Is free shipping for the whole site or just on the backpacks?

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

It appears to be just the backpacks.

    • Nikki

I can’t seem to add both emblem and embroidery? What am I doing wrong?

  2. Carrie

I was waiting for this, but I recall this was 50% OFF with the free shipping + monogram+ embroidery last year right?

    • Carrie

Oops sorry it’s the same deal!!! 🙂

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

        No worries! 😉

  3. savingstacy

I did this deal last year. They are very well made. If you have a child just starting school I recommend getting a medium sized backpack so it is big enough for all the papers and projects they will be carrying around.

    • Priya

Thank you for mentioning this Stacy! I have a quick question for you. Do you think the straps may be too wide for a petite 4 year old? Thank you!

      • Run2bug

A small is going to look/be a little big on a petite 4 year old. Our almost-6 yr old has been using the ClassMate Small backpack for 2 years and it actually holds a surprisingly decent amount of stuff. We don’t try to put the lunch bag in; that’s carried separately.
The instructions will say not to machine wash, but we’ve done it and it held up just fine. Zip all the zippers, hand wash cycle, cold water, hang up to dry.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thanks so much for the helpful feedback! Good to know!

    • Erin

Really? I got a medium for my kindergartener and it is HUGE. (And she is not petite! 70+ percentile) I was thinking about ordering a small but I don’t know if they can be returned with personalization/monograms.

      • Ashley

If I remember correctly, the small will not fit a normal folder in it easily (you have to bend it). Just FYI!

        • Sarah

We bought the small last year and it fits a folder and a 1 inch binder just fine.

      • Mb9826

You can or at least you used to be able to return monogrammed backpacks. I encourage people not to put their kids name on the backpacks for safety reasons.

  4. Linds'

We got one last year and my kindergarten son’s held up so well! I can’t believe it still looks brand new! Definitely snagging another one for another child. 😉

    • Lynn

If I might ask…What bag did you order for your kindergartener?

      • Erin

I ordered a medium for my kindergartener and it is too large. Was contemplating ordering a small.

      • Linds'

I have a tall K. The medium was just fine for him.

      • Jamie.

I have a smaller than average kindergartener, we ordered the medium last year, it’s a little big but not ridiculously big, and he has used it for a whole year and it still looks brand new. The medium is a good size for small kids too, especially if they have to carry a binder and folders.

        • april

Does a binder fit in the small one ?

          • Linds'

On their website, when you click on a backpack it shows you what fits in it.

            • april

Ty. I just ordered a medium. My son is small but he requires to use a binder for kindergarten

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

How cool! Glad to hear how well they hold up! Thanks for sharing!

    • Emulvey2001

Same here. Just going to wash it & it’ll be good as new!

  5. Jennifer B.

My daughter will be starting school this year in a 3 year old program. Others that own these backpacks, would you recommend I go with the smallest size or size up so it will last longer?

    • Maggie

I got my son the smallest one last year to use for the preschool program & it was the perfect size. I just ordered One size up for him to use for the Pre -K program this year but I anticipate it will be a bit too large for him at first (he is big for his age).

    • Tina

I ordered my 3 year old the small and this will be the 2nd year, it has been great. I think he can still use it for preschool and fit a lunch no problem. I ordered my oldest at the time 5 the medium and it has lasted him 2 years. It’s way to big for my 3 year though. It just depends if they come home with a lot of stuff and also have to pack a lunch.

  6. Andreea

    No coupons for lunch bags?

    • APS

      Wondering the same thing!!

  7. Ashleigh

You can use your shop your way points on this site as well. I was able to get my son a backpack that was monogrammed and embroidered shipped to us for $8. I am SO happy about this. You can also go through ebates 🙂

    • Autumn

Thanks for letting me know! I prolly wouldn’t have seen that option.

    • CJ

Thanks for sharing, I didn’t realize that! I had $18 in SYW points so I got my son a backpack for $1.59 shipped. Yay!!

    • Danielle

Thank you for you comment Ashleigh! I have $20 Shop your way points from the Kmart shoe deal from last week that I need to use!

    • Sarah

I just signed up for points and got a $55 surprise bonus!! So thanks for mentioning that!

    • Lynn

Thanks Ashleigh for the suggestion. I also had SYW points that needed to be used and this was perfect for my granddaughter who is 2 and needs a small backpack!

    • Emily

You’re an angel! Thanks to Collin I had syw points from the fan deal so monogrammed backpacks for both my kids for 14.09 shipped!!!!!!!!!

  8. Nikki

Wish matching lunch bag was on sale too, over $50 if ordered together.

    • Tina

Me too! They last so long.

  9. Mary Ann Morley

Woohoo!! Love this deal!!! I have 6 boys, so I do 3 new ones every year, so they get new ones every other year. It was the lil ones turn this year – how fun with their names on them!!! Thanks Collin!!!

    • Heather C.

Great idea for a family with lots of kiddos!!

  10. Jessica

My son’s at camp right now and I have no idea what bag he’d want… hmm… Mommy decision?

    • Anne

I had the same dilemma. Hope he likes what I picked! 🙂

  11. Dayna

Pretty sure these are guaranteed for life. If the zipper, strap, or hole happens.. You send it back and they replace it for free!! Best bags and coats I’ve ever bought for the kiddos!! Will NEVER buy the other garbage again. They never lasted through 1 semester!!

    • Angela

Yes Lands End has a lifetime guarantee. I just sent back a 10 year old rain coat because it has lost its water resistance and they are going to send me a gift card for its value!

    • Sarah

Oooh, that’s awesome!!! Thank you for letting us know!!

  12. Megan

Code is not removing the charge for both monogram and embroidery. Is it for both?

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Hmm, I am still finding the monogram and embroidery to be Free. Did you click the “Make it Personal” link on the product page and then choose the Add Embroidery + Monogram button to add both?

      • Megan

I had two back packs and one was a digital one – all set now. Great deal – I love these back packs! thank you

  13. CO Mama

Super thankful! SO grateful All these deals are making my daughter’s 7th birthday so great on a budget! Claire’s Sticker Earrings- check! Leopard Backpack- check! Now I just need a little girls Maxi Skirt, any ideas of where to look?

    • Rachel

Target has some maxi skirts and dresses on clearance. Sounds just like my 7 year old!

      • CO Mama

Thank you! Will check it out!

  14. karen

Why did I get a hot deal alert for this? Yeah the price is good but it doesn’t fit the hip2save description of a “hot deal alert”

    • Bryn (Sister Sidekick)

Good Morning! The Hip2Save team felt this was a hot deal that had the potential to sell out before it ends tomorrow. So we decided to text it out so that no one missed out on this opportunity!

      • Heather

Thanks so much for all you do. It is appreciated.

      • nicole

        Totally a hot deal- I’m pumped 😀

    • Heather C.

It is definitely a HOT deal IMO!

    • riss

If you don’t think this fits your hot deal concept, just ignore the email and move on. Obviously, it’s a hot deal to lots of people here. No need to call the team out.

      • Linds'

        👍🏻👏🏻

      • TJ

Agreed. It’s a hot deal for our household!

    • Sarah

It’s a *hot* deal for me!!

  15. Sarah C

Can anyone comment on the difference between medium and large? I have a 4th grader. TYIA!

    • wishinitwas

I went with the medium for my soon to be 4th grader (nothing to base it on though). He is tall and skinny but the medium from LL Bean he has used for the last two years still seems good fit. We will pass it to his 4 year old brother in a year or two. Hopefully these are as awesome as the LL Bean ones!

      • momof4reds

The heights of the backpacks are the same but the depths are different. My kids’ middle school has the world’s skinniest lockers so I bought my 7th grader a medium. My kids are issued textbooks for home and the classroom has a set so she doesn’t need to cart books back and forth except for the initial and final trips.

    • Pamela

I got my soon to be fourth grader the large because the model looked about his size and build. It looks a little big, but I think he’ll be able to take it into middle school . Thank you Collin! You always find the best deals. My son is excited . We start school in two weeks .

    • Sarah

I’m getting a MD for my 4th grader. He’s short and skinny but I think I’d pick MD regardless. Based on the what fits inside example they give.

    • Hilary

Got my soon to be 4th grader the large this year. It was time to move up.

  16. Em

Wish they would do this deal for uniforms! That’s what we really need to get right now! Lol

    • Sana

Same here. All I need is uniforms. I have tried uniforms from everywhere and find lands ends the best.

      • Teri

        Ditto

  17. Paula Sloan

Any deals for the lunch boxes? I ordered two back packs last year (medium) for a Kindergartner and Third grader and they held up AMAZINGLY! It’s the first year we didn’t have to replace around January AND they are using them again this year, as they are still perfect!

    • Dee

The code gives you free shipping on the lunch bags. This saved me $8.

  18. Rachel

Amazing deal, these backpacks last for years!! Thank you!!!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re welcome Rachel!

  19. Brooke

I wish this included the digital classmates. Do you think they will put on another sale like this before school starts?

    • T

      our school started today 🙂

  20. Carrie

Got one! Most of the prints I had my eye on before were gone, but $18.50 shipped is too good a deal to pass up!

  21. JMarie

This is my first time ordering these! Can’t wait to get them! I ordered one for each of my 3 kids. Great deal!! Thanks Collin! 🙂

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Awesome! YW!

  22. Suzyq

Be sure to read the reviews if you’ve purchased these backpacks in the past. Sounds like they have changed the design this year and the quality isn’t as good as previous years. Bummer cause it steered me away 🙁

    • Lynn

Suzy, I do feel as though for the discount involved today and at this price, it will be worth the “risk” of ordering these. I am happy that they do guarantee a return if not satisfied for any reason. Just my opinion.

  23. smileypv

Thank you! My son just started PreK, an unexpected event as we were waitlisted until a week before school. I had not bought him anything new, but the stuff he had taken to preschool, which we were planning to use for another year until he started Kindergarten, is simply not big enough for PreK. I just bought him a new lunchbox, but I also discovered that his backpack is not big enough for the luncbox and his papers from school. This backpack deal just solved our problem! Even better, this backpack is the same price I paid for a new lunchbox! Score!

    Thanks, Collin!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You are SO welcome! 🙂

  24. Heather

Sweet I got my little man one (he goes to daycare but calls it school), hoping that when he starts preschool next year it will still be in one piece haha!
After discounts and shop your way rewards I paid nothing! My kind of deal! 🙂

  25. Elaine

I bought the polka dot one pictured last year and it has held up extremely well so no need to purchase a new one this year.

    • Haseena

Same here. I went back to buy the matching lunch bag for it right now, but they no longer offer that design and the code is not valid on lunch bags 🙁

      • Sheila

        Same here! Great bag.😀

    • Sarah

      Same here. It’s great!

  26. Janie

Thanks! Used Discover and got 5% CashBack..yay!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re welcome!

  27. T

does anybody know about wheeled backpacks? are they good?

  28. buckeyemom

    Awesome deal!
I always went with PBK backpacks for my oldest kiddos, so I hope these are similar quality. Thanks!! 😊

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You are very welcome!

    • Sheila

We bought the Pottery Barn McKenzie backpacks and lunch boxes for years. These Lands’ End backpacks and lunch boxes are MUCH better quality.

      • buckeyemom

        Oh great…thanks Sheila 😊

  29. Sue

I wish Pottery Barn did this.

  30. Sarah S

I bought a small for my 95th percentile (height and weight) pre-k child last year and it was perfect. It was a little big on the first day of school but it fits her well now. I think the size will get her through 1st grade even, but they don’t pack much around at our school. The small could easily fit 3 1inch binders with some room on top for a light jacket stuffed in, because that’s how kindergarteners work. 😉 It has held up great with going to school every day and being used as an overnight bag to grandma and grandpas. I just bought one for our new pre-k child this year! Thanks!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You’re welcome Sarah! Thanks so much for the helpful feedback!

  31. sandra cruz

I ordered a bag for my son a week and a half ago…40% the bag, paid for shipping, monogram & embroidery. Do you think they will do a price adjustment? I received the bag this morning, looks great, but not happy that paid over $40 and now I can get the same bag for $20 now.

  32. Melissa

Thank you so much!! With my shop you way rewards points, I got the XL backpack (originally $60) for less than $4!!!!

  33. Jeanette

So excited! Kids are soccer players and their name were short enough to apply on the bag. Super excited for them to come in. Awesome deal, thanks so much!

  34. Lynn

Just wondering, does anyone actually put the kids initials on these backpacks? I’d like to but I’m “Mimi” and I’m not sure my son & dil will approve. Any thoughts?

    • CJ

I’m sure the monogramming is popular. I went with just the baseball embroidery bc I couldn’t decide when it was no longer “cool” for a boy to have their initials or name monogrammed on their backpack. (Mine was for an 8 yr old) Another thing I’ve discovered having 3 boys is not to personalize so I can pass it down if it’s still in good shape. Embroidery can be removed but it usually doesn’t look that great afterwards bc of all the holes.

    • Sheila

I do. Close friend of the family is a police officer, and highly encourages us not to put our kids names blazoned across backpacks and jackets.

    • wishinitwas

I also just went with a football on it. My son is 9. I don’t like names or monogram for safety reasons anyways. Also we have 3 boys so if its in good shape it gets passed down. Our daughter is the lucky one, no sharing! 🙂

    • nicole

I wouldn’t put a first name on a bag (too easy for creeps to know your kids name.. ) but initials should be ok! If in doubt, plain is a great choice and can be exchanged if they already have one/need a different size etc

      • april

I did initials 2 because i feel it is safer than the name. I doubt a creep would figure out a name by initials

        • Amy

When would your child be by strangers with a school book bag? unless they walk I don’t see the danger in putting their name on it.

          • Abby

I think it depends. Where I live lots of kids walk to and from school. My kids always take the bus or get dropped off/picked up by me so in not worried about it.

          • april

            Yeah i guess thats true

    • TJ

I was ordering one for my 4yo who starts pre-k and he said he wanted his initials. My 10yo son pipes in and says “I want a backpack with my initials on it!” I was really surprised. He said it’s the cool thing! So I might get him one too with this deal.

  35. CJ

A HOT deal for me as I’ve been waiting for this deal to come around again. The last two years (kinder & 1st) I bought my son a character backpack from Target & Walmart. Both wore through on the bottom & barely lasted one school year. I went with a solid navy medium size with the baseball embroidery. Used SYW rewards & paid only $1.59 shipped. I’m thrilled! Standard shipping showed arrival Aug 22-27th & we start school Aug 22nd so I’m hoping it gets here on time but if not we’ll make do the first week.

  36. Karina

Got one. Thank you so much!

  37. Jessica

I got the green one for my Minecraft loving 7 year old. My mom is going to add a Minecraft patch of some kind to the front, instead of the embroidery offered. Can’t beat that for $21.

  38. Sara

YAY! Was WAITING for this deal! Bought my daughter one last year (for daycare/preschool) and it’s the perfect size (x-small)! Also use it for overnights at Grammy’s! Love it – such great quality and love the personalization! Had to get one for the baby this time for daycare 🙂

Side note – if your kids to go daycare/preschool (ANY AGE) these x-small backpacks are GREAT because they are personalized and fit into the little cubbies! Before I had this I used to send stuff in cute little totes – and unfortunately sometimes they got sent home with the wrong parents and not brought back 🙁

    • rufus

Thanks for your feedback. My little guy is starting 3 year old preschool this year. I kept going back and forth between the x-small and small. I chose the x-small based on your comment.

  39. Oshea

I ordered a small for my pre-k kid. Big sis has the medium & it falls way past his bottom. Only one option left in small solids for boys. I was waiting for this deal. Ordered two last year. Thx 4 posting, as I didn’t watch GMA. By the way, the ones from last year look brand new. The material must be treated or something.

  40. Urvi

Got the High Sierra deal form a couple of weeks ago [~$16]. Are these better quality or about equivalent?
Hoping the parent’s w/ older children/more experience can advise. 🙂

    • Debbie

Im wondering this as well. I got the high sierra from Costco for my 7th grader, but wonder if this would be better

      • Oshea

High Sierra is good quality. The company is an outdoor/rugged/camping type co.

  41. lee

What size for a smaller than average-average kindergartener?

    • Oshea

      Small. Height descriptions are available.

  42. Jennifer

    Thank you, Collin!!

  43. Tami

The medium was a little small for my 6th grader last year. Hope that helps!

  44. maclover

would a medium fit a first grader? She is about 98 percentile in height. I am planning to use this for atleast two years.

  45. Tiffany

I can’t get the deal to work. Is it too late?

    • Tiffany

Figured it out, thank you for another great deal!!!

      • Nicole Woltmann

How did you figure it out?!? I can’t get the 50% off deal to work either

  46. Jenna

I’m a bit partial to LLBean backpacks. Does anyone know if there will be a similar sale at LLBean on backpacks this month?

    • Amy

I am wondering the same thing. I love LL Bean backpacks and I am waiting for a sale.

      • Jen

Got my 3rd grader a Minecraft design LL Bean backpack for $29 last week. He’s had a Lands End backpack & lunch box since kinder & could still use again this year if necessary. Held up great. I think the lands end & LL Bean bags are same quality when next to each other (I compared them when the new one arrived). I got my 5th grader a Swiss gear back pack this year ($60) after using a Lands End backpack for 5 years!! The Swiss Gear is so sturdy it will probably hold up through high school (I hope so for the price!!). Point is: we’ve used LE backpacks for years & they do hold up if treated with common sense (if kids drag them across the parking lot or pull open the backpack instead if using zipper , it’s going to break down fast).

  47. Kenia

Thank you so much, just got my twins next year’s backpacks for free. I had enough shop your way points! Not that they need them because they have used the same Lands End backpack for 2 years now and they still look new. They were just dirty so I put them in the wash and they came out like new!

  48. Melissa

Thank you!!! I’m actually ordering for next year! XL for my “to be middle schooler” and M for my “to be 1st grader” both of which will need bigger pack packs next year! We e always had LE packs & love them & with life-time guarantee always worth a try in my opinion!

  49. Kim W.

Love these backpacks! My son’s lasted through Kindergarten and First Grade. Just purchased another one for my Preschooler. They’re great backpacks at an awesome price. Thanks for sharing!!

  50. Centzablemom

Great deal. Ordered 2 for my grandsons.
