I have friends who say they like the cameo silhouette better. I am considering getting one of these. I have googled it & seems like opinions are pretty split. Is it just opinion or is one better for certain projects, skill level, etc?

    • Melsoc

I have heard and read the exact same opinions!! I’ve used a friends cricket but never the silhouette. I liked it. Maybe they have a return policy which you can use if you find you don’t like it.

I ended up getting a Silhouette after comparing. My main reason was that the Circut software is all web based. So it will rely on the speed of your internet, browser settings and their servers. No internet means no designing and no cutting. I worried about busy times that more people would be using their software affecting the speed and availability of the cutting program.

      • Ger

How’s the software & making it? I mean, I’m not a very good crafter at all. I just wanted one for making cute shirts or decals did our cups without having to buy. Would you say it is pretty user friendly? My girls are in Elementary school, I figured I’ll need one sooner or later?

        • S

I’m right there with you, Ger. Thinking the same thing. I saw the silhouette starter bundle is $195 on Amazon but I haven’t followed these prices or researched enough to know the differences or what makes one a better deal! I am nervous about it being difficult to learn. (Many YouTube videos bit still not sure if one is easier than another) I would love more input from bargain hunting crafters

The software for the cricut is very easy to use, very simple. That has it’s pros and cons too though. I find myself designing on a different program (inkscape, free to download) and importing into cricut when I want to do something more complicated. But if you just want to find images online or from cricut and cut/draw them, the software is great! Just keep in mind that an internet connection is necessary.

I’ve had 2 Silhouette machines and recently made the switch to a Cricut. I absolutely LOVE my Cricut! The Silhouette software is hard to learn and confusing, I still didn’t have it down after 3 to 4 years! The Cricut software is simple yet powerful and very easy to use. My Cricut machine is a lot quieter than my Silhouette machines. I also LOVE the mat guides on the Cricut – you can’t load the cutting mat wrong with them. The Silhouette doesn’t have guides, loading the mat was sometimes hit or miss for me. Overall, I’m so glad I switched to the Cricut, I wish I did it sooner!!

Can you make t-shirt designs & room decals with it?

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Yes!

  4. Debbie M

Is there a subscription cost with the cricut ?

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Hi Debbie! The Starter Set above is a one time purchase.

  5. Ben

How is it $251 shipped? I can’t seem to get it to that.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Hi there! Are you clicking through the link above and using code HIPAIR ?

      • Jenny

        It’s $251.99 + tax + shipping. Not $251.99 shipped.

        • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Hi Jenny! Tax can vary. However, I still find this to be $251.99 shipped after code HIPAIR. Are you by chance on a mobile device? Sometimes that can cause issues. If not, be sure to check in a different browser. It is working for me in Chrome. Hope this helps!

          • Jenny

Hi there, I have tried it on chrome mobile and my pc. When you go to submit your purchase, it adds $20 for shipping, plus whatever taxes are owed.

            • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Darn! Thanks for the feedback Jenny. Try using SPRINGSHIP for Free Shipping on orders $50 or more. However, you can only use one promo code per order, so be sure to choose the one that works best for your order! Hope this helps!

          • Nancy Santiago

I am getting that same issue also. It’s charging me for shipping $13.46

            • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Try using code SPRINGSHIP to grab Free Shipping on orders $50 Or more. Also, it will only allow one promo code per order, so be sure to choose the one that works best for you! Hope this helps!
