Supplies Needed:

DIY Lego Travel Kit

Directions:

  1. On the back of the LEGO baseplate, mark how big you need it to fit on the top portion of lunch box. Keep in mind that you’ll want to cut it small enough so that the lid can still close.
  2. Carefully use a ruler and press down with a utility knife to score the plastic.
  3. Bend the baseplate back and forth a few times and it will split where you’ve cut a line.
  4. Glue it to the top of the lunch box.
  5. Place LEGO bricks inside box.

We just got back from a road trip (8 hours each way) and this would have been great for my Lego-obsessed kiddos! Very smart idea!

I did this for my nephew years ago with a box that I picked up at a hobby lobby type place. The box slid open and I put Legos inside and glued a Lego plate to the lid. He could paint/color the unfinished wood box however he wanted. I’ve also seen people do this with a small tackle box type thing. Their kid likes the Legos to be organized by color, so the dividers in the tackle box help with that.

Oh I like that idea too! Thanks Emily 😀

I made the last one a couple of years ago for my little ones. I used a Walmart end table which was only about 10. Now that my son is oldder I used a Desk which I got from Walmart which was about 15 on sale . It had a drawer which he uses to put the lego figures only then he uses a container for other parts. I bought the lego mats on Amazon and Glued it on the table. So I turnned a Desk into a Lego Desk 😊

Made these for my 4 grandchildren for our road trip from Iowa to Arizona. We were gone 2 weeks total and they loved playing with these. Great idea for travel.

The metal hinges are the weak spot on old metal lunchboxes, so I would get a new one instead of trying to up cycle a vintage one.

Also magnetic items are fun on a metal lunchbox.
