Of course, pie face. And a can of whipped cream for the stocking!

    • SRN

My daughter is getting Fashion Plates too. Can’t wait for her to love them as much as I did 25 years ago!!!

      • Paul

I have been thinking about Fashion Plates, for years. When I was a kid, every girl seemed to have them, and I have wondered why I don’t see them anymore. I would love to buy some, for my nieces. But, $30 seems a bit expensive. Do they happen to sell a non-deluxe version of Fashion Plates? Just the plates, no carrying case and I supply my own colored pencils – LOL

        • Laura

I’ve seen a version of them at Target by Melissa & Doug, not sure of the cost, but you might check there. Hth

  2. mochi

My 1y baby loves her Hape turtle pull toy. We got during Target toy clearance in July for $4.99. Very nice quality, light & well painted! Highly recommended;-0)

  3. Lexy

Any tips for gift wrapping??? I’m just like am I really going to buy paper that’s going to ended up crushed and trashed?

    • Maria M

Use the comic strips from your Sunday paper! I get multiple copies because of coupons, but you can buy them at the Dollar Tree if you don’t have them delivered!

    • Sara

Dollar Tree- large rolls for just a buck. I buy paper after Christmas when it’s 75-90% off.

      • Karen

After Christmas is definitely the way to go! I buy the thick high quality rolls from Target or Joann’s on clearance for $.50 give or take and then just stash them aside for next year.

    • Stephanie

Costco! Its a GIANT roll…lasts me three years!

    • Angela

I buy when it’s super discounted after Christmas

    • Laura

Dollar Tree has craft paper and you get a ton on a roll (a lot more than wrapping paper). I also got a stamp in the clearance section at Hobby Lobby that said ‘don’t open till Dec 25’ & just stamped it all over.

      • Amanda

I love the stamp idea! I have a bunch of kraft paper I bought on clearance last year and was thinking it was plain looking. Thank you for sharing!

        • cherryluva

right! I found an idea on Pinterest where you buy plain rolls of papers then create some sort of shape out of a potato or whatever else you have on hand and dip it in paint and have your kids stamp all over the paper to create your own wrapping paper AND it gives the kids something to do.

    • melissa

Try some local printers. I got a huge end roll of newsprint free. It’s plain white so i tied on fun bows and used letter stamps to stamp the recipient’s make on the gift.

  4. Emily

Can any one tell me a toy gift for 7yr old under $10 for my friend son.

    • Ashley

Walgreens has good toys for a 7 year old for under $10.

    • Angela

Legos are always a hit. My friend’s son is 6.5 and loves the Lego pirates series. They make some nice little sets for under $10

    • Heather N

Legos, minecraft, clothes? There are some neat ideas on pinterest on how to give money on pinterest too.

  5. Lauren, PA

    These are GREAT suggestions!!

  6. Sara

Great list! My girls got fashion plates last year and love them! I love that I get to share a part of my childhood with them! Spirograph & Lincoln logs are under the tree this year.

  7. Amy

I highly recommend spot it. It’s a quick, simple game and fun for the whole family. It says 7 and up, but my kids started playing around 5.

    • Stephanie

Agree! There are several different varieties and the game works on great skills. My 3 yo and I play while waiting for appointments and such. She loves finding the matches on all the cards – not just hers. She’s pretty good too! We only modify it a little – I wait 5-10 seconds and then find hers (without saying anything) and then find mine. It gives her a little extra time. Plus it’s fun for adults. My husband and I are pretty competitive… I HIGHLY recommend this gift.

  8. Anna

Also wondering if anyone has thoughts for a friend’s 5yr old boy- bday Saturday. I have 3 little girls- no clue about boys!

    • vmm

      price range?

personally I’d stay away from anything super hero or the creepy looking stuff cause many of us don’t go for that stuff.

I’d say a small lego set or something minion related are the best bets right now.
or snowball makers/snow block makers – super cool and gets them active!

my 4 yr old son got a wood trebuchet for his birthday(think “pumpkin chunkin”) he loves loves loves it! I was very impressed by that gift. not sure of price but since I don’t know your target price I thought I’d throw it out there. oh and he also got a suction cup bow/arrow set that is pretty sweet.

good luck. I have a boy and a girl. boys are way tougher I think.

    • Angela

Lego Jr. They are the regular little Lego pieces but slightly easier kits to put together.

    • Rim

I always get something to use after 1 or 2 yrs of their current age when it comes gifting someone. I prefer the same for my kids. Reason being they might have got the same for that age OR play toys of advanced age. Otherwise go for a gift card.

  9. katie

Collin I really need help with secret santa/dirt santa gifts that have to be gender neutral and around $5.

    • Esther

Redbox has gift cards. A little redbox gift card anyone would probably like.

      • cherryluva

great idea! buy a 1$ theatre box of candy with a microwave bag of popcorn and put it all together….Pinterest has cute sayings to go along with the gift.

    • Vick

I just went to one and someone got a farting ornament and our price is under $10. Big hit with the guys, me and my fellow moms of little boys just rolled our eyes since everything is a fart or a poop joke at that age. Lol

  10. vmm

ooh, I just saw & purchased the AMerican Girl McKenna dvd is only $4 at target.com! woot woot!
a very cute movie. kiddos love it

  11. Car

Michaels has a 40% off coupon that can be used on any nonsale toy. I use this all the time to pick up a some stocking stuffers. I bought a light up minion for $1.50. My sister used hers for some art kit for her kid. Great way to make your own sale. If you have time u can go back another time of day to use the coupon again.

  12. Johnpaul Soto

If anyone is Amazon Prime Now eligible they are offering two great deals which are stack-able. Using promo codes 10PRIMENOW and 12PACKNOW entitles you to a $10 0ff $10 purchase and a free 12 pack of soda. I ordered mine earlier today and within 2 hours both items arrived.

    • Anu1c.

What can you order using this promo code?

    • Diane

      Johnpaul,
My daughter has been using Amazon Now. i will let her know thanks.

    • Johnpaul Soto

Not sure the limitations to the $10 off $10 but I purchased a playmobil toy for my daughter.

      • Anu1c.

I tried couple of items and the code did not work. I’m trying to find online what the restrictions are. But no luck so far.

  13. Teri

I have boys. With my 3 yo I can get away with under $30 but most everything on my 5 yo’s list is crazy expensive like $50 up (mostly robot dinosaur toys).

  14. Sara

    Great list!

Snap Circuits are fun. I grabbed the Spot It today.

If you have younger kids the Richard Scary Airport game on Amazon today for $12.75 is a great game. My littles have loved it. Zingo is a good one too.

  15. Erin

Target has Spirograph for $14.99-$24.99. Also, they have fashion plates for $20. They have extra plates for $8.99 as well.

  16. Angela

Thanks! It’s hard to find games that everyone can play and enjoy given the age differences. This spot it game looks amazing!

  17. Kelly

Amazon has the fashion plates deluxe for $24.99
