I wanted to share this picture of items my daughter was able to purchase with just $10.00! My daughter, Sarah, graduated from college this past May, and will be taking a job as a teacher at a Christian School in Alabama. She has watched me coupon for years and has always been intrigued by all I could save using coupons and apps! So, at the beginning of the summer, I gave her a $10 bill and challenged her to purchase as much as she could with it using coupons, gift cards using the Shopkick app, and by rolling her rewards! I also suggested she utilize Hip2Save to help her with deal ideas and scenarios! She accepted the challenge and was excited to see how much she could stockpile before she moved away.

She went out with me every Saturday and slowly built up her little stockpile! At the end of the challenge, she had over $150 worth of products that she purchased for just under $10 out of pocket. She was beyond excited and extremely motivated to use her new found skills when she settles in to her new life as a teacher! Thank you so much for all you do to help us get the best deals out there!!

P.S. Every Saturday we also went to Chick-fil-A for lunch and bought kid’s meals, and saved the learning books included for her classroom gift box 🤗

My daughter said she will just give me money and I can coupon for her while at college in New York…

    • Laura

Michelle I mean this with no disrespect to you because I have a sister that would tell me this… it was so irritating and I couldn’t understand how she could be so darn lazy! That’s just laziness! I’m like “this is your money! You are a college student, why the heck wouldn’t you want to save money!!” It baffles me why people wouldn’t want to save money. If I had known about this world sooner, I’d probably be rich! Lol. All the needless spending I’ve done all my life 🤣🤣

      • Laura

Forgot to add/ mention.. I LOVE when people, especially young people try to save money!!! Congrats to the mom and daughter in this post! Love it!!

      • Michelle

Oh let me mention she uses coupons now that she is still at home but she will be super busy at college going for a Nurse Practitioner so I am so proud and have no issues shopping for her while she us away… Right now she could make $10 go so far… We have a special term we use when we go shopping “fropping” it means “free shopping”… We went to the mall and only spent $17 and got a trunk full!

      Hey
I have a son with brain and spinal cord cancer I try to coupon but haven’t been able to spend enough time couponing. Please let me know if there are any products I could use in Texas. I also have 2 daughters 8 and 10. I’m also taking care of my mom with lung cancer.

      • Rachel

        Was that necessary?
If you don’t have anything nice to say, keep it moving
There’s enough negativity in the world without clogging up a perfectly amazing site with garbage such as your ridiculous comment. 🙂

I live in Texas and get to take advantage of many of the deals posted on Hip2Save. I would say start looking at the target and cvs deals posted here as they seem to be the easiest for me to do. I also do occasional Walgreens deals but they are a bit more difficult in my opinion. Just keep checking hip2save for deals and you will be couponing in no time. HTH.

That’s winderful. Every year one of our local tv stations does ” Backpacks for kids.”People donate school supplies, bqckpacks, money for our local schools. Since I don’t have any kids, I do try to donate when I can. This year I got a few things including free crayons, pens for 19 cents, coupon from the Sunday paper and the crayons were free at Meijers with a register coupon. The best part was the unopened packages of filler paper I got at Goodwill. I save it all in the closet and will be dropping it off tomorrow. Every little bit helps.

    • Sarah

As a school counselor in an urban school district with about 75-80% of students coming from economically disadvantaged homes, thank you. Supplies like these go a long way to help minimize the amount teachers spend out of pocket to make sure students have what they need. Thank you.

Pat yourself on the back mama, that’s amazing! This skill is clearly already taking your daughter far. Best of luck in her career! 👏🏼

    • Elizabeth

      Thanks!! 🤗

Congrats to your daughter for graduating and her new position. Saving money when you are a teacher is so important and a couponing class should be offered in college for future educators. I see how much of their salary teachers spend in their classrooms and it would shock most people. Congrats to you mom for being such a role model and being an inspiration to your child and taking the time to teach her this valuable life skill while building such wonderful memories together. Finally, OMG…she got so many useful things for $10. Super impressed.

  7. cindy

Hi! Well done! It gives me hope! My daughters can/will do it for clothing, shoes, makeup, etc. Hopefully they will broaden their horizons when it comes time to move out!

  8. Nancy

Love this! I wish my mom would have couponed. I started couponing at 20, I’m 28 now.

  9. Abby H

This is an amazing story. I had to share it on my FB. Deposting seeds of wisdom in our children is priceless. I wish your daughter the best and thanks to the hip2save team for sharing this story.

  10. Feenicks

Have your daughter check out http://www.NAEIR.com. It is a non profit company that has paid memberships for other non profits, but even better, FREE accounts for teachers!! I can’t even describe the items on there, but everything is free you just pay a handling fee. Hundreds of post it note pads for a couple of dollars, EXPO markers by the dozens for a few dollars, etc.

  11. Leslie Ramey

Wowza! I’ve been keep wanting for years and never got $150 worth for $10. Way to go!!! 😃

    • Marcy

I’m in CA, family of 5 would love to learn how to coupon like this. I love the hip crew and try to snag deals here and there but I don’t understand how to see this type of savings couponing. Anyone have suggests how to learn?

      • Rose

I found Mycouponexpert.com helpful. I learned to coupon through them. It shows you different stores and how and which coupon is needed. Apart from Hip2Save they are both Amazing

  12. Jenn

My daughter just downloaded your app and she said mom I am going to be calling you for deals. She moves in her dorm in just a few weeks! LOVE that she wants to save money!

  13. Vivian

  14. Glittertired

      Hip2Save crew,

This is the second RUDE comment that this person has posted just on this thread. Definitely not following the example that you all set. SJ, this is a community of people that are helping one another better their lives. I suggest taking a break from this site or commenting. Your rude and heartless comments are not helpful or needed. I pray that whatever has hurt your heart to make you feel the need to say hurtful things would be healed. Be blessed.

Glittertired, there is a Facebook group called Saving Our Way in SA. It is primarily HEB but also CVS/Target/Walgreens/Walmart deals. The owner of the group has a special rate for the San Antonio Express News to receive up to 5 copies of sunday paper at $1 each, if you’re in this area.

  15. Robin

This is awesome! Glittertired, I am sorry for everything you’re dealing with. Subscribe to the Sunday newspaper for coupons. You can also print them from coupons.com, smart source.com, company websites…Follow Hip2Save, Krazy Coupon Lady, Totally Target to find deals. The Shopkick app lets you earn points by walking into stores and scanning items. You can then use those points to get gift cards. ❤️

  16. Leona

Hi, Glittertired. Prayers for you and your family! If you are in DFW check out .. https://www.groupon.com/deals/the-dallas-morning-news-6. (limit 1 per address; $3/week for the daily paper including Sunday) Or look for one in your area… You may find a better deal.. Do you have an Aldi’s near you? If so, they are a great place to shop for everyday low prices without coupons. I’m not a big Walmart shopper, but if your short on time.. you can try price matching at Walmart or using the Savings Catcher to get cash back along with digital rebates like Ibotta and Checkout 51. If you have the time you can also use MyPoints or other survey sites for points to earn gift cards for stores like Walmart and more.

  17. Suzanne H

So happy to see a young person getting into the couponing game. I wish I had been more motivated and had the online resources, etc. when I was young. I wasted so much $$$. I’d probably be very wealthy now if I’d started that young. Keep it up!
