Hi Collin! I wasn’t planning on shopping at the 99¢ only store today, but I’m so happy I did! I found a bunch of my favorite’s items for just 99¢ including Organic Earthbound Farm lettuce, Fiber One bars, Oscar Mayer lunch meat and more! I also found Oscar Mayer Bacon priced at $1.99 – still a great price!

I ran into a stranger who was a fellow couponer. She groaned as she watched me grab the Fiber One cheesecake bars because she *just* bought some elsewhere for WAY more. She turned her cart around and joked she needed to leave before she bought everything in sight. LOL!

What have you found lately at your 99¢ store?

(Thanks, Richy!)

I got some Legos for 99 cents and my favorite deal is bananas at 39 cents a pound. That’s the regular price.

      Awesome buys!!

I wish we had these near us!!!! My kids love all those fiber one bars… In what states are these located?

    • C

Out west. Like AZ, NV, TX. I always enjoy visiting whenever I visit family. Bummer they aren’t in the Midwest!

      • Michelle

Ok that explains it… Another fellow Midwestern here…

I love getting groceries there. The only down side is that items change constantly.

I’m always nervous about buying food at these stores. Is the expiration date close and that’s why the price is discounted ?

    • shannon

Always check the dates. But it’s most likely because the case was damaged and original buyer wouldn’t accept so they sold to this store for cheap.

      • Richy

Always check the dates. That sometimes determines whether I buy or not. For example, dressing or marinade I buy at a grocery store might expire several months from now but similar products (like a Cajun Orleans A1) I bought at 99¢ might expire in 2-4 weeks. Same idea for snacks etc.

Being a hoarder, I buy more than I consume, so if I think I won’t get to it in time, I just give it away or bring it to work because I know my coworkers are always hungry lol.

I found some dole & minute maid orange juice-64 oz, kellogg’s fruit snacks, 3lb bag green giant red potatoes, a pineapple, pizza lunchables, loreal blonde shampoo, & suave lotion. All full size. I never leave that store empty handed.

I work for an global multi million dollar food company and let me give you a little background about how our company works with stores like 99 cents, Big Lots, Grocery Outlet, etc when it comes to code dates. We have a guaranteed code date we can sell to the normal retailers like Target, Safeway, etc etc – our guarantee could be 120 days – once our product gets to 119 days – we can no longer sell it to them – then we can sell it to liquidator stores. Now Target could get the product into their store with 160 days shelf life (again – minimum we can have it arrive at their facility could be 120 days or whatever that company guarantees) and not go through it and they still have it in stock at 75 days code life – and we could have sold it to the 99 cents only store with 110 days left and they have better code. I would say – always check the code date – but at times you make get better code date at a liquidator (99cents; big lots; Grocery outlet) then you do at Target or some other non liquidator store. With that said – I picked up Kashi granola bars at the 99 cents only store on Thursday with a June 2017 code date and Nature Valley Granola Bars with a July 2017 date. Sorry so long but since the question was asked I thought I would explain how the company I work for works and how I bet a lot of food company works within the industry.

Thx for taking the time to explain it to us. 😀

    • PDX to OGG Mama

Thanks! I appreciated your explanation too!! I usually skip going to Grocery Outlet and Dollar Tree for food, but next time I’m nearby I’ll check them out.

    • LindaS

Denise, I agree with the other responses. Your “long” answer clears up the questions I’m sure many of us have – why the liquidator stores can sell so cheap compared to the big name stores and how the expiration dates work. Thanks for taking the time to explain all of this. Much appreciated!

      Yes, thanks so much, Denise.

Picked up similar items at mine on Tues. I’m hosting a sleepover for my 11yr old tonight & was able to snag several snacks for the girls so that it’s not all sweets. My hubby is making a full going home brkfst in the am so they will have their choice of blueberry, granola or mango pancakes plus fruit parfaits..strawberries, grapes, yogurt & all from my .99 only store. The Mgr heard me mention the sleepover & pulled longer exp date items for me to assist. I’m excited!!

    • LindaS

Evan, how fun the sleepover sounds with all the yummy eats. Thanks for sharing about the manager pulling longer expiration dates for you. Kudos to the manager. Hope your daughter and her friends have a great time.

What dollar store was this that they had Oscar Meyer bacon that cheap???

    • Rick Karg

Mine was at the Carrollton store in Texas. They may have had a couple hundred packages-within 30 mins. there was only about 25 left. People were buying 10 to 15 at a time!!!

  9. Rick Karg

How can they sell Oscar Mayer 16 oz. bacon for $.99-cents-I just looked at my sales slip and I think they made a mistake. 99 cents is what they charged me. At albertson’s the same product $7.99 and the fat to lean ratio was a lot better at the 99 cent store. Amazing!
