Would you like a little wine while you shop at Target? 🍷

Target just announced that over the next three years, there are plans to spend billions of dollars reimagining and repositioning their stores. This year alone, they will completely remodel 110 stores and open 30 new small-format stores in dense urban neighborhoods AND in 2018 and 2019, they will fully renovate 500 more stores.

The first reimagined store will be located just outside of Houston in Richmond, Texas this October. Any of you lucky Hip2Savers live near there?

This suburban store will have two entrances — one entrance to inspire you with displays of exclusive brands and seasonal moments and the second entrance will be all about ease with quick Order Pickup, grab-and-go food and a wine and beer shop. There have even been rumors that select Target stores will serve alcoholic beverages…

  2. Jane

This is so exciting!! Can’t wait!!

  3. Krissy

Great! As if I don’t already spend enough there, now they’ll liquor me all up and let me loose inside ;D

    • Shannon

      Lol!!

    • Craig

And then raise prices on all your goods to pay for the upgrades. No thanks. Happened twice at two dentists I used to go to.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Lol! 😉

  4. Ashley

I would just like a clean restroom is my target… they don’t even have to remodel

    • Cathy

      lol! yes!

      • Stephanie

        👍🏼

    • Jen

Same! Every Target I’ve been to in my area always has such dirty restrooms. Walmarts are seriously better. Lol I know I’m going for what the store has to offer and not their rr, but still if I have to go inside I’d like it to be clean.

      • Kara

That’s a shame. I must say, ours in always very clean when we go. We are in Oregon.

      • Regina

Well I guess if you are full of wine you won’t care how dirty the bathroom is!

    • Sara

What about the jet engine hand dryers?!

  5. Heather

This is a moms dream!!! Target+coupons+wine!!!! (We should make a shirt or something!) lol

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Ooh! Great idea Heather!

    • Lacey

      Yes!!

    • Proudmommaof6(7thOnTheWay)

I suppose you think no one drives to bars? It’s the same as a bar or restaurant. Drink responsibly.

  6. sally

So if they serve wine that means their customers will never go home lol

  7. thehenrydthoreau

I am not sure what this will accomplish other than another rise in prices .I have noticed steep price increases since the beginning of the year. B&M in all sectors are taking a huge beating. Payless is in process of filing for bankruptcy. With another recession on the horizon, Target should move very cautiously.

    • Craig

Yuuuuup! Just read a sad article of the rise and fall of the once great Sears.

    • Marian

      Completely agree.

  8. Micki

All sounds cool with the Target changes, but I really want to say that the photos you used are priceless. LOL!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thanks for the feedback Micki! Happy to hear you enjoyed them!

  9. Kitty

I saw a target like this in Chicago and they had a food and coffee shop in it. I don’t know about the wine though

  10. Stephanie

So confused bc our store is not new but has 2 seperate entrances with clearly different inspirations at each one…

    • Jen

Mine does too. One side is dollar spot and select merchandise displayed and leads to clothing area
The other entrance has Starbucks and cafe as you walk in and leads to grocery

  11. Sasha

Yay!! With the shift to online shopping, target is really thinking of how to stay in demand. Serving wine shifts target to more of an experience & other half quick grocery run!! Well done👏🏻

  12. spi_

Target mobile coupons + cartwheel + 5% discount with Target card on beer and wine? Sign me up! 😀

  13. Libby

I’d like them to have music! Anything to drown out the screaming kids. We’ve all been there but it’s seriously bad at my Target!

  14. Seren

    Wine!!! What!!! While I shop🙌🙌🙌

  15. Joy

I’d just like men’s and women’s bathrooms. And keeping the prices lowered. That would make me a customer again.

    • Whatever

Sounds like you should just stick to Walmart. 🙄😏

  16. Debby

All of our targets already sell wine, hard liquor and beer. How about spending that money on actually having inventory …cleaning up your stores and hiring more checkers. I was in target today they only had two checkout stands that were open and about 50 people trying to check out. Also I would love to be able to use Cartwheel for items that they actually have in their store. Many times they don’t have the items that they have on Cartwheel and I find that to be ridiculous.

Even though I hate Walmart I find a lot of times items are anywhere between 1 to 2 dollars less for the same exact item…😳

I have not been impressed with target for the last three years …somethings missing, and they’ve changed either their buyers or whoever’s trying to brand those stores they’re doing a horrible job.

    • Stephanie

I dont think they mean sell it on the shelf I think they mean sell it like at the food counters…as in a “starbucks” but it would be wine

    • Rebeka

      Yes Debby’s,
Chartwheel is really for every store the should make it more your area, I have the same problem, or the high value ones, and the item is only at Super Target, which I do not have.

  17. Swiss

They need to hire more people… restrooms/ registers lines are so so bad! And training for the coupon policy!

  18. Ph

Target in Harker Heights Tx. already sell wine

  19. Lolie

I think the drawing for the new Target looks like a department store at the mall?! 😳

  20. Amy

    7 deadly zins… GOOD CHOICE!

  21. Jorge

I live 5 minutes away from the Richmond Target. I shop at Target so much that any change for the better is welcome!

  22. Nee

I’m so excited. I saw one like this at the Santa Clarita Target. I was so shocked – looked like a fancy Whole Foods when I entered with a fancy Starbucks. Home goods were displayed boutique style as well.

  23. Leslie

They should serve complimentary wine like they do at casinos.
FWIW, stores like Target fare recessions very well.

  24. Susi

McKinney Texas has already started the remodel. Store was a wreck today!
    Excited to see the changes

  25. Jenny

The downtown Minneapolis store has already started being remodeled. I don’t care about booze. I would just like to be able to buy chips at 7 PM on Friday (seriously it is not uncommon for half the chips to be gone, as well is ice cream, milk, pop, ect).

  26. Oatbunch

How about a Target with a day care where I can dump my kids off and enjoy my coffee or wine while I shop? I’m surprised Fred Meyer beat Target with this idea.

    • Tay

That would definitely pull me in! Free childcare!!

    • Shannon

That’s super rude of you proud mommy. I feel sorry for YOUR kids because they have such a judgmental mother raising them.

    • Kathy

Proudmommy, not cool. You judge but the irony of this is that everywhere you go with your SIX kids and giant belly EVERYONE is judging you.

  27. Shannon

There’s hardly any targets near me. Closest one is 1hr away 🙁 I wish they’d open more!

  28. TraceyR

They’ve just started working on a new Target down the street from me near NC State University; sounds like it’ll be one of the urban ones. It’ll be nice to have a Target nearby!

  29. Veronica Francois

My store is remodeling and it looks great.

  30. crystalsnow

Seriously to serve wine?! Why? It’s a family store, with moms who drive there with their children, how will they get home? Why risk it? Why not reorganize, add other brands etc…double entrance is good too. More foods and snacks and coffee…but the alcohol is seriously not needed.

    • Erin

I agree! Makes no sense to me.

  31. Karen

I love my Target the way it is. Great prices, clean parking lots, clean stores, and always able to find help if needed. A manager is always closely watching checkout lines and brings up more cashiers immediately when needed. I dread thinking I may be forced to change to the “other store” in my town just to save money.

  32. TreeHuggingCouponer

Yep, very close to me. 🙂

  33. Ash

The rumors about a wine shop are just that lol- RUMORS. The truth is that Starbucks had started serving beer to customers at select locations a few years ago, one of which was the Chicago Target location that everyone points to (except you could only drink your beer inside the Starbucks portion of the store, and not anywhere inside Target itself). But it didn’t really take off so Starbucks stopped offering beer at most of its locations, earlier this year.

Target is not doing this. It’s not going to allow its customers (most of which are families) to just roam around the store with booze in their hands, and then get into their cars and drive home drunk. It has the potential to create all sorts of liabilities and legal issues, such as stores losing their liquor license altogether if problems arise. Alcohol laws also differ vastly from state to state- it would require a lot of work to keep things consistent across the board. So I just don’t see this happening, and I’m glad for it. Maybe people just don’t need to drink while doing groceries, too.

  34. LDH

We’re getting a new Target that is a smaller scale. It is opening in town, not suburban, in April. I am curious to see what it is like.

  35. Dee

Whaaat?!? Wine + shopping?? Count me in!!! 🙂
