Graduation Hat Jar (Graduation Gift Idea)
Are you attending a graduation party?
If so, check out this easy and thoughtful way to give little cash “diplomas” via a cute graduation hat mason jar! And the best part – you likely already have most of the items you need for this craft at home.
For this craft you’ll need:
- mason jar
- one piece of square shaped cardstock paper larger than the lid
- rectangle shaped cardstock paper long enough to fit around rim of lid
- double sided tape or glue
- crepe paper (streamers) for tassel
- one small button
- string or twine
- scissors
- money for mini diplomas
- curling ribbon
- gold coin chocolates (optional)
Directions:
1.) Tape or glue paper to top and sides of lid.
2.) To make tassel, wrap crepe paper around a pen, and tape end.
3.) Slide tassel off pen and tie a tight knot towards the top, leaving a two inch piece of string attached. Use scissors to cut tassel ends.
3.) Attach string to button and glue or tape to middle of the hat.
4.) Use a pen to roll paper money “diplomas”, securing with curling ribbon. Place gold coins and money in the jar and screw on the graduation hat lid.
How cute to give to a deserving graduate!
My version was inspired by NoBiggie.net.
Love this idea! Just no graduates yet
Lol I was thinking the same
So cute! The hat and string colors can coordinate to the school colors. I love this idea! Thanks for sharing.
I know – so cute! You’re welcome!๐
These are so cute! My high school senior is making these jars for her friends, and will take them to grad parties in a few weeks. Her school colors are purple/white, so I picked up the purple Mason jars when they were posted as a deal on Amazon. She is rolling up $1 bills for diplomas, and she is using Smarties Candy Money in the jars. The Smarties Candy Money is available on Amazon, and they look like small coins.
That’s so great! Thanks Sheila
Perfect! I know just the senior to give this to!
Love this! Both of my sister’s graduate this spring, one from hs and one college. I think I’ll use this idea at least for decorations!
Oh fun! Great idea
Ill graduate in 2 weeks๐, I wont have enough time to make some for my friends ๐ฉ
I really love it!
Maybe in 2 yrs for my brother high school graduation ๐ ๐
I made these last year and the grads I gave them too loved them and thought they were the coolest/cutest thing ever! Pair them with a candy lei (use Saran Wrap) and it’s candy and money, the perfect gift!! Especially for the guys ๐
Ps! I used embroidery floss instead of crepe paper and it looked perfectly perfect like a real mini tassel!
Yeah. A big hit with guys especially. Gave my son candy Lei and he ate a lot of it on way home after graduation
Made this for our kid’s babysitter who graduated from high school. She lover it!
I’m so doing this! Thanks for posting!
Pharmacy school is a pita and I hope this semester is over already
I made this last year after seeing in on this site. It was for my neighbor’s son. I used a twenty dollar bill and fifteen one dollar bills… for 2015. He seemed to really appreciate it. My little ones helped to make it. They can’t wait to graduate and get one of their own! Thanks you Collin for such a great site!!
Love it. Thank you for great idea.
Thanks!
Love this! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Lissa!
You could add come of the Presidential “dollar” coins along with the your 5’s, and 10’s, and 20 dollar bills. Could get pricey. But so adorable. I will be doing this for my son. He just graduated from college. I’m so proud of him. Two college graduates and two to go in about five years.
I cannot believe my baby is going to be a Sr already! Class of 2020!! I’m glad this showed up b/c I’m going to start saving dollars for his jar. Who knows how much will be in it by time next May rolls around!
I made this for my nieces grad party a few years ago. I also put some blank colored paper and gel pens with the ribbons for people to put messages, quotes and words of wisdom in as well as money. She really liked it. And the guests also liked it. It was full of notes and money by the end of the party.
