It is not legal to use in California.

Hello MightyMouse. It is not legal for use in California. California fire codes require that smoke alarms and smoke and carbon monoxide alarms that are battery only have a 10 year sealed battery, except for wireless alarms. The alarm that you will want is the P3010CU, Model # 21026065, Internet #205842861, Store SKU #1001262578. We are Kidde Product Support at 1-800-880-6788.

PSA: Make sure you replace your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms every 7-10 years. Each one is dated so you know how old it is. One of ours failed to go off in a recent fire we had. It worked when we hit the test button but it did not detect smoke. It was over 12 years old. You find some things out the hard way!

Buying just because it uses AA Batteries. Those 9 Volts are expensive and I always have to make a special trip to buy them. I did read the Home Depot website and it said that Duracell batteries are compatible with the Kidde products.

I’m so glad I was able to purchase 4 of these. It’s time to swap out my old smoke detectors. Free shipping 🙂
