What do Hip2Savers think about Hatchimals?
My 7 year old daughter got a Hatchimal for Christmas. Hatching it took longer than expected. It took us over an hour and a half of constantly rubbing the bottom of and gently shaking the egg for it to fully hatch. It kept going to sleep during the process too and was sometimes difficult to wake up. At one point I thought the batteries were dead because it didn’t turn again for a full 5 minutes. She loved the hatching process though and was so excited when it was starting to peck through the egg. However, she has not even turned it back on or shown any interest in it since it hatched – 6 days ago. I’m glad that I didn’t wait in a long line in the freezing cold or pay a crazy amount for this toy!
Just watch the YouTube video in the box FIRST before you even take out of the box! It’s a little labor intensive for an hour or so. All our friends that had hatching delays/issues missed the notation about turning the keys a certain way to activate Hatchimal. The Hatchimal only repeats back what you say — ONLY!
Ours hatched awesome! We just got one for the family and passed it around. It was so fun!!! The kids loved it! We did only pay $35 (got it at Target with a coupon and red card) so it was a great buy!
I was able to get one before Christmas from Walmart.com for $59. Gave it to my 10 year old on Christmas and it hatched right away. It was fun for everyone with us to watch the process. She too has played with it everyday and is definitely her favorite gift. I haven’t heard any curse words from it and nothing that sounds remotely like them. You can have the hatchimal repeat things you say. My daughter likes it so much that I just ordered one for my 8 year old son for his bday. Hoping it hatches as well as the first!
I had five at Christmas for four kids. All four kids got a working hatchimal and all four loved them. Ages1-11. No swear words from the hatchimals. We like them a lot. I returned the fifth as I got it as a spare in case one did not work. I paid fifty each. We are happy with them.
(Thanks, Jennifer and RWD!)
anyone else feel these are overpriced pieces of junk. I refuse to buy any of these. The fun part is watching them hatch and that last for about 2 min. Put 50 dollars in their college funds its a much better investment. In a week your 50 bucks will be lying in a toy box somewhere.
Yes, as well as other electronic pets. They are just weird to me…maybe because they remind of furby or tomagachi (sp?) that were fads that came and went. I’d rather spend money on Lego or educational toys, personally.
you said it!
Agreed!!
Think im going to wait til they are on clearance before i buy one especially since my lo isnt even 2 yet.
I bought one back in October before the craze. Got it for around $35 with coupons and price matching. Worth $35 for my 2 kids to share but wouldn’t pay $60 for it. They still play with it. Mine worked fine it hatched within 30 min.
I’m just curious, but for those who bought these as Christmas presents-what is your final review? I’m sure your kids were thrilled to open it but did it work right? Did they love it? Did it say naughty words? I don’t personally know of anyone who got one for Christmas but I have been following the quest on Hip2Save and inquiring minds want to know!π
We got ours about a week after Chirstmas. It took about 15 minutes to start hatching and another 15 minutes to fully hatch. No cussing noises. The hatching process is fun to watch but after a day and a half the novelty wore off with my daughter. She still plays with it but definitley not as much. It is a bit loud and gets irritating quickly.
Watch the tutorial on the Hatchimal website: Top 5 Things to know about hatching your hatchimal. It was very helpful to know what to do encourage your Hatchimal to hatch.
We found one at normal price the week it came out(luckily bc that was what my daughter wanted for her bday at the end of nov). $60 is still a tad much for it since all the excitement is the hatch. But it was still worth it bc I had never seen my 5yo more excited about a present..she almost cried lol
My 5 year old daughter got one for Christmas and it took longer than we expected to hatch, probably about 5 hours. My daughter didn’t mind the long hatching process. For her it was fun. She carried that egg around and got so excited every time it pecked. Even a few weeks later it is still one of her favorite toys. She loves to carry it around and take care of it. Well worth the price in my opinion. We are contemplating getting her another one.
We received a Hatchimal at Christmas for our 4yr old….I would say our 4yr old didn’t appreciate it but our 7 yr old is still playing with it. And yes it does repeat things you say back to you….it’s cute. We received it as a gift…..I am not sure it is worth $60 or more. We also received two Furby connects (we have 5 kids aged 7mo-11yrs). I got those for $55 a piece and think those were more worth the price and can do a lot more. The 10yr old lost interest quickly but 7yr old and 4 yr old still love those.
Yes they loved it and I recommend them. We did have a hard time with the first one but we got replacements and my kids were thrilled with them
My daughter loved it and mine hatched.i had to replace the duracell battery’s with in 3 days. The toy is kinda loud and after 5 minutes it gets annoying
If you hold the button in (belly) while you turn it on it is quieter.
Thanks so much for the feedback Jocelyn!
My 5 year old and 2 year old really like their hatchimal and everything hatched accordingly. We have had ours open since the 23rd and no battery change needed. I agree that $60 is pricey, but they seem to enjoy it. Would have much rather paid $48 because I think that’s the top point of what its worth, but it was worth the extra cost for us(We got it for $64 at Blaines Farm and Fleet of all places), since it was the only thing my 5 year old wanted for Christmas. If your kids aren’t going nuts to get a hatchimal, I would say pass for another toy. But, if they are begging for it, it might be worth the money to you. Before ordering on walmart.com. check your local Walmart. I was in the toy section in our Walmart yesterday and there were two for 48.
Check in store for a lower price. I saw tons on the shelves when in Wal-Mart the other day for $48.88.
Great find Kira!
Same at mine
These things are selling almost triple, sometimes more on ebay. Possibly a flip for someone?
I purchased one at my local Walmart and my daughter really likes it. She actually got the one she wanted when the egg hatched. It didn’t take long to hatch and she has played with it and made it a bed to sleep in too LOL.
Aww, so glad she is enjoying it Nancy! Thanks for sharing!
I finally saw these in my local target. I took a pic with a certain finger and sent it to all my family that tried so hard to help me find one during Christmas. My daughter had a lovely Christmas anyway. I won’t buy one now out of spite π
Love this Jess! Sounds like something I would do. π
My child was asking for one of this. But they where sold out and I wasn’t willing to spend hundreds. I brought a Tamagotchi instead (similar concept) and he LOVED it. And as a plus it brought me wonderful childhood memories βΊ
We received one too for Christmas. My daughter absolutely loves hers. We had no issues with the Hatching process. She plays with it everyday. I have had to change the batteries 3 times since we opened it. She loves taking care of it and you can even play games with it. You can teach it how to say things, but does not swear (lol). My daughter has even made some clothes for it out of felt and Velcro and has made it a necklace. Now she is asking for friends for it (AKA more hatchimals.) I may get her one for her Easter basket if the prices come down a bit. It really is a great toy.
I got one for 48.88 at walmart on sat. It does a lot actually and has different stages to teach it or take care of it. My kids actually play with it unlike there other toys that sit. It did take forever to hatch so i helped it out.
We received both the Hatchimal and Furby connect for Christmas and for $60….I would spend it on the Furby Connect. Does a lot more and more entertaining. Only negative is they eat batteries. I do like the new upgrade to them where you can put them to sleep with the eye mask. Saves sanity and battery life.
My 5 yr old got one for Christmas and it didn’t work at all. I emailed Spinmaster. It took about a week to get a response, but they were super friendly and just asked for my address and shipped a new one. I didn’t have to even return the broken one. My daughter just torn into the egg and the working one has a silent sister! Spinmaster was great to work with.
What information did they need when you initially emailed them? Ours seemed to be working fine and then it seemed to fall asleep and never woke back up. Never hatched. We had to hatch it ourselves! So irritating and disappointing since that’s the fun part! I guess I need to email about a replacement as well. I thought we were just out of luck, but it’s great that they were responsive to you!
I’m really glad I set my limits this season and didn’t buy this thing even though my daughter said she wanted it. She didn’t blink an eye when she didn’t get one!
Out of stock
Darn! π
Target had lots in stock at store.
I’m seeing them in stores now. 3 on the shelf at Target over the weekend and tonight my Walmart had 6. Craze is over, next thing ya know they’ll be on clearance. π
