Transform a Dollar Store Pumpkin into THIS with Spray Paint…
Are you excited for fall decorating?!
Grab some spray paint, and let’s transform some inexpensive items into a fun centerpiece for your table this fall that won’t break the bank. Sometimes, it doesn’t make sense to spend a ton of money on seasonal décor since you’ll only be using it for a month or two.
I recently picked up some dollar store pumpkins, leaf garlands, and two of those pumpkin candy pails from the thrift store for 69¢ each. My strategy was to spray paint all of the items the same color for a more uniform and stylish look – and I’m LOVING the results!
Spray Painted Table Centerpiece
Supplies Needed:
- Any Dollar Store, thrift store, and/or things you already own to update and re-purpose (plastic pumpkins and garland shown)
- Spray paint (I used and LOVE this Gold Metallic Spray Paint by Rust-Oleum)
Directions:
- Protect a well-ventilated area with paper or some type of cover.
- Spray pumpkins and garland with desired spray paint color. (The biggest tip with spray paint is to make sure you’re not spraying too close to the object, and take your time to do a few thinner coats of paint letting each dry in between. This will avoid runny paint.)
WARNING: Spray painting things is FUN and gets addicting.
After the paint is dry, have fun arranging and stacking pumpkins on your table. Fill the larger candy pails will plants or flowers if desired. (The plants pictured are just inexpensive greenery found at IKEA. I use them for every season!)
I’m enjoying my festive table and love the fact it didn’t cost a ton of money.

SO love Fall and SO ready for Fall crafties!! 🙂
Me too Laura! 😀🍂
I went to the dollar store and found so much fall decor, lots of floral and pumpkins. Can’t believe all the stuff they had. Really wish I went there first before I spent so much at Joann’s on fall decor
That is so cute! 😊
Thanks Tammy!
Adorable! Where did you find your dining table? I love it!
Thanks DD – A retail store called DownEast Home. They sell discount pottery barn and restoration hardware 👍😀
Oh nice, I’ll have to check it out! Looks like I have one less than 20min away, sweet!
Oh my gosh it’s my favorite! Enjoy 😀
Great idea! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks Trixy!!
I love this!!!!
Thanks Sara!
What a beautiful centerpiece! Love it.
Thanks Karen!
Very pretty. Great idea.
I used the same pumpkins and drilled some small holes in the bottom to use as Halloween planters for my mums! I also used a couple of candy bowls for the same thing! We got so many compliments!
That’s awesome Lauren! 😀
Thx so much for this idea.I cant wait to do this project with my two boys. Im going to let them write there names on it , they will b mini candy dishes .they will lv it .!!
Oh how fun! Have a great time ❤️
I can’t find any plastic pumpkin pales anywhere. I literally went to 2 dollar trees, Walmart, target, Kmart, and dollar general and no one has ones like the ones in the picture. I need to find ASAP!!!
Mine are actually from Goodwill -.69
They had a huge bin of just these buckets 🎃
Hope that helps!
Same here! They’re still trying to get rid of all the back to school items. Our Dollar Tree stores even have all the Fall stuff out but not the plastic pumpkins ☹️. The search is on!!
I got mine through Target, online. Maybe try online? 😉
They had a bunch at 99 cent store if u have those where u live
I’m not ready for fall just yet. But I’m going to remember this post. I love the gold leaf garland. Would be pretty in a door wreath!🍁🍂
Great idea! The leaves turn out so cool. 😀
Great idea! Thanks!
I use my JoAnns 50% coupons to stock up on spray paint – they have a good selection at around $7-$8 – so $3.50 – $4 a can, IDK if its cheeper somewhere else.
Basic colors can be cheaper at Walmart, but I typically buy unusual colors at craft stores, too. I think A.C. Moore might be a bit cheaper than Joann but it’s been a while since I’ve purchased spray paint there. Lowes prices aren’t terrible if memory serves. If anyone else has ideas, I’d love to hear them. I paint everything!
I get free spray paint at my local hazard waste center
The small pumpkins (not the pails) are they $1 each? Im having a halloween themed wedding and looking for small pumpkins to place around the tables. Would live to try this idea
Yes! Those small ones are $1- I actually thought about how cute those would be for a fall wedding. Congrats! 😀
Also check 99 cent store also. They had cute small pumpkins
Love!!! Thanks Lina!!! 🙂
Sure- and thanks Sally!
Great idea!!!
Thanks Bonn!
I really love this idea. Thank you, and I love spray painting decor because when I change my color scheme all I have to do is spray paint stuff my new color/colors (especially in my bathrooms).
Great- and thanks for the nice comment!
Love this!!! And you’re right… Spray painting IS addicting! 🙂
Yep! Thanks Heather! 😀
Love the idea! Also, love your dining room table, where did you get it from? I have been looking around for a farmhouse table.
Love it! I, too, am addicted to spray paint. Some many things can be updated with a simple can of spray paint–nothing is safe from me and my paint! The Ikea plants are my favorites–I have them all around the house–so inexpensive.
Thanks Donna!
What about spray painting styrofoam, it kinda deteriorates after I spray painted them, (the small pumpkins) any tips?
Did you spray the inside of the pumpkin buckets too? If not, how did you protect the insides from paint? Thanks for the great decorating idea! I hope mine comes out as cute as yours! 🙂
I sprayed in around the inside edges but not really well knowing I was going to put greenery inside that would cover. Hope that helps. Have fun!
Great idea! I also use those pumpkin buckets in the flower bed. I just drill a hole in the bottom, add a solar light stake, add the light, and presto! Glows all night and no candles needed.
Tracy love the idea of a solar light in them. Thank you for sharing, and Lina love love the gold pumpkins. Thank you for sharing:):):)
Great idea Tracey!
Tracey I’m pretty sure you are a genius…and I feel so dumb for never thinking of that. Story of my Pinterest life, lol! Great idea with the gold pumpkins too! They look so pretty and Fallish!
