Beautiful Quote

I received the following email from reader, Mallory, and after reading it… well, I knew that I just had to share it with all of you:

Hi, Collin! I hope you are having a wonderful day. I wanted to share my experience today at Target with you. I am loving the 50% off cartwheel deals and I will secretly admit that I check my phone in the wee hours while feeding my newborn just to see the daily deal. 😉 Today, I gathered my kids in the pouring rain to go get the Thomas master set.

When arriving to the toy section, I was looking over all of the train sets when a Target associate along with a Lady and her adorable grandson (he looked about 3 years old) showed up. Right when they arrived, I found the train set. Unfortunately, only one was available. I told the lady that she could have the set. She said that I was there first and to take it. Instead of taking it, I insisted that she should have it. The lady was so taken back that tears started flowing down her cheeks as she just kept saying thank you. I could only picture that sweet little boy getting an amazing toy for Christmas.

I was so taken back by her response that my eyes actually filled with tears. My children will never miss that toy and the thought of making some stranger’s day/ Christmas is better than any gift. I just wanted to thank you for posting such great deals. Today was the best deal EVER!!! Truly, giving is so much better than receiving! I can only imagine how many people’s lives you have touched in this very way. I am sure that so many people have limited incomes and think that they are unable to give their children what they really want. Because of your helpful tips and posts of great deals, many people are able to bless others.

With that, let’s continue to spread kindness… <3

I had a few tears in my eyes reading this. What a great reminder to slow down, pay attention to what’s going on around us, and appreciate the small things. Scoring a great deal can be a rush but paying it forward is even better. Happy holidays everyone!

How sweet! Thanks for sharing, Collin. I hope this Christmas season is filled with lots of love and generosity spread by others because after all Christmas is about the birth of the One who gave it all.

This story is so sweet and so are the wonderful comments by the readers. Thanks Collin for helping so many families, mine included, live a bit more frugally. Thanks also for promoting the spirit of giving and loving. Thanks Mallory for setting a great example for others. Blessings to all!

You know what I love most about stories like these, is the connectedness to others. You, a stranger, are now a part of someone else’s story. You are tied now to a happy memory that will not be forgotten. That is so cool to me…..these ‘random’ chances we get to change the trajectory of someone’s day. Love it!

    Love this! <3

Beautiful story! It is so nice to know there are sweet people like you out there. Sometimes I feel like people see me and other couponers as cheap or greedy, but the opposite is actually true. We are a caring bunch who try to be fiscally responsible when shopping for our families, but we are also generous to others!

Last week I went to Target. As I was getting in my van there was an elderly lady in the car next to me who couldn’t get her legs into her car due to knee problems. I am a very cautious person so I made sure that the situation was safe before helping. I never thought I would help a stranger put their legs in a car but she was so appreciative! It felt so good to help someone. We must have looked like a funny pair in that parking lot because I am 7 mo. Pregnant with baby #4 and carry large. I probably looked like I needed help too! Lol!

Leaving a toy on a shelf in a store while kind doesn’t not compare to the truly selfless acts shared in the comment section today. Kudos to you J.

Why compare acts of kindness as to which is more kind. I’ve read plenty of beautiful stories this morning in a range of scenarios. ALL of them are worth mentioning and warm my heart. Thanks everyone for sharing.

        • dealzgurl

I agree with Courtney. You truly never know what people are going through or how much an act of kindness means to them. That simple act of kindness by Mallory clearly made a big difference to the recipient because she started to cry…that speaks volumes to me.

    Sweet story!

  11. Patty

    I love this story.
Every year I host a Santa party for the people at the home where my disabled daughter lives. They don’t all have family so the gifts they receive at the party mean a lot to them.
With your help I will certainly be able to stretch our dollars so much further.
    Thanks for all you do

This is a lovely story, Collin! The tears of sheer gratitude from the lady with the grandchild, and the tears of joy for kindness and compassion from your reader are wonderful reminders of what life should be about. What a wonderful story that made me tear up!!! I am truly thankful for these deals that’s you post also, it really makes it possible to get some savings in where I can. The struggle of trying to provide especially around this time of year is so real. Thanks for sharing this kind story, what a blessing Mallory was to that women! Your children should be so proud!!

because of all your amazing deals-I am always able to donate extra food and personal care items to the poor box at church. These items are given to the soup kitchen visitors or crisis pregnancy woman. We are a single income family because I stay home-but because of ️coupons and deals, I am still able to bless others!

  22. Heather

Imagine if we were able to have an idea of how many people Colin has helped over the years. Even this story wouldn’t have existed without Colin posting the deal. It all starts here. Thank you for helping me and all the othersame find the best deals and make the best Christmas for our children!

  23. Suzanne H

It’s so nice to hear a story about people blessing each other rather than people grabbing/fighting/pushing to get items during Black Friday. I used to love Black Friday – people would stand out in the cold together chatting and talking about their Xmas plans, someone would make a coffee run and people got revved up but didn’t go crazy when the doors opened. But that all seemed to change in the last 4-5 years – maybe due to the bad economy and people feeling a little more desperate? – I don’t know. I’ve given up BF shopping and I miss it but it’s just not worth the insanity.

  24. Lisa

Oh my goodness. I teared up reading this too. That is the true spirit of Christmas! I know we get too anxious to find that great deal. But, this lady has the right perspective. Thanks for sharing!!!

  25. Sara gedeon

What an amazing person if only everybody could be like that .😆😇

  26. Alea

I love this!! I love doing random acts of kindness for other people – it’s amazing how many things we can do for others that cost us no money but fills our heart with SO much love. ☺☺☺

  27. Renee

How thoughtful and unselfish…also when purchasing gifts this year, please remember the elderly and those who are single with no children. No kind act goes unnoticed.

  28. Liz

I LOVE this more than I can say. ♡
Thank you so much Mallory for sharing this beautiful story with us! You are such a blessing to not only that precious lady, but to the other lives that will now be touched by us readers who you’ve inspired to go out and do the same! This also brought tears to my eyes. I was speaking with my Mom about this very subject yesterday — and ironically, we’ve both found ways to bless strangers this week and were able to share our stories with each other. My heart is still filled with so much joy I can’t even tell you. Cloud 9 ! There is NOTHING like giving and being a blessing to others. And to Collin, wow — Mallory is right-on in saying that you have touched COUNTLESS lives through HIP2SAVE! I know I am personally so grateful for you and everyone who has helped make what you do possible! I have saved hundreds and hundreds of dollars PLUS over the past couple of years, and I have had the privilege of telling many other how I do it. You’re awesome! Truly. Sending you a HUGE thank you for all that you do!! 🙂

  29. Liz

What a wonderful story! ☺It warmed my heart. Thank you for sharing.
