Walmart: No More Price Matching At 500 Stores (Starting June 9th)
Attention Walmart shoppers! Effective June 9th or possibly sooner in some areas, Walmart will be ending their Price Matching Program at over 500 stores and instead will be implementing long-term price rollbacks on thousands of items. For more information, check out this article published by Business Insider.
Walmart is hoping more customers will now be encouraged to use the Savings Catcher App, a tool that scans your Walmart receipts and compares the prices you paid at Walmart to the prices advertised for the same items elsewhere in your area. If the app finds a lower advertised price, Walmart will issue a gift card in the amount of the difference.
I price match every week and hope they don’t stop matching at my local store. My local one can sometimes be difficult – not wanting to match certain things (I always take my ads along to make the matching easier and faster). The Savings Catcher does not ‘catch’ the prices of some of the smaller stores in the area. If mine stops price matching I will be shopping more elsewhere. I saved $3 on a 24 pk of Coke alone yesterday by price matching and I got two (and that’s just one of the items I matched). I think they will lose a lot of business by doing this.
Older folks, do not have a clue about apps & are on limited incomes. Doubt Savings Catcher will save $$. Originally “Grocery Match Ads” pricing was suppose to auto change at register/store computer to save others without ads. Surprised if you are a single mother, saving $$ from a strangers earlier purchases. Meats were not included unless nationwide brands, Tyson, Butterball, Owen’s etc.. & should not have been expected. Original commercials, should have been more clear. If my store is not a “Savings Catcher” store, not finding out until check out would tick me off. My suggestion was to arrange $$ matching fresh fruit & vegetables in one area where all customers could take advantage. Word of mouth alone would redirect customers for other items than groceries. 1 person knows at least 200 people & those 200 goes on & on. Until recently, last visit to my local store was 3 years ago.
After reading some of the comments, I think we have to be a little more realistic. Walmart is a billion dollar company who obviously sat down and figured it would not miss the handful of people upset over a price matching people vs. whatever money it thought it was losing by price matching in those select stores. I expect price matching to be eliminated all together and no Walmart will not miss the fraction of 1% of the people who never ever go there again. It’s just reality.
Walmart does not make it’s money off people who come in to pricematch rather than go to Winn Dixie. They make money off the people who want one stop shopping and blindly toss things into their carts as they realize they need them. Most people do not even realize Walmart is not even close to be the cheapest option, they just think it and that’s all that matters to Walmart.
I think it’s really crazy because I ad match some people don’t have the capability to use the savings catcher
Our store has done the roll back stuff and a few days to weeks later the prices increased to more than what they were to start out with. This is just another thing so wal-mart can use their customers for more gain. Shame on you wal-mart.
This is why Dollar General is an up coming growing store for so many who bargain shop for the best deal. Walmart has become out dated due to rude workers and removing price matching.
Yes I have a comment to make about this very disappointed I used to go to Walmart for my One-Stop shopping for everything instead of going to other stores and some of Walmart’s prices are higher so I won’t be doing the bulk of my shopping there which I think financially is a bad decision for them.
I can’t wait I really hope this happens at the one I work at. People just lie about the prices anyway!!!
Holly
Yours is not a good attitude. Retail my not be your chosen field. For everyone that doesn’t use price matching correctly there are hundreds that do. My wife and I worked between us for 38 years at WALMART and there are tons of great customers..
Price matching is too time consuming. It creates long lines at checkout. I have seen some ‘welfare recipient’ haggling over prices on each items. B—-, if you can’t afford it…stay home! And yes, I believe people…especially religious peoples take advantage of lying about price matches. Best to take away price matches. If you are can’t afford items at one store…then go to the other stores for better prices. Bottom line, every retail stores need to make profit…that is how the economy works. So deal with it, all you so call ‘bargain hunters’. What’s next…pulling out your ‘time consuming’ coupons? Actually, they should make a separate one checkout lanes for those hagglers and coupon users…with a long a– line.
I guess about all I can say is, you need to deal with it. If a customer has coupons then guess what, they are in line in front of you. Kindness in attitude can go a long way. Sam waltons sayings were great and years ago it was on all name badges..the most important customer is the one in front of you.
I agree with Casey Had a fight with a customer who was price matching for over 30 min and no manager came over to see what was taking so long. Either stop it or set up a special area for the price matching peeps and let them all stand in line for hours.
I am honestly surprised by Holly and Casey’s response. Come on. If you do not to find extra help saving money then why are you poking around this site. My store is still price matching thank goodness.
So Excited for this change to take place:) Walmart Stays up to date with future technologies, and is making a new, and proactive changes. If some people don’t have access/ refuse to use the savings catcher, oh well. Walmart is proactive, and the leading competitor in the world for a reason. They don’t stay stuck in the past. So, for those of us who don’t like the changes, and refuse to shop there. Okay… wlamart is a multi billion dollar company. They won’t miss you much.
I think they will lose my business.
There’s no need for me to go there, the way I have in the past.
What’s the incentive?
