Glow in the Dark Easter Eggs Using Flameless Tea Light Candles
Need a fun Easter activity this year to do with the kids?
Host a Glow in the Dark Easter Egg Hunt in the evening using plastic eggs and LED tea lights. They are easy to put together and look super cool with the flickering light.
You could alternatively use glow sticks, but the tea lights can be re-used for next year or for other projects!
Glow in the Dark Easter Eggs
Supplies:
Directions:
- Place tea lights inside eggs (along with any other coins or small goodies) and secure shut.
- Hide them for a festive glow in the dark nighttime Easter Egg Hunt!
I love how the tea lights look really bright inside the eggs! I can’t wait to do this with my kids at Easter! Enjoy!

Oh my gosh that is such a great idea, simple yet genius! My girls are going to absolutely love this.
Great! Have fun 😀
Pure awesomeness!!!
😀 I agree!
Lina… you come up with the neatest things to share! Thank you!!!
Thanks so much for the kind comment 👍
What an awesome idea! FYI the dollar tree has tons of Easter stuff, and the “eggs” this year are amazing. There are so many different kinds and lots of them would look cool with lights inside.
Yes I agree – very fun!
It’s so hot in Phoenix this would be a great alternative but I might use glow sticks instead
Amazon sells 100 led finger lights for $15. They are much smaller and cost effective than flameless candles.

Been doing this for the past few years…kids love it!
Thanks for sharing!
Totally off topic, but Lina, would you consider writing more Instant Pot recipes? I love the ones you’ve posted so far, and I’d love to see some more! Cute idea about the eggs by the way.

I agree! I’m a member 👍
Thanks for the request and feedback Alison!
how cool could also use finger light and leave on. smaller and more room for egg stuffers
Great idea! Thanks
Great idea! Stock up on flameless tea light candles after Christmas.
Love this idea. I also saw where someone used glow necklaces or bracelets inside plastic eggs for a similar effect. May use both. Thanks for the idea.
Sure – enjoy Dee!
I tried the glow sticks last year and they were a pain to get in the standard size eggs and to keep closed. The ones that stayed were fun.
Can anyone provide a link to eggs that are the size featured in the photo, above? The only eggs I’ve been able to find online are either way too big (jumbo, like 7″ long) or just a tad too small to fit standard tealights.
Hi Claire! Have you click through the “egg” link above and browsed those options? I find many varieties available that way. Hope this helps!
Yes thanks , I did click on the link but it only took me to the broad category of plastic eggs, not the specific correct size.
Did you ever get an answer to the right size egg to use?
I’m sorry, it was so long ago that I don’t exactly remember, and I no longer have them, or I’d check. I do know I didn’t need the “jumbo” size that I ordered online. I ended up just getting them from a Target. The lights are pretty standard tea-light size with a clearance of about an inch for the flame, so if you go from there, hopefully you can figure out the best size. (I think I ended up with fairly traditional size plastic eggs, although not the really small ones, a bit bigger.) Sorry not to be of more help!
I would use these LED flashing balls instead. They are significantly smaller and could fit into mini eggs- which allows for prizes to be hidden as well. Even better, you can reinsert the tab to use them another time. When my boys got into their tween/ teen years, I had to find other fun ways to keep our Easter egg hunts enjoyable for them. I started doing the glow in the dark egg hunts and they loved it. I used reflective tape on the outside- they were not as noticeable as the brightly lit ones with candles in them. I would also stock up on the valentines day cards that had the mini glow sticks in them. I would get them 90% off at Target. They were easy to fill into the eggs and still lots of room for money, tokens and other small gifts I would have for them. My boys still talk about how “cool” our egg hunts were and I cherish the memories.
This is such a cool idea! Thank you, Lina
Oh sure! Have fun 👍
