I always think I want to work at Target, but realistically, I’d be handing my paycheck back to them–and then some!

      Lol! πŸ˜‰

When I was in high school I was hired at Target and the grocery store…..my mom made me choose Target so she could use my discount πŸ™‚

I only worked there for the summer, but it was a great job!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Awesome! Thanks for sharing!

I was thinking about putting in an application. My only problem is I can’t work weekends because of my kids. Then I hear my husband say you won’t know until you try!!

    • Carla

Weekend availability is mandatory. Plus you have to work Thanksgiving/Black Friday.

      • Penny

Yep! They won’t hire you if your not flexible on days and hours!

Target also has an extra 20% on top of the 10% discount which is only good for C9 brand, Simply Balanced, and ALL fresh fruits/veggies. I would assume that the 20% would also be available for the temp team members.

    • Tiggy

Yes, seasonals do get the 20% wellness discount on top of the 10% Team Member discount.

I worked there seasonal and then became permanent…the two stores I worked at were a horrible experience. There were perks too…knowing when the price changes were coming…

I agree with you 100%! Worst job I have ever had! I started off seasonally, only making $7.25 hr. I stayed after the seasonal period, got my first raise, and it was 11 cents!!! And I was told, that was a GOOD raise. LOL! My next raise was 6 cents! I was a hard worker as well!! I worked all weekends and super late nights. Just because the store may close at 9 or 10 at night, doesn’t mean that you get to leave too! I had several nights having to straighten up all departments and not leaving until 1. Holiday work i mandatory as well. Target has terrible turn over and you will always get called in on your days off.

      • Tiggy

Turnover is high at Target, same as with most retailers. Target has made retention a goal this year for managers. Unfortunately, Target has majorly cut hours at all of it’s stores since sales and profits are down. More work, less time to do it.

And yes holidays and weekends are mandatory. Many stores even have blackout dates for most of November and December.

Also, if you’re a cashier, be prepared to push sign ups for Red Cards. There are weekly “goals” that need to be met. The managers’ bonuses depend upon getting people signed up for them so there is ALOT of pressure on the cashiers.

Sorry to hear it was a bad experience πŸ™ Thanks for sharing!

I worked at Target when I was in highschool. Out of all the part time jobs I had while I was in school, Target was my favorite. They offer great perks, and I always felt like a valued team member.
I work full time now and so does hubby, but the thought of going back to work at Target for a little extra cash around the holidays isn’t a terrible idea!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

That’s great to hear Emily! Thanks for the feedback! πŸ™‚

I still work for Target. 7 years at there Distribution Center. Awesome job, awesome perks. Overtime year round. Great place. We have a lot of seasonal workers there as well and everyone that puts in the effort always gets a job.

$10 is less than minimum wage where I live. So I hope they give a better incentive.

Does anyone happen to have a Shutterfly code they’re not using? I would really appreciate!!! Thanks in advance!!

My sister worked there last year for seasonal. She told me she was treated really well. I believe in black friday they brought in a ton of food for the employees. I’d consider it for a 2nd part time job but i know my husband won’t let me.

I worked there for 5 weeks and it was horrible. The human resource gal who interviewed me wrote down I had open availability when I most definitely did not and they kept scheduling me hours I couldn’t work. When I complained I found out about the error and was told I had to work 3 months before I could change my availability. I was called into the office toward the end of my shift and written up for coming in late to a shift the week before that I already told them I wasn’t available to work. I quit right then and there. The manager looked at me in shock like no one had ever quit and said but you’re scheduled almost everyday for the next 2 weeks and for Mother’s Day this weekend. I said people who quit don’t come back in to work….I found out later they “fired” me for no call no show. They make you call the customers “guests” what a joke.
