Yeti Vs. Ozark Tumbler Test Hip2Save.com

Have you been curious how the popular Yeti brand insulated tumbler compares to the much less expensive brand Ozark Trail? Both can be filled with 30 ounces of liquid, are made with stainless steel, are BPA Free, and can keep drinks HOT or COLD for hours! They happen to look extremely similar as well.

I was wondering how long they could keep ice for and how they compared in performance to each other, so the following are the results of my very casual and unscientific Yeti Vs. Ozark Tumbler Challenge! I started by filling each cup with 15 ice cubes, set them in my kitchen with the lids on,  and started the clock.

4 Hour Results- There was no noticeable difference or any results to give.

8 Hour Results- I was able to pour about the same amount of liquid out of both cups, just under 1/4 cup each. Both still had lots of ice.

How does Yeti Compare to Ozark Tumblers Hip2Save.com

24 Hour Results- Ice seemed to be melting the same, and water levels were pretty much the same at 3/4 cup each.

Comparison of Yeti Vs. Ozark Hip2Save.com

31 Hour Results- Water was still cold! Also, the ice in the Yeti tumbler completely melted, while the Ozark had a teeny tiny bit of ice left.

Final Results of the Tumbler Challenge

The less expensive Ozark Trails Tumbler was declared the winner of my very casual unscientific Yeti Vs. Ozark Trails Tumbler challenge! Actually they both seemed pretty similar in performance and are both fantastic tumblers.

Living in extremely hot weather in AZ, it’s a wonderful thing to fill up either one of these cups, do errands in the car, and still have an ice cold drink to enjoy . That is ah-mazing in the summer! And, at just under $10, this Ozark Trail Tumbler is a great value… especially since it does the same job as Yeti in my opinion.

Ozark Trail Tumblers can be found at Walmart.com, and in-store near the camping section. At that price we can afford to buy the whole family a cup! 😊

Yep I just got one today because I saw a review like this!! I love it!!!

  2. lindak

Next time I’m at Walmart I’m picking one up. Texas heat is bad too. Thanks.

  3. Ashley C

I bought one for my hubby and convinced him to try it. He loves it and we bought two for half the price of one yeti!

  4. Shelly

Awesome! I was literally about to buy a Yeti based on some friend’s recommendations – and you just saved me $20! Living in AZ it’s impossible to keep drinks cold when you are out and about. I’m super excited to try this! Thanks!

    Thanks!!

So I went to my Walmart this afternoon and there was a full end cap of them. I picked one up while I was there and then went on to Shop Koch who had their own display of 52oz Bubba jugs with handles on sale for $10. I was really torn because I love that it held more and had a handle. Trying to tell myself I don’t need anymore since I still have 5 or so regular bottles at home.

They are probably made by the same company.. It appears one is paying for the “Yeti” name. I will buy the less expensive and put my name on it.

    • Karin

Possibly but Yeti is suing Walmart over their cup design so I’m thinking its a good chance they are not.

      • StevenP

Probably a good indication that they ARE made by the same company/mfr. in China. I’ve heard this suggested. The lids are even interchangeable, design is pretty much identical. Absent a patent (not aware of any owned by Yeti), a ‘copycat’ lawsuit will probably go nowhere, though.

I love my Bubba! And have experienced similar ice lasting results. However since I’m a ‘cup collector” I will definitely head to Wal-Mart to pick up a Ozark to add to my collection. Thanks for posting and saving us $= xo

      Thanks for stopping by Tracy!

My husband has a Yeti, and I have an Ozark. The cups are nearly identical in look, and do the exact same job!

We honestly believe that the Yeti company gets their cups from the same company Ozark does. You’re just paying for the name!

Can you fit a straw through the opening of the Ozark? I saw on Amazon that they make stainless straws for the Yeti and am wondering if it will work with the Ozark. I will use a plastic one with the Ozark too. The photos on Walmart are pretty bad, not much detail on the lid. Thanks for any feedback!

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

Not with the lid it comes with.
I saw how you can buy accessory lids, straws, and handles separately on Amazon though.

    • RDHarris

Jamie, you CAN use the steel straws with the lid — but those straws are thin and in my opinion rather unsafe. I have them, but ended up buying some silicone straws that are bigger that fit fine – with a little bit of pinch through the lid – that doesn’t effect liquid flow 🙂

  11. Sylvia

It’s a tight fit but I use my Tervis tumbler straw in my Ozark! Love this cup! Just ordered a handle for it….funny I paid more for the type handle I wanted than the cup! 🙂

  12. Tom

    Where are they made?

  13. natalie

i use one of those bubba straws… they are more flexible.

  14. Jane

To bad the lid don’t have a slide thing that you could close so you don’t end up spilling the liquid??? Especially for the cost

  15. Barbara Fisher

Why can’t you put the ozark trail cup in the freezer?

  16. Kristy

I have a pretty great thermos water bottle, which I actually ended up stealing from my dad because he wasn’t using it lol. It holds ice for at least 24 hours and even keeps ice if the outside of the container is hot in direct sunlight. I’ve never tested exactly how long the ice lasts, so I can’t speak to specifics but it has a lid that closes tightly so I don’t have to worry about spilling it. I’ve seen the exact same waterbottle at target, I know they sell it there.

  17. Charlene

Love mine . What makes it even better is for just a small amount, you can pick up a handle and a cap that closes on amazon .

  18. Michele

How does it do with hot liquids? Cannot find a cup that’s keeps my coffee/tea hot throughout the workday!!

    • Michelle

I have a Buba insulated coffee cup and it keeps coffee hot for hours! I leave it with the spout closes in my car in single digit temps for at least 30 min+ and it keeps it hot!

    • Beth

Thermos brand coffee tumbler is great and REI brand tumblers!

    • Grammy

I got an Ozark cup for Christmas and am amazes at how long it keeps coffee hot! Best travel mug I’ve ever owned!

  19. Beth

I’m glad their tumblers are good. Do not buy their lunch bags! The material rips/cracks very quickly.

  20. Cindy W

I have read other “scientific” reviews too – all revealing Ozark as the winner. My daughters bought me one for Christmas. So far – super love.

  21. Janice

We also did the test using a Members Mark brand cup from Sam’s. Found the same thing…performed equally as well. I own the Yeti and feel like I was taken for an extra $30. Learned a valuable lesson…check out the cheaper versions first!?

  22. Bj

Our favorite is the Contigo. Ice stays for hours in full sun. Finally learned to only fill it only halfway with ice. It also keeps himot coffe very hot, which can be good and bad. My family of 5 probably has 12 Contigo stainless steel mugs. The new lids lock and are spill proof. My kids fill theirs and toss them in their. Unfortunately, sometimes upside down and they haven’t leaked yet. A bit price at around $20 but we bought ours at Costco at roughly $10 each. Sales happen on their website fairly regularly. Last Christmas everyone received a new kid in their stocking. We have vinyl stickers that have our last name and phone # in them if they get lost but it has only happened once. Labels stay on forever, even in the DW. loveable labels. .

  23. Nubeeluna

I bought my husband a Yeti and I bought myself the hot pink Ozark.
I made coffee for both at the same time and we left them on the counter.
Started at 10am… Checked them at 3pm
Ozark was still hot and Yeti warm.

It is 5:30pm and my Ozark coffee is still very warm and the Yeti mildly warm.

So far I am so happy with the heat challenge.

He poured ice cold beer in his Yeti yesterday and it warmed up before he finished it. 🙁

    Yay! I’m loving my Ozark.

      Thanks for sharing!

  24. oldironhoss

Bought a camo one today thanks for the great reviews

  25. Barbara Penney

My Ozarks tumbler will not keep ice anymore. I filled it up last night in air conditioned house and it was melted. I even replaced the gasket. What is wrong with it?

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh odd. Maybe contact the company?
