Sonic does weird things with their pricing. I took my kids there this past Saturday for half priced shakes. The master shakes cost $3.29 on the menu and it listed all of the shakes that were considered master shake. But when I got my receipt they charged me 30 cents for each add in. That wasn’t an add in. For instance it listed a caramel oreo shake, but then charged me an extra 60 cents!

We found out the hard way, too! The shake itself is half-price, but the add-ins are not.

My husband asked the staff and found out that (our our local location anyway) there were maybe 5 flavors that were “basic,” i.e., without surcharges for add-ins. Fresh banana was one of them… weird, because it contains actual banana which totally sounds like a somewhat costly add-in. if I remember, the other free flavors were vanilla (of course), one of the chocolate flavors, peanut butter, and, sorry, I’m not remembering the last one. Maybe caramel? Anyway, ask before ordering to avoid the surprise surcharges.

The website distinguishes “real ice cream shakes” from “master shakes.” The latter category requires multiple add-ins to get the flavor combination.
