    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      How sweet! You’re welcome Sheila!

    • Amy

I totally agree! My kids are getting books, art supplies, jump ropes, chalk and bubbles (with a few pieces of candy).

  4. Sarah

I think this book is SO sad, although I have friends who love it. My daughter loves where the sidewalk ends but I’m hesitant to get it for her in case she thinks it’s as sad as I do. Maybe we’ll let her check it out from the library first.

    • Oshea

I find it very sad as well. The boy takes & takes, literally everything from the tree. However, it’s very popular & on a lot of children’s reading lists.

    • Jamie

I don’t like this book either! Everyone loves it but I just can’t get on board

    • shel08

I feel the same…the book is sad and the boy is so greedy. Not understanding the purpose except to tell my boys not to be greedy.

    • Natalie

Why it stirs so many hearts is because it’s the story of our Creator played out in a children’s book. He gave it ALL (His Son, Jesus) so that we may have a full life here on earth w His joy, amidst any circumstance, in us and eternal life forever in the next!

  5. Catie

I got this book and the anniversary edition of where the sidewalk ends…love shel silverstein!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Great buys Catie!

  6. Sandy

I love it and it is sad how the boy treated the tree, but it also shows unconditional love on the part of the tree. Good message!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Thanks for the review Sandy!

  7. kerri

Wow…the memories this book brings back. This was a big part of my childhood. I went to Catholic school and while it is a sad book, its an easier way to explain things. I see now why it was a book that the sisters felt important.

  8. janet

My favorite book! I read it to my girls all the time.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Awesome! Thanks for sharing Janet!

  9. Suzanne

best. kid’s book. ever. cry. every. time!

    • momof7

Me, too! I think some may be missing the point of the book because of the emotions you get when reading this. It’s to reach into the hearts kids (and adults) and be am example. I think it teaches empathy, love, forgiveness, and to be giving. I feel like this book opens up a good conversation after pulling at their heart strings.

  10. Melissa Rice

It is such a beautiful and touchy book. Always brings tears to my eyes.

One of both mine and my husband’s favorite books! When we moved in together, years ago, we realized we birth had a copy!
