. Nathalie

My husband and I switched from CVS Pharmacy to Target Pharmacy years ago because of the service that we were getting at CVS. Not happy about this change and will definitely miss the pharmacy rewards. That extra savings of 5% on top of the 5% red card will be missed.

    • debbie

Me too! And I have always appreciated Target’s liquid bottles with their spouts and the color coded bands for different family members. Gonna miss that pharmacy. Doubt I’ll try CVS. Sad.

  5. Cindy

I’m excited to hear this! A few years ago, our insurance company chose CVS as the ONLY store that we could purchase our medications from without paying an out of network fee. I was a Publix pharmacy girl as I liked to purchase groceries while waiting for prescriptions. πŸ™‚ Now that CVS will acquire Target pharmacies, I will be able to shop while waiting!
P.S. I cannot believe that someone has not tried to stop this merger…I feel as if CVS is becoming a monopoly in the pharmacy field. Just my thoughts on that!

    Have a great day!

    • Liz

I have CVS Caremark prescription coverage also and I hate that I can only get my maintenance meds filled at CVS. I used to go to Rite Aid because they would fill my scripts while I waited. CVS won’t do it faster than 2 hours, which is super annoying. I think this whole merger in itself is odd – to have CVS in a Target?? At least, I can probably get my meds at Target and shop around in the process – I do like that part. I haven’t been a fan since being forced to switch to CVS. Some people are really nice and some are really stressed out. I do feel that I’m treated differently with the meds that I receive; I never felt that way at Rite Aid. Hopefully this change is for the best!

      • Chris w

Are you sure? My insurance switched to Caremark last year and it’s not cvs only, just a cvs company. I use it at rite aid fine.

        • Mary Alice

We have CVS Caremark too and were told that some insurance plans have a maintenance clause that only allows for so many prescriptions to be filled outside CVS. I think that may be what Liz is referring to. Like you, Chris, we can get our prescriptions filled where we want, but my pharmacist made me aware of that clause and I called CVS Caremark to make sure that our plan didn’t have that. (Thankfully, it didn’t.) However, since being switched to CVS Caremark, we can only get 30-day supplies, not our prescribed 90-day unless we go through CVS’ mail order, which my husband and I are considering in order to save some money. So, I guess we may end up having to use CVS after all.

  6. Allyson

I’m disappointed as well. CVS is more expensive than Target. I prefer Target for their lower prices and I enjoy their creative prescription bottles. I wonder how this will affect things.

    • spedtch95

Yes good point. Their bottles and the colored bands per family member are a huge plus!

  7. Cindy

One more thought since reading the other replies…
CVS does reward you an extra $5 on 10 filled prescriptions. Not a lot but some thing at least!

  8. Edy

I like cvs pharmacy takes less time to get medicines ! Unlike walgreens they take forever to refill or get the medicines even thru the drive thru and they don’t answer their phone ! And target is too far

  9. Nl

    How strange

  10. Bridget

Not happy about the merge. I pay $4 for a prescription now at Target, that I have paid $10 for previously at CVS.

  11. jenny

is this a good thing for a cvs pharmacy person? is it bad for target people? i actually love the $5 extra bucks on every 10 medicines.
whats the benefit for either store?

    • Andrea

Target rewards you a 5% off any purchase discount after only 5 prescriptions or refills.

  12. SoxGirl1029

I think any time there’s less competition it’s a bad thing. This just gives people one less option for filling a prescription.

    • caran

I completely agree. It’s high school economics that more choices is ALMOST always better for the consumer and fewer choices is ALMOST always worse for the consumer.

  13. Gloria

Unfortunately Target has lost so many customers from their airing of their political views and from the data breach that they are now in extreme financial distress. Target announced earlier this year they need to reduce expenses by $2Billion dollars, this is just one step in that direction. I no longer shop Target because I don’t support any company that attempts to cram its political views down my throat.

  14. Patty

We had a bad experience at the Target pharmacy and left a long time ago, Walmart is our pharmacy of choice, excellent service!

    • I Love Shoes

Fortunately I do not have monthly prescriptions to fill. Target pharmacy was a much better way to get prescription incentives. Just last month Target offered double rewards for every prescription filled. If I’m not mistaken there is a cap on the number of prescription rewards you can earn at CVS. Prior to any rewards incentive I had extremely horrible experiences at a few CVS. One experience that really stuck out.. The automated system called indicating my prescription is ready for pickup. When I arrived I was told my insurance does not cover the medication. I went to another CVS a more knowledgeable tech explained that because I was over the age of 26 my insurance company requires additional paperwork for my acne medication. I went to that pharmacy for a while but switched to Target because I was able to obtain rewards faster. At least one per year. In a few months I will be starting the invitro process, so I will be shopping around for the best pharmacy rewards and other rewards program to cut the cost. I will probably look into filling future prescriptions at Costco, BJ’S, and Sam’s. Any suggestion, tips, and ways to cut cost on fertility medication will be greatly appreciated.

      • Kristen

Try Freedom Fertility, a mail-order pharmacy. They are knowledgeable, nice, and have fast shipping. Their med prices are on their website too.

  15. Anna

I don’t work for CVS or Target, but I am a pharmacist and I can tell you that we get a lot of CVS and Walgreens employees to try to get into our hospital. They have simply made the conditions of work extremely challenging with more requirements (vaccines, clinics etc) and less techs and quicker turn around times. It has become a “fast food” industry. I would never blame these pharmacies for lack of customer service with the working conditions and so many rude customers, sadly it leaves the employees unhappy as well.

If I had a lot of medications, I would develop a relationship with one of the private moms and pops pharmacies. They know you as a person and help to make sure you get the best regimen prescribed and help you cut down on cost by suggesting different drugs, since a lot of the doctors pick the most expensive and not necessarily the best drugs.

    • Heather

you know this is a really great idea that I may opt for. There is locally owned compound pharmacy a few blocks from my house that I had to use for a while to get my infants reflux meds and they worked to get me the best price on it as it was not covered by any insurance. They were always so nice and polite and would even call if the Rx wasn’t ready at the time promised so I wouldn’t waste a trip. I think this may be a great option for people

  16. caran

I live in a small town right outside Chapel Hill, NC and really appreciate our local pharmacy. They charge the same as other pharmacies, know who I am and provide free delivery service-even on Saturdays! Maybe this is a good time to look into a local pharmacy.

  17. Concernedmom

IMHO CVS is a scary place to fill prescriptions. They made an error on a narcotic pain prescription for my 3 year old son (he had broke his leg) the technician transcribed the amount incorrectly. It was suppose to be for 1.5ml and they put in for a teaspoon and a half!!! (7.5 ml) 5 times the amount prescribed. The pharmacist never picked up on the error even though there are safeties in place!! She just clicked right through all the safety screens. The kicker is they never ever asked my child weight which would have triggered this as an overdose and not let them continue.
I am a nurse and would not have know any better but I had peeked at the prescription before my husband dropped and it just did not seem right! This error could have KILLED my child if I have it to him!!!!
I always fill my RXS at Hannafords, they are awesome always double/triple checking weights/doses for pediatric patients!
So sorry I would never ever in a million years fill a prescription at CVS!!!

    • amy

Yea because all pharmacists aren’t human amd only cvs pharmacists make mistakes

      • Concernedmom

I understand people make mistakes but there were some safeties in place that were totally disregarded!!! A simple input of weight would have prevented this. It was not a tiny mistake, it was a huge one!! Would you be happy taking 5 or 10 pills instead of 1 or 2? It could have been a lethal dose, narcotics can depress respiratory system!!! A good pharmacist/pharmacy will check the pediatric dosage with weight and if it seems off double check with prescribing doctor!

Also if you had a similar experience I am sure you would not feel comfortable filling prescriptions there.

Oh yeah when I called to question prescription the offending pharmacist was just concerned with me bringing back RX so they could give a new label, and more importantly hide the mistake… trust me it was a big deal. It was on the news. I had spoken to regional manager of CVS more than once and the state Board was involved. So like I said IMHO I would never ever fill a prescription there.

        • Edie

Hide their mistake? They are required by law to fill out an incident report with the State Board of Pharmacy when something like that happens, they can’t just “hide” it.

Have you ever worked in a pharmacy? No. That much is clear. There is nowhere in the system to input a patient’s weight into a prescription on the pharmacy end that prompts anything to verify the weight to the dosage. Not on any system I’ve worked on, at least.

Yes, the technician made the error, it happens. But whoever went to get the prescription from the doctor and was told was his dosage would be should have been the one dropping and picking up the prescription from the pharmacy, so instead of going to the news and the state board and whatever other ridiculous steps you took when you found out it was typed up and dispensed with the wrong dosage instructions, you could have been alerted to the issue and had it fixed at the consultation from the pharmacist.

Totally understandable that you would not want to fill at that particular pharmacy after an instance like that. But don’t blame the entire chain.

          • Concernedmom

Actually Hannafords pharmacy always uses the child’s weight. Pediatric doses are based on weight!!!!! Clearly there are systems that can use the weight. We are talking about pediatric dosages where 1-2 MLS extra of an adult med can have tragic effects on said child…… as far as dropping off rx and picking up rx when you have a toddler in a soft long leg cast unable to sit comfortably in the car whatever parent is free is the one that goes to pick up rx not worrying about accuracy of prescription, sometimes you don’t even have rx in hand our pcp faxes prescriptions right to pharmacy…. and yes the pharmacist wanted me to come back in to print out a new label…. and the reasons why we did what we did was to get awareness to other parents!!!!! This is not the first time it happened, or the last!!

  18. Katie

Wow, CVS is really taking over! They also recently purchased Omnicare, a company that deals with pharmaceuticals for nursing homes.

  19. Katie

Also, it’s true what hip2savers are saying about the mom and pop pharmacies. My husband is a technician and when he worked at a mom and pop he told me even if someone had insurance but the price was still very high they would work with them and put them on the no insurance plan to lower their costs. He also several times hand delivered medicine off the clock on his way home from work for medicine that didn’t get out on time. But they didn’t give him any benefits! No health insurance and no paid time off :-/

  20. Kris

I prefer Target. My husband is diabetic and takes many medicines/injections. I also work in the medical field so I have experience with both. My experience with Target has been stellar. I drive past several CVS locations to get to the Target pharmacy. My professional experience with CVS is not so great. Could be just our locations?? Guess they forgot to ask my opinion πŸ˜‰

  21. Vee

I love my Target pharmacy team. They are fast and accurate. I get greeted by them even if I’m just passing down that aisle. Does anyone know if they plan to keep the current Target employees??

    • Serena

Yes they are keeping all pharmacists and technicians, but joe cashiers. My husband is a pharmacist with target and is not happy about the change.

      • Serena

        Oops I meant not cashiers

    • karen

All pharmacy team members will be required to apply with CVS once the merger starts, so some may not be kept.

      • Serena

That is not true, my husband is a pharmacist at target and all employees will be kept, except the cashiers, they will keep all pharmacists and pharmacy techs, cashiers will be moved to other parts of target. They of course said they expect employees to have the same performance standards.

        • Karen

Interesting Serena as I also work for Target and this is what we were told on Tuesday

  22. Erika

My Target pharmacy requires I state my name, birthdate, and address out loud when I pick up prescriptions. It is totally ridiculous when they can just see my license. I switched and let them know why.

    • Mar

All pharmacies do that, not just Target. It’s required that you speak it because 1. It proves that you that you are legit because you can speak personal info. from memory and 2. For all they know you could have picked up somebody else’s drivers license or prescription so it’s to prevent drug abuse. If you request, you can write down your personal info. On a piece of paper and show them and explain why you do not wish to say it out loud and they will understand.

    • Edie

It’s a safety precaution to make sure they are dispensing the right medications to the right patients. You would be surprised how many people have similar names and similar birthdays.

  23. Irene

Google the full story. Less competition could mean higher prices. With Walgreens and CVS dominating the Pharmacy world, consumers would have no choice but to stick with them. This is thanks to Obamacare.

    • ellen

sorry, obamacare has nothing to do with this. You’re pointing fingers at the wrong person for this issue.

      • Laura

Obsmacare seems to get blamed by anyone who is republican and not happy with a situation

        • Laura

          Obamacare^

          • ellen

obamacare just caused that typo, Laura…

            • jane

              This made me smile; )

      • Lynne

Target pharmacies helped drive overall sales at the chain but lost money, as the government healthcare program known as Obamacare expanded ranks of insured and increased pressure on cost,”Β
        https://www.businessinsider.com/what-cvs-buying-target-pharmacy-means-for-prices-2015-6

I’m sad. πŸ™ CvS is known to be one of the most expensive pharmacies. A simple Google search will provide many articles and consumer reports that confirm this. In my own personal experience, generics have been at least double the cost.

        • spedtch95

Two of our generics were cheaper at CVS but I was shocked when I transferred to Walgreens today some of them were completely FREE! I guess you need to call around on every prescription to multiple pharmacies. Not that I love driving to 2-3 locations but it may save money.

  24. Melissa

If anyone has a Meijer in their area they have awesome pharmacy rewards. After the 5th prescription filled you get $10 in mperks to spend which is basically just cash. They also have alot of drugs that are free like antibiotics and lipitor type prescriptions.

    • Laura

      Love Meijer πŸ˜ƒ

    • kismetkitty

I love Meijer pharmacy too. You can earn the mPerks pharmacy credits (5 RX’s gets you $10) even on the free RX’s. CVS filled an RX for me with two pills in the bottle that were obviously different from the other 28. When I took it back to show them, they said I must have mixed my pills with a family member but no one I know took that medicine. They wouldn’t admit their mistake. And once they gave me someone else’s RX, wrong name on the bottle and all. Had to take that back too. No more CVS for me.

  25. ellen

I love my pharmacy team at Target. Fast, knowledgeable, and efficient. Never any complaints there. Our insurance recently switched and now we have to use CVS. We don’t fill many prescriptions AT ALL, but we’ve used them three times since the switch and have issues with service every single time. Nothing serious– just horrendous waits, the staff saying they are understaffed and can’t handle their volume, and then one issue where they lost a prescription that had been called into voicemail. I agree it’s totally a store-by-store deal in terms of service, and I’m seriously considering trying a different CVS just to avoid the one nearest me in the future since our experiences have been so shady.

  26. Kamee

This is so disappointing. I love my target pharmacy. I hope they don’t change too much. If so, I will have to look for a new pharmacy. Never really been a fan of cvs.

  27. spedtch95

I had a bad experience at one CVS where a pharmacist basically played doctor. I switched CVS stores. New store had a bad fill in pharmacist and I just ignored it. Last week, I had talked to a pharmacist I truly admire at my store and clarified issues with some needed meds for the hubby who was coming out of spinal surgery the next day. Less than 24 hrs later, I come back to the pharmacy but its the head pharmacist and he yells at me and ignores everything I had already discussed with the “good” pharmacist there. I was actually at Target transferring ALL of my prescriptions from that CVS to Target when my husband texted me with info about this acquisition. I immediately left Target (which I also did like, better service, better prices, saved a friend from a med that would have killed her unborn child), because now it would be giving my business back to CVS. Today I moved all of my RX’s to Walgreens. I’m past caring about the $5 ECBs for 10 prescriptions. Seeing my husband in pain post surgery and getting yelled at by a CVS Pharmacist when I did nothing wrong pretty much ended my love affair with CVS Pharmacy. Having worked at another retail pharmacy for 11 yrs, I know CVS cuts hours and cuts corners and the pharmacist I liked admitting its getting really bad. Sadly, the acquisition of Target Pharmacy has now slimmed down the competition but I’m glad there is still Walgreens and private independently owned pharmacies. And for those wondering, yes, I called corporate today on the incredibly rude pharmacist.

  28. Sara

Let’s just remember: pharmacists are people too!!

    • spedtch95

And so are people who just came out of very serious spinal surgery and are belittled by those pharmacists when trying to get their medication a neurosurgeon prescribed. Hence why I reported the pharmacist.

  29. Dawn

Boo! I love my Target pharmacy team. They are always courteous, polite, and helpful. The prescription is always ready when they say it’s ready…..there’s even an alert on my mobile phone to say so. Thankfully, there are many other options for our family nearby. Sorry CVS!

    • debbie

i like the mobile notification too!

      • mel

CVS has mobile notifications for pickup. I even get a reminder when it’s close to needing a refill.

  30. Heather

Hmm how will this affect me? Last year our insurance changed to only be accepted at Target and Walmart. We got dozens of letters from CVS stating our insurance was no longer good there. Guess I have to go to Walmart now…

  31. Megan

It sucks the way that target handled this news. None of the pharmacists or techs, at least in our local store, we’re told about this before it was put put to the public all over the news. Though, I saw some comments saying all the pharmacy employees were being kept, the tee hs in our store told a different story. They were all told they’re haven’t gotten any word on if they will be keeping the techs or if CVS will be bringing in their own techs with all their own training and certifications. We don’t have many, but I transferred all our prescriptions to target years ago and now I guess I will be transferring them back to a local pharmacy. It was really nice to be able to use the red card for the extra 5% and getting the pharmacy rewards to use almost anywhere in the store.

  32. Carolyn

This is horrible….CVS Caremark is a prescription-drug monopoly!!! I can’t believe Target sold out and the FTC allowed this merge to happen! So sad these big chains are trying to take business away and private pharmacies are closing. I love going to my local pharmacist so personable…prices are the same too! I support my town and small businesses it’s important for the community!

  33. Ashley

I love CVS. It has saved us $250 a month on perscription costs and mails us our meds at no extra cost every month, our meds we take on a regular occasion that is. When I do have to visit our local CVS they are nice & helpful and always offer to put my meds on automatic refill and answer any questions.

  34. Laura

I have found that CVS pharmacy is at least 25% more expensive than any other pharmacy. I guess I’ll be going to Costco, Walmart or Meijer.

    • Kenneth

Not true, monopoly means only they are only choice….here alone we have rite aid, Walgreen’s, CVS, Meijer, Sam’s club, Walmart, discount drug Mart, Target and Kroger… Not to mention numerous private pharmacies and this is not in a major metropolitan area. Good for CVS for staying one step ahead of the competition! If it wasn’t them it would’ve been another chain.

  35. Kit

I called around for pricing on a Rx. CVS was the most expensive, cost $15 more! Here’s what I found from most expensive to the least expensive: CVS, Walgreens, Target, Walmart, Sam’s Club.

    • mel

They’re not giving you the copay price, as everyone has different insurance plans. If you pay 100% OOP, THAT is the price they’re giving you. My sister had called around for medication for her son, Walgreens was the “cheapest”, however when she filled it, it was double the amount. She was floored. Transferred over to Target, where it was less than the quoted price she was given at Walgreens. I made the mistake of transferring my husbands RX’s over to Rite Aid (from CVS) last summer, and they were almost $5-$20 more. I transferred them right back to CVS the next month!

      • Kit

Fyi: When I called for Rx pricing it did not involve insurance.

        • mel

Gotcha! It just amazes me the difference between the pharmacies, even WITH insurance!!

  36. Lenny

I love my target pharmacy, i guess i am switching to costco now

  37. TAC

I’m not happy about this change. I switched to Target because I was not happy with CVS. I guess I will have to look for another pharmacy.

This sucks. Love our Target pharmacist. If he leaves, we will switch to HyVee or Costco.

I will not like the change πŸ™ cvs is always more expensive for the same scripts I get at target. Plus for my little guys target gives you a special top that a syringe fits in and cvs doesn’t….. It’s hard getting in the bottle without that special top!!

CVS does the same with my son’s liquid medication. It is wrapped in plastic the little round top that fits inside the bottle along with the syringe. If they don’t put it in, I just ask, and the pharmacist gives me one. Sure does make dispensing easier!

This truly upsets me. I fill all of my prescriptions in Target and I love my pharmacist. I also enjoy getting the pharmacy rewards and having that linked to my red card. I despise CVS so this super sucks for me. Now I have to start a new search for another pharmacy once the transition happens. Publix maybe I dunno because Target was the hands down best for me and my needs.

Maybe cosco or Sams club? I dunno I will definitely miss target

I am sorry that cvs has purchased the Target pharmacies. I have United Healthcare insurance (with medicare part D drug coverage) that has a Super Saver program which offers substantial savings on many generic drugs. As a senior citizen, I take a number of maintenance medications and the the Super Saver program saves me money every month. CVS does not honor this program which means that these drugs will cost a lot more if I stay. I am planning to shop around for my drugs which means that my prescriptions will be spread among several pharmacies that honor Super Saver. I priced one medication that I can buy 90 days supply for $6.00 with Super Saver and $10.00 for cash at Target, that would cost $16.00 for 30 days for cash at CVS, with Medicare charges of $10.00 for 30 days. There is no reason to purchase generic medications at CVS. I wish there was some price control so that CVS would not gouge people.

The United Healthcare program I discussed above is “Pharmacy Saver”, not ” Super Saver.”

I loved Target Pharmacy and their Up and Up products which will be replaced with CVS’s overpriced inferior brand products. In addition, I always got great service from them. The few times I’ve ever used CVS, I’ve waited no less than 25 minutes for service! Sigh…..I’ll have to switch pharmacies again once they take over.
I don’t know how CVS stays in business with their overpriced crap “CVS” products, limited drug choices, terrible customer service and most prescriptions twice the cost of what I can get them at Costco, WalMart and currently Target – but I guess little by little they can buy up that competition too so they will be the only kid on the block so that nobody will have a choice!
Can’t believe the number of complaints by employees as well as customers when I goggled “CVS sucks”.

I think we should all move out prescriptions to RiteAid so that Target can get the hint that changing to CVS was a mistake!!! I still used my Red Card to make a purchase at the pharmacy even though “they” are not Target… Why??? If they aren’t going to honor the 5% discount why on earth would they accept the red Card as a form of payment??? I’m moving all out prescriptions, moving my parents, and will be having my friends all move them. No point in using them anymore… Lame Target!!! You’re going to have a backlash of people not agreeing with this!!! You’d think Target would be smarter than this???
