Note from Collin:

Do you have a product you love? We definitely have many favorite products here on the Hip2Save Team, and thought it would be FUN to share some of them with you! I personally love product recommendations and I’ve also had a few requests from readers, so I have asked each member of the team to think of products they love (cosmetics, kitchen gadgets etc.) and to write up a post that will be shared here every Tuesday. Angela, my sidekick, is sharing one of her favorites…

Hi all! It’s Angela here, one of Collin’s sidekicks!

Do any of your struggle with thick hair? Or do you have kiddos that have wild and uncontrollable hair like my daughter in the photos above? 🙋🏻 I used to spend at least THREE hours every time we washed her hair just combing out tangles and making it manageable again. I think I might have given birth to one of the most tender headed children on the planet (correction, she’s only tender headed with me not her stylist). 🙄

She’s going to be 13 soon (EEEK!) so she is FINALLY taking interest in doing her own hair.💃🏻 <-That’s me dancing at the thought of her finally caring about her hair! However, over the past few years it has been an endless battle for her to brush her hair. A good friend of mine sent us a couple of Wet Brushes and she said it would change our lives. Note – the photos above are what her hair is like when she does NOT use the Wet Brush! 😄

I’m not sure what kind of sorcery, magic, blessings, prayers or unicorn glitter has been spread on the Wet Brush, but it has seriously made such a difference in how much time we spend on my daughter’s hair. The photo above was taken after her shower when she combed out all of the tangles and dried her hair. *Correction…”MOMMMMMM it’s a selfie.”💁🏻

I’m sure you’re thinking hey any old brush can do that. Nope, well at least for us it didn’t! The Wet Brush just glides right through her hair, and she doesn’t scream like she did with the other brushes! We like to use it to comb through her hair when it has conditioner on it (leave in conditioner works too!).

You can grab a Wet Brush from Amazon for around $8.99 or there’s a double pack for around $15.99. We’ve even added Wet Brushes to Birthday Gift Baskets that we’ve given her friends! They come in so many colors and patterns too, which teens (at least mine) really love! Now if only I can get my teen son to do something with his hair! 🤔

Note from Angela: This is just an honest post that was not sponsored by the manufacturer. I just really like using this product & wanted to share it with you. Enjoy!

I have this brush (and 4 daughters) and it’s as amazing as Angela says. I often wonder what I did before discovering it (just a mere few months ago 😭) You won’t be disappointed!!!

    • visitor3

My favorite is Wet Brush Pro Shine which has a layer of short boar bristles too. Beats the regular Wet Brush. Same price, found mine at Bed Bath and Beyond.

  2. Celia Riley Thorn

I can’t live without my wet brush! It’s the best thing ever!!!

  3. Steph-B

I am going no to try this one! I have broken so many brushes through my daughters and my thick hair, can’t wait to see if this one holds up!

Love your sons hair, so fun! My hubby has thick hair like that but keeps it shorter.

    • vmm

I don’t think it will; well, it might not break but it also isn’t likely to work well. my daughter has thick, but fine hair and at first we loved this brush for her(age 4) but now at age 8 as her hair has filled in and gotten thicker, it only works if you completely section it off before brushing. it does fine then but if you try to go thru all at once, it doesn’t get down to the underlayers….the bristles are too “bendy”. I can do it on my hair but she says it hurts if I do it that hard on her.

      • a. rich

Hairdresser here, try the wet paddle brush it should work better for you the bristles are firmer and the brush is larger.

      • Joy

I was coming to literally make the EXACT same comment lol. It works wonders on my thin, curly hair, but it does not pack enough punch to make it through my daughter’s ever thickening, but straight hair. We still use it to get the majority of tangles out, but have to have a regular brush on hand to truly get out all the tangles.

        • Steph-B

          Thanks for the tips!

      • HIllaria

You can’t have thick but fine hair. It’s one or the other. I think you mean fine hair but a lot of hair. I have the same. I love my wet brush.

        • rebecca

she probably means the strands aren’t thick or coarse but it is densely packed onto the head and the strands are plentiful.

  4. Alice

The only hair brush my sister will use. No more tears!

  5. Valerie

This is the only brush I will use anymore! I bought one because it was on sale a couple years ago. I beat it up pretty badly traveling and dropping it, I had to buy another one. It’s so great on wet hair and dry hair a like. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

  6. Kassidy

Question – I lovedddd my first wet brush, second one not so much. My first one, the texture is rubbery, second one it is plastic and yes they are both the wet brush brand straight from amazon. Anyhow, the rubbery handled one just glides through our hair and the plastic handled one, the bristles hurt…anyone else have this issue??? I want to get another but not sure how to make sure I get one like my first!

    • Angela (Super Saver Sidekick)

Kassidy – from what I’ve found there seems to be a couple of different types of how the bristles are. It sure doesn’t say anything on the packages but I’ve found that we like some more than others. I will also sometimes buy one at Kohl’s when I have Kohl’s Cash I need to spend! I think we have five or six Wet Brushes!

    • Stacey

I’ve seen them at JC Penny’s also.

  7. Tammy

I have twin girls. We’ve tried this hair brush, and I was VERY disappointed! The bristles push into the brush which renders it useless. We also had plenty of tears with it. I have found a “Goody” brand brush at walmart that is very soft, and it works much better.

    • Holly

Agree! We have 4 of them and they do push into the brush! It also takes a lot of work to get all the way through my one daughter’s hair. If you have thick hair, I don’t recommend.

  8. Laura

Thank you! It sounds like what we’ve been looking for! I’ve got my order in!

  9. Jess

I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT MINE! A reader here suggested it on the diy detangler post. Went and bought, and will never look back! Its amazing seriously I could rave on and on!

  10. Sandy

I love this brush too! I have thick hair that tangles easily. This brush has made my hair so much more manageable. Definitely recommend!!

  11. Ang

This brush is amazing! I also recommend this brush for anyone with hair loss. It is so gentle and smooth on the hair and scalp.

    • Angela (Super Saver Sidekick)

Hi Ang! I often use this brush on myself too, I went through chemo and my hair is now super fine and thin. It helps get any tangles out gently!

      • mom2boys

Beautiful mom and kiddos!! Sorry to hear about your health issues…..I wish nothing but the best for you and your family:)

        • Angela (Super Saver Sidekick)

I’m in remission! Thank you so much! 🙂

  12. Holly Petervary

The BEST brush out there! I’ve been using the Wet Brush for several years now; my daughter doesn’t have to experience all i went through as a child with my mom yanking knots out of my thick head of hair. LOVE LOVE LOVE this brush.

  13. Charlene

Is that Punch/Red available? I can’t find it.

  14. AR

My stylist just recommended this brush for my daughter’s tangly hair. I will definitely have to give it a try. Thanks for the post!

  15. Mamarenie

Tried this brush.. didn’t work for us. 4 of my 7 kids are girls.. the oldest 2 girls both girls had 14 inches cut off their hair a week ago today. One has very thick hair, other has normal.. brush is still junk.

    • Jennifer

Yea, I am so-so. It works on my hair fine (my hair is waist length and wavy with medium thickness). It works on my 2 year old who has fine curly hair. However, my 4 year old who has waist length, fine hair, it does no better than anything else I have tried. So strange 🙁

    • Angela (Super Saver Sidekick)

Oh no I’m sorry to hear that it didn’t work for you!

    • Jackie

They have different types of wet brushes. Go to target or even JCPenny and look for one for thick hair. I have very thick hair and it works like a charm. My daughters have thin hair and I use the regular wet brush on them but have the thick hair wet brush for mine

  16. Jen

Love these brushes. However, do NOT use these with a blow dryer. I learned the hard way & damaged a brush. It will melt & bend the bristles.

  17. Kim

For all of those people with thick hair- go to a good hairdresser who can thin your hair. It has changed my life!

    • Mamarenie

I second that… my hair is SO MUCH easier to brush and take care of now. Very cheap fix that is amazing..

    • vmm

or learn to work with it instead of against it…why change the thick hair we were given? There’s a learning curve and a good/bad way to cut it but it doesn’t need to be thinned to be wonderful.

      • Kim

It’s just a different scissor the cut with and eliminates the triangle shape (like in the pic of this post) of hair that happens from having too much hair.

        • Angela (Super Saver Sidekick)

Hi there! We’ve had her hair “thinned out” several times, however due to it being so coarse and naturally wavy it gets really really big when we go that route. The only thing that seems to work is having it longer! Trust me we’ve tried it all!

  18. Missy

Thank you for your recommendation! I am buying this for my 13 year old daughter to try on her thick difficult hair. :

    • vmm

Don’t get your hopes up. sorry. its not the greatest with thick hair. my daughter has increasingly thick, but fine hair and at first we loved this brush for her(age 4) but now at age 8 as her hair has filled in and gotten thicker, it only works if you completely section it off before brushing. it does fine then but if you try to go thru all at once, it doesn’t get down to the underlayers….the bristles are too “bendy”. I can do it on my thick wavy/curly hair but she says it hurts if I do it that hard on her. my niece has super thick, course, wavy hair and it just plain doesn’t work anymore; the bristles are too flimsy to get thru to all the hair.

    • Angela (Super Saver Sidekick)

Hi Missy! My daughter’s hair is super thick and coarse as you can see! Brushing with conditioner in the shower seems to be a home run with her hair type! My kids have a TON of hair! Hope it works great for your too!

  19. Jenny

I just bought this brush on sale at target and tried it last night I felt nothing as I brushed but it did work! It’s magic!!! Definitely a must buy.

  20. Becky

I love this brush! It works for us!

  21. T

During the ulta 5 for $10 spring sale, these were mistakenly put on the deal table. I hadn’t seen them before and added one to my 5 items. The manager gave me the deal and I went on my merry way. But wow, I’m super impressed too! I have frizzy, thick, wild hair and this brush glides through! I would have paid full price if I had known! 🙂

  22. Maggie S

An awesome product! It has made life with my 2 daughters so much better. The full size is the way to go. I have not found as good of success with the mini one. Between the brush and Matrix Hydrasource conditioner (put it on for 2 minutes and then use the brush to comb through it), there is no “birds nest” I cannot get out of my youngest daughter’s hair!

  23. Mel

We love this brush too. My daughter and I both have long fine hair but a lot of it and it tangles easily. I have to use other brushes for volume/straightening but this is the only brush we use on wet or tangled hair. Also, thanks Collin for sharing the homemade detangler a few years ago. Haven’t bought detangler since!

  24. Erika

The Wet brush is awesome! My 6-year-old is super tender headed and would scream with every other comb/brush we used on her hair. My sister got this brush for her and we’ve never looked back. Now I can brush her hair without tears and shrieks. Definitely an awesome brush when used on wet or dry hair.

  25. s

my three year old HATES getting her hair brushed, maybe I can try this. Is the kohls version the same as the amazon one?

    • Angela (Super Saver Sidekick)

Yes, they are both the same from my experience!

      • s

Cool-anyone know when Kohls 30% starts again ? 🙂 That would be cheaper than amazon.

        • Megan

I scored a three pack for less than $17 on groupon.

    • karen

My 2 year old hates having her hair brushed too! This brush works well in her hair but she still hates having her hair brushed. I got the smaller version and she does like to brush her own hair with it.

  26. Ashley Dawn Breunig

Ok I’m sold, anything that makes brushing time easier for my daughters and I!

  27. Annie

This is the only brush I use on my hair and my daughters hair! We both have very long hair and this eliminates the tangles without pain! It’s the BEST!!

  28. Pengy74

We have quite a few of these and LOVE THEM! My daughter has super thick, long hair and it works better than any other brush! She is also a hair dresser and uses them in the salon for clients also. My entire family has super thick and some have unruly tight curls with the thick hair and these brushes are all our favorites. The ones with longer hair still have to use conditioner and detanglers and section hair off, however it still works easier and better and less painful than any other brush we have found.

I have bought every kind of brush and been through more than I can count with my daughter’s hair( her very first hair cut we cut off 27 inches!) she is now 22. I have bought a few off of Wish and they do great on my hair and okay on my daughter’s hair, these have the rubber like handles. There is a noticeable difference from those and the ones we have bought from Target and Amazon .

  29. Jaime

Amen to this post. About 3-4 years ago we discovered. Even introduced to my small salon owner (she now carries them as well) They are a game changer. Often I pair a small toy I’ve picked up on h2s along with the hair Houdini and a small wet brush for a gift.
Our justice store near us has carried these that have their initial, etc and they will end up on clearance.

  30. noyomoco

My 3 year old daughter doesn’t have thick hair, but she HATES getting it brushed. We even cut it shorter because of the daily battles. But then we got a wet brush and it is amazing! No more tears when we have to brush her hair. We’re even growing it out 🙂

  31. Jackie

My sister in law is hairdresser and bought these for both my girls and they are awesome. Have to make sure you get the right one for your hair type. My older daughter has really thick hair and she got her one bristles on it which is to rough for my younger daughters hair. Def recommend!!

  32. s

Request for Hip2save – can you do a post on ideas for men gifts? With a husband bday and Father’s day approaching, I am at a loss!!!

  33. Tracy

Both of my daughters (ages 11 and 14) have thick, curly hair and when they get out of the shower, I am scared to do their hair, until I too found this brush. It is the best hair brush EVER!!!! Highly recommend everyone should have this!

  34. Vinnu

My 5 year old daughter used to cry all the time when I brushed her hair. After using wet brush, no more tears!! I only regret for not buying it earlier.

  35. Lan

I will add to this. This brush is amazing! I had an old brush for 25 years…it worked like a brush so I never replaced it..until earlier this year when my sister got me the Wet brush..well that is when I discovered that not all brushes are the same! My hair full, the strands are thin and long which is why it’s always tangled (my sister and mom always comment how strangely tangled my hair is soon after it’s combed). Using the old brush, I would do a quick cursory brush in the morning just to tidy the top of my hair..and after a shower..it would take me 1 full hour to comb my hair..and still it wasn’t silky smooth! With the Wet brush, I spend 10-15 minutes and my hair is straight and smooth. I don’t know why but I’m so glad it does. It also seems to pick up lent that somehow gets on my head at times! For a mama of twin boys..I can’t spend over an hour combing hair! You won’t regret getting this if you have hair to comb..long or short!

  36. Jackie

Only brush we use and it last FOREVER. I think I purchased my first one when my daughter was 2 and she is almost 9 now and the brush looks like new. I struggle to find a brush that would not loose the little round ends that cover the brush. I have thick hair and usually they would only last 4 months before they started falling. Well this one is still going strong after almost 7 years! Also make sure you get the one for thick hair if that’s what you have. I have the thick hair for me and my daughters each have like 3-4 of the regular ones. We also have the SHINE one also from the WET hair people. I just can’t say enough about this brush. It’s really amazing

  37. Elizabeth K.

Myself and all three of my kids have EXTREMELY thick hair as well…My daughter received this brush for Christmas and she absolutely LOVES IT! It definitely does what it claims to do!!!

  38. s

Looks like there are different varities. Which is best for long, not super thick hair? Original? Pro? etc?

  39. M_brown

I prefer the tangle teezer brand

  40. Krista M

I have super thick long hair and I am OBSESSED with the wet brush. It really is magic! Be sure to replace it every few months. It somehow loses it “magic.” Whenever I get a new one I’m always amazed at how quickly it glides through my hair. For extra help I also use It’s a 10. I only shampoo my hair. Then when I’m out of the shower I spray in the It’s a 10 miracle leave in product 🙂

    • Angela (Super Saver Sidekick)

It’s a 10 is a really great product! I do wish it was a little bit cheaper!

  41. Maggie H

I just found some floral print ones on clearance at Target for $4.98!! I grabbed 3 since they are gold in my house of 4 girls 🙂

    • Angela (Super Saver Sidekick)

      Wow what a great score!

  42. thehenrydthoreau

I have thin hair. I have to use a detangler with this brush. It hurts too much if I don’t.

  43. Karri

Love this bush it has brought peace to my house. I went an bought two more because my daughter always has one in her ball bag and one in her room. They sell these brushes at Target and they have some on clearance also right now DCPI # 063-04-0049

  44. JA

I just want to say that the last pic with the three of you is adorable! 😃😃😃

    • Angela (Super Saver Sidekick)

      Aww thanks JA! ❤️

  45. Yar

Where have I been? Never heard of wet brush before, It could had save me tears, time and money! Well its never too late to try this brush! 3 women on the house with thick corse hair tired of using flat iron will be more than happy to an alternative! My teens will be so happy, thank you Angela!

    • Angela (Super Saver Sidekick)

Yay! Hope you love it as much as I do! It’s been such a life saver in our home!

  46. Rose

I have 4 Daughters and my hairstlist just gave me one It is the BEST BRUSH EVER! We have 3 and they are Amazing my daughters love them.

  47. Sisi

Thanks. Love your thick hair and u r so cute 🙂

  48. Sisi

I mean your daughter in the photos. Oops my mistake I thought it s u 😉

  49. Sav

These ARE the best. I’ve gotten the small one (purse-sized, perfect for my toddler) at Ross for $2.99 and the full-size for $6.99 there, as well. They seem to come in stock regularly.

  50. Abbie

I have one for my daughters hair and I love it!!! Definitely would recommend this brush to anyone.
