All I could think about was Soylent Green when I saw this

    • Melissa

Me too. I know nothing about the product, but that seems like such a poor choice for a business name…

    • Megan

I’m right there with you two!

    • Diane

I was going to post the same thing!

    • Toni

Same hereπŸ˜‚ It’s made of people!

  2. M

dont buy this stuff!! people have had severe stomach pains and issues with bowel movements after consuming these things 😨😨 the company took no responsibility

  3. Ana

Don’t buy. This is making people VERY sick.

  4. Emily

This is not FDA approved and known to make people ill… cool idea, but not worth the risk.

  5. Linz

Its making people sick because “it’s people….soilent (green) is made out of people”.

    • sarah

      Yep!

    • Kathy

You ruined the movie ending for me!! LOL

  6. Mina

I got a a free sample of this months ago, but was too scared to drink it because I kept thinking of Soylent Green. I think I’ll just save it in case the zombie apocalypse happens πŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„

I love eating yummy food too much to even consider buying this stuff!! It was invented by an engineer that didn’t want to be bothered to eat. Ick!

  8. Mona

After seeing this I watched the movie again on Utube and it definitely affected my desire to purchase this product.

Yikes, some ill-informed comments with outdated information here. As someone mentioned, the company already addressed the issue with an ingredient suspected of causing gastric upset (an ingredient, BTW, found in other consumable products). Additionally, that issue was found in the Soylent bars and powder, not the premixed drinks mentioned in this article.

The company could have acted quicker, of course, but I’m not sure how someone would legitimately claim they didn’t take responsibility by removing the offending ingredient (which was sourced by another company):
    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-11-07/soylent-thinks-it-found-what-was-making-people-sick-algae

Regarding FDA approval, that is not required for lots of consumables, so the lack of explicit approval does not mean much here:
    https://www.fda.gov/ForConsumers/ConsumerUpdates/ucm047470.htm
    https://discourse.soylent.com/t/scientific-studies-fda-approval-etc/23321/4

The products are composed of ingredients generally recognized as safe:
    https://faq.soylent.com/hc/en-us/articles/212768023-Allergen-Information-Food-Certifications

Disclosure: This is anecdotal, but I’ve personally been consuming Soylent in its various forms for years (not usually exclusively) and never experienced any gastric upset as reported in the news. That’s despite living with a gastrointestinal disease, even (yes, I’ve had it for well before Soylent first came out), as well as recently having another food product unrelated to Soylent that also has algal flour with no ill effects. I’ve seen plenty of doctors during this time, and not one has expressed concern with my overall health.

Not trying to sell the product, just giving a first-hand perspective to counterbalance the other comments from folks who obviously have never tried the product.

Also, the Soylent Green joke is years-old this point, but har-har if it makes you feel original πŸ™‚

    • Bethany

That’s kind of mean, making fun of people because their joke isn’t “original”…?

      • visitor3

Maybe that post is from an employee of the company.

        • Ruthie

That’s what I thought too, but then why are the nasty comment at the end? Very uncalled-for.

  10. Savannah

I drink the original and it’s good! It’s a fantastic meal replacement product. I’ve done one per morning as I’m not too great about eating breakfast. It’s not made with humans and doesn’t cause issues. Please do proper research before posting false statements and “alternative facts”!

  11. Bethany

I’m guessing it’s made of soy which causes all sorts of hormonal issues, including the man-boob thing…..drink at your own risk! Not worth it IMHO. Soy makes me quite sick and I personally avoid it at all costs. Even if you can’t feel the effects immediately it can still wreck havoc on your system!

  12. Annie

Where do I find the 35% off coupon? Thanks.

    • Annie

Never mind. I figured it out. πŸ™‚

  13. barbarannkym

WITH the 35% discount applied, it is 34.00 + free shipping for prime members (, or 2 bucks less if you choose the subscribe and save option ) , Not 20.40 as you’re advertising
..( error? ..or price increase within one day of this being posted? ), either way.. I love Soylent, and was really excited to see such a great deal posted.. And then really disappointed to see that it was too good to be true.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Hi there! It appears the price has gone up πŸ™
