Highly recommend the TECHNIVORM Moccamaster if you can find it in stock somewhere! We paid full price and it is worth every penny.
Oh cool! Thanks for the feedback!
I would actually spend more to get the Technivorm with the tall, steel carafe instead of the glass one here. It’s best of the best, handmade in the Netherlands. America’s Test Kitchen Review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xD6X72bdc7c
For those used to Keurigs, it may not be obvious what’s so special about this, but….if you buy *good* coffee beans and grind them fresh, Technivorm has been found to have the best extraction of any home machine. It’s the one that coffee pros and roasters own. It brews much, much hotter than conventional coffee makers — which is necessary for an optimal extraction. Most machines get a flat, one-note extraction because of the wrong water temp (Keurigs make it worse by adding a plastic note to the flat extraction). When you see high-end beans with tasting notes like chocolate, blueberry, or caramel….this is the machine to get those notes out. Many people find that they no longer need sugar in their coffee once they transition to “proper” coffee!
If you don’t brew coffee with a Technivorm, then a pour-over apparatus (like the glass Chemex) is the other viable option. Either one will allow you to see the coffee grinds bloom (expand up and out, with a thick white foam), and the bloom is essential to full flavor extraction.
