I have had this happen to me a few times, they always extend my membership the extra month. Once they even refunded the price of my product along with the membership extension because my purchase was a gift and arriving 3 days past the original expected date. They have great customer service at Amazon.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

How cool! Thanks for sharing your experience Kristina!

  2. Danielle

I do this all the time! So fast and easy…I haven’t paid for my prime membership in 1.5 years!!!!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Oh wow! Thanks for sharing!

    • Cassie

Do you legitimately have THAT many late deliveries, or are you just using the policy? We order a lot from Amazon, and rarely have I had to contact them for this. They have extended my prime a couple times, but 18 months worth seems like a supervisor should be contacting your post office to find out what the problem is!

      • Danielle

Yes, I’m doing nothing shady here…I am a paying customer of Amazon prime. I order 4 to 5 items a week. At least once or twice a month I have a package arrive later than 2 days. I simply email customer service and tell them nicely and ask to have 1 month extended on my membership. It is never a problem. They have wonderful customer service and I am a really good customer 🙂

        • Cassie

That’s good to know, but since you are having that many issues though you should have someone look into it from Amazon or your post office/shipper. I’m sure they want to meet their promise of 2 day delivery and have late packages be the exception to the rule and as rare as possible instead of having to dish out free months to people on a regular basis. Good that you are being honest, but not so good that someone is dropping the ball on service between their warehouse and your house.

  3. April

I don’t do this because honestly I may have issues more important to me that occurs with my orders and I don’t want to be labeled a bad customer but that is definitely nice of them to do that.

    • KellyRG

I am confused how taking advantage of a policy they created to remedy their fault (late delivery) would label you as a bad customer.

      • April

Because people abuse stuff and I love having my amazon account and want to continue using their website. I prefer not to contact them because an order is a day late cause most of my orders are not urgent but I am not telling other people what to do.

        • GiulianasMom

I agree with you that some people abuse things. However, if you ate honest you will always be rewarded with Amazon. For example, whenever I have had this problem they have given me full refunds which have amounted to more than a months worth of memberships. I’ve only requested for help finding my packages because someone’s ur says delivered when it isn’t. Other times I have either not liked what I ordered or wasn’t satisfied and requested a return label. Twice they have given me a refund and told don’t worry about it “please properly dispose of the item.”
If you are dishonest in your actions you are doing something wrong. If you ate honest and truly asking for help it is good customer service. IMO

          • momof4spoiled1s

That’s not always true. My local post office stole two (the only two) Amazon subscribe and save orders I had ever placed. I did everything I could to find my packages before calling Amazon to claim them lost. Anyway, to make a long story short, when Amazon CS replaced my orders they credited each individual item and then rebilled each item so they could reship. The next day I got an email that in part read “We have closed this account because you have consistently asked us to issue refunds for a large number of your orders”. I was shocked and Amazon won’t talk to you if they have closed your account. They don’t care. I was always an honest customer. I got punished for something that was out of my control. I guess Amazon wants one to pay for something they didn’t get and the CS reps should know how to reorder without jeopardizing a customers account, but they didn’t.

      • jenn

For real. And you pay them to have prime. They should hold up their end of the deal.

    • Heidi

I fully agree with you! I don’t do it either for the exact same reason. They will probably eventually stop doing it if it becomes excessive too,

    • Sheila

As a customer who PAYS for Prime-2day delivery, I expect my packages in 2 days, that’s what I’m paying for. Contracting with USPS & On Track has cost them big time. Many late Prime shipments.

      • Courtney

That’s exactly how I feel. I’m PAYING for prime which is a shipping program. If it didn’t matter to me when the packages came I would just use amazon and save my hundred dollars a year. If I pay for the service I expect it. If I bought cable TV and once a month the cable went out I wouldn’t not complain for fear of being labeled a bad customer.

        • April

I pay for prime also but if I thought their service was so horrible that I felt the need to complain for every shipment that was a day late I personally would not pay for prime.

    • Natalie

You wouldn’t be labeled a bad customer. It’s in your contract, it states that if that if they deliver your package late that you can request a month free. You are more likely to get on Amazon’s bad side if you’re constantly returning items (at a certain point they’ll ban you ). But not for asking them to honor their agreement.

  4. KellyRG

Yup. I have done this at least four times within the last year. Such a great policy. Each month granted is essentially an $8.25 value (factoring the $99/12-month prime subscription cost).

  5. Lana

Our packages are late ALL THE TIME! I am doing this from now on! Thanks!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re welcome Lana!

  6. Patty

    Wow thanks for that info!
Too bad Kohl’s doesn’t extend some sort of courtesy for late deliveries.
I’m still waiting on a comforter from the down alternative deal from a month ago!!

    • Erin

Kohls shipping is THE worst! I don’t order from them for Christmas after Thanksgiving because I know we’ll never get it in time!!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re so welcome!

  7. Diane

Recently made a purchase that got “stuck” between their warehouse and the shipping facility… it still is over a month later!! I wanted them to reship that day, but they made me wait an extra day before they would consider it truly “lost” and added the free month to my membership. I did not know that was their policy… just thought the guy felt sorry for me!! 🙂 Glad to know this should it happen again! Though, I have to say, I’ve only had one package show up late in over 3 years of using Prime. Guess I’ve been very lucky!

    • Amy

This happened to me with a prime pantry order a year ago and it’s still stuck in the system haha. They did give me a partial refund and replaced some of the order. I’m still unhappy about how they handled that. I had to fight and fight over 5 phone calls just to get either my money back or replacements. Awful experience

      • Cindy S

I had this happen to me recently too. The order was delayed so many times because it kept getting shipped between their fulfillment warehouses instead of being shipped to me. I kept trying to cancel it and they refused saying it was in transit, but it was in transit to another Amazon warehouse, not to me the customer. After several e-mails and phone calls, I finally got a supervisor who said she canceled it so I ordered the item from another company and Amazon shipped it to me anyway, and then they wanted me to pay shipping back! It is extremely rare for me to complain about orders, even if they are delayed, and I have made less than 5 returns in the last 10 years, so I don’t consider myself a problem customer. When I do have a problem, it’s like pulling teeth to get them to fix it. VERY frustrating that they treat their customers so differently!

        • Amy

Yep, same for me. That was only my second time in 10 years contacting support. The other time I was very disappointed as well. I ordered an eye shadow pallet that was all smashed when I opened the package. The replacement package had the same problem. Neither time was it even wrapped. It was just thrown in a big box with those air pocket strips. Finally I contacted support and he basically just said he would refund my money since they couldn’t get it to me. And that was that. No apology or anything

  8. mel

Almost all my pkg now I order on prime are turning into 3 or 4 day delivery vs my guaranteed 2 day…so I finally called and they gave me a $10 credit and said you need to read the fine print and it only applies to certain municipalities

    • jenn

Yes, we have noticed this too. Some many as 5 days!

    • Rebecca

What it is is that it’s 2 day shipping when it actually ships, however it can take a couple days to process before it ships. So they say. To me, seems like an easy way for them to get around it. My orders have slowed significantly, most taking around 4 days.

      • Melissa

Same here! I used to get my packages in 2 days and was told the same thing. It’s 2 days from when the product ships now.

  9. Ashley

Has anyone been told they have been getting these extended months but don’t ever? My membership renewed on its original date when the time came.

    • Stephanie

Yes! Last year it was a complete nightmare for me. They renewed my membership but it wasnt supposed to (it was even earlier than my original date by 2 months) so then they cancelled it all together not informing me. This was a week before Christmas. I called and talked to several people but they finally figured out the first guy who cancelled it did it on accident and refunded me the entire year (that I had used 10 months on already) AND then they gave me the entire next year free…so essentially 2 years free for making the mistakes. It was a process but they did an excellent job correcting their mistakes–always do in my opinion

    • jenn

I have done this a few times and always stayed on chat with the rep while I refreshed my account and the change showed up. It is near instant. Might want to try that next time

  10. Leigh

I think this is an excellent policy. It certainly took me from furious down to mad when my mail got lost and I had to deal with a mail fraud case because of it.

  11. shopper

This happened to me last month..the package came late and we didnt have it for the trip as we wanted. Do you think it’s too late to reach out? Anyone tried this a month after?

  12. Heather

I just upgraded my shipping to one day on an order. Half the order ended up being scheduled for two day. But wait, I have prime! So it would have taken two days anyway. I had to call and cancel the order. They offered to extend my prime membership. And refunded my upgraded shipping cost. What a pain. My prime was supposed to end in September but over the months its been extended though January.

  13. Amy

Never had my membership extended but I recently had 2 Prime pantry orders arrive the day after they were supposed to be here. Each one I had used the free shipping promo and they still gave me a 5.99 credit for the shipping.

  14. Liz

I always get a year added to my prime membership because of this policy. If i place an order on monday i expect the order to be delivered on Wed, if not i contact CS and i get my extension.

  15. Mike Wood

So strange. I must get the wrong rep every time. I have let them know at least 2-3 times about my packages being late and they never have offered the extra month … oh well, looks like it works most of the time, so next time, I will try it again.

    • V

Yeah, never happened to me either. Maybe you gotta ask for it … idk

  16. NN

Question! Do you count the 2 days from when you place the order or when the item ships? For example, if I placed the order on Sunday and they say it’ll ship on Tuesday and be delivered on Thursday, would you consider that 2-day shipping? TIA!

    • raychaelrenee

It is 2 days from when the order ships. I am an employee and thats what the shipping guarantee is. The verbiage on the site isn’t the best and it confuses people.

  17. Heather

Man whenever I’ve complained because I didn’t get something by the guaranteed delivery date they’ve just applied a $5 credit to my account. I’d rather have the month extension!

  18. Sue

Thanks so much for reminding me of this! I recently have had two orders come late, on hold with CS as I type.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re welcome Sue!

  19. Kristin

SO happy to have found this, a Prime membership is expensive. My last order took a WEEK to ship, I just chatted them and got an extension.

  20. Susan

Update: CS extended my membership for 1 month and applied a $5 credit. Thanks again for the reminder!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Yay! YW!

  21. Elizabeth.M

I always email them when my package is late and ask to be compensated. After all i pay for my prime membership!

  22. ldsdentalstudentwives

I live in South Dakota. Nothing gets here on time. In the year I’ve lived here not a single package has been here in 2 days even though I’m a paying Prime customer. I’ve contacted Amazon multiple times about it and been told they’d look into it and get back to me within 72 hours. I’ve never heard back. Also, they told me customers are only eligible 3 times for the Prime extension from a late package so I’m confused by the people who say they haven’t paid for Prime in years.

  23. Marissa

Oh dang, and here I am thinking I was special. Lol. I love Amazon.

  24. Kasi

I have been extended about 5 months due to them not delivering packages on time.

  25. Anna

has anyone done this as the secondary acount member? My husband is primary and I’m secondary (yes we live in the same house but we have separate accounts to keep gifts a surprise and because we have separate bank accounts). I’ve never complained because all the rules seem not to apply to the secondary pereson

    • Amanda

I’m under my mom’s account still (we haven’t lived together in over 10 years). I haven’t had any issues reporting late shipments and our prime account membership has been extended a few times.

  26. Nicole

So I wonder what will I get for an order I placed on 12/4/2015 and still have not received. Amazon keeps emailing me with a new delivery date and when that date gets here, I get another email with another date and so on. I have contacted a representative at Amazon on a couple of occasions and they all have told me that I will have to cancel the order and place another one in order to receive item. The original order was a price mistake and they don’t want to honor it and that’s the moral of the story. I know this because after they tell me to cancel and reorder it, I ask if they’ll honor the original price and they say no. I don’t know what I have to do to get them honor their mistake. Does anyone have any other suggestions? The item is for sale by Amazon and not by a third party.

    • Cassie

Keep at it! Call (not email or chat) and ask for a supervisor right away! They absolutely can honor it, whoever you are getting just is not doing it for you. I have had this happen before with items I got on sale/lower price that had to be canceled and re-ordered, and had the price honored. Good luck!

      • Nicole

Thank you. I’ve always been one to have a paper trail so I have kept the details of each Chat conversation I’ve had with an Amazon rep. even the one’s with their “Supervisors”. But now I think I’ll give them a call and ask for the Supervisor’s Supervisor. I’m not one to be pushy but I don’t like to be mislead.

  27. Jennifer in Oregon

I’ve never had a problem with my prime purchases reaching me in time. In fact just yesterday I got a package in one day! A total happy surprise. Nice that this is offered when there is a malfunction. Good customer service goes far with me in terms of loyalty.

  28. Bekah

Thanks!! I just had this happen this week and wondered to myself if they offer anything because of it. I’ve always had wonderful experiences with their customer service! Love my Prime!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re very welcome!

  29. Cassie

I think it is a great policy since we DO pay extra for the 2 day shipping, as long as people are reporting honestly and correctly. I worry about calling attention to it though because of people who will har about it and abuse it and if that happens then Amazon could stop doing it. :/

  30. Denise S

Wish it would have worked for me! I complained yesterday. Half of the time my packages are late!! I think that I will be discontinuing my prime.

  31. Jerry

Just had an issue with a package not received this weekend, I have spoke with them on the phone and on chat and I am not able to receive any compensation for hours spend on trying to resolve the issue. My original order was placed with a promo code which now is no longer valid, original price was 59.95 the code took off 29.98 making item 29.97. Since they credited my account for the amount of the promo code (so I could reorder and receive the original price), they couldn’t compensate any further. So now I am just getting the item at the price I originally ordered, now a week later and hours wasted just trying to just get what I ordered in the beginning. I feel I should be compensated further for the big headache this has caused and was no fault of mine. Does anyone think writing Amazon would get any better results or should I just give up? I am a very unhappy Amazon customer…

  32. Johnnie

I just saw this post after Amazon just wrote me back about my nephew’s missing fleece I ordered. It was supposed to arrive yesterday. It didn’t, so I wrote them an email because my nephew doesn’t have anything. Their temps have been in the 40s. So that’s what their agent wrote me back saying. My prime will be extended a month later.

  33. Kelli

We live in Alaska and are guaranteed nothing through prime even though we pay the same as everyone else. I know they can’t get packages here in 2 days like they can in the lower 48 but I think I should at least have a processing time of 2 days. Most of the time my stuff doesn’t ship for at least 5 days after I order. I rarely see my stuff before 10 days, sometimes it takes 2 weeks. I feel like I’m being put on the back burner because they have no guarantee up here, so they just ship it whenever they get around to it. It’s frustrating and I have complained but nothing comes of it. so if it take s 3 days to get your packages, think of me…..still waiting…..lol

  34. Susan

I have always had my pkgs on time until recently. I have had 4 months extentions due to late pkgs. Always saying it’s an issue with UPS, usually end up getting the pkgs the next day. They have also given me a $5 promo that they told me about and surprised to see a $10 one recently on checkout that I wasn’t told about.
Their customer service is excellent UNLESS I get a foreign speaking rep who never seems to underrated my issues and then end up making it worse. Lately I have saved the phone number that came up on caller ID when I got them to call me through their website. Using that I have always gotten an English speaking person from he states. So much better. I ALWAYS call instead of using email or chat…..I am an instant gratification type of person when I have an issue.

  35. raychaelrenee

I work for Amazon customer service and I read a lot of the comments and we get calls about it all of the time, but Prime 2 day shipping is NOT two days from the day you place the order it’s 2 days from the day the package ships. The verbiage on the site is awful, but that is the ACTUAL shipping promise.
