Note from Collin:

Do you have a product you love? We definitely have many favorite products here on the Hip2Save Team, and thought it would be FUN to share some of them with you! I personally love product recommendations and I’ve also had a few requests from readers, so I have asked each member of the team to think of products they love (cosmetics, kitchen gadgets etc.) and to write up a post that will be shared here every Tuesday.

Hi there! It’s Angela – one of Collin’s Sidekicks!

I like to think that I’m a hip Mom – even though my teenagers would roll their eyes if they heard me saying that. “Seriously Mom? That’s so not cool to say that.” 🙄 My daughter is really into the Musically app – you make quick videos and lip sync over popular songs and audio clips. For the longest time she kept begging me to get her a PopSocket, because MOMMMMMMM all the kids on Musically have them.

At the time, they were just starting to be a thing, and you could only find them online at random stores. A PopSocket is this little thingamabob (such an official namem right?) that sticks to the back of your phone. You can use it to prop up your phone or to help give you better control when holding the phone for those oh so important selfies. 💁🏻 It seemed to me to be something that would end up in a drawer after a while, like all of the other OMG I gotta have it fads.

Fast forward to my trip to the UPS store a couple of months ago.

I walked in and saw a display of PopSockets –  wow, they are everywhere now! I made a comment about them and the UPS guy told me you can use it in the car to keep your phone mounted. 😮 Hold up! You mean I no longer have to block my precious air vents with a vent mount, and I can have alllll of that wonderful cold air blowing directly on me instead of being blocked by a phone? SIGN ME UP – I live in Atlanta, it’s a furnace here, I need my AC!

I must admit, I L.O.V.E. this thing!

When I’m working and Collin goes live on FB, I pop out the back and my phone is now propped up so I can watch along without having to tie up my computer. There are a ton of super cute designs, and you can even order a custom PopSocket with one of your own photos! I ordered my daughter a new one that has one of our cats on it. 😽

PopSockets typically start at $9.99 from Best Buy and Amazon, with custom designs starting at $15. Even sweeter, BestBuy.com currently has a promotion going on where you can save 25% off the purchase of three or more select phone accessories – including PopSockets! That makes them just $7.49 each when you buy three or more!

We’ve loved giving these as gifts, and they would make awesome stocking stuffers for Christmas!

We saw them the other at our local mall for $9.99 but I wasn’t really interested in them. They were not like the designs you have in the pics. All they had was grey and black but no cute ones like you have shown above.

  2. Seussieissues

I have bought tons of these from Ali express for about a buck each- now it doesn’t look like they are available anymore! 😢 not paying $10, that’s for sure, but they are handy little do-hickies.

    • Angela (Super Saver Sidekick)

That’s awesome! I was wondering how those held up, sticky wise. I like that the PopSockets seem to keep their stick even when I move it from case to case.

      • Seussieissues

I have never had an issue with the AliExpress versions. They are identical (imo) to the pricier US sold versions but much cheaper… but I think maybe they took them off the market? Shame. :/

  3. Sara

I ordered some on eBay for $.99. They arrived pretty quickly too.
Helps me not drop my phone on my face in bed. 😝

    • Angela (Super Saver Sidekick)

Ha! I’ve dropped my phone on my face a million times before getting one of these!

    • Bologna

I chipped my front tooth! lmbo!!!😂

  4. JD

I’ve had one of these for a few weeks now and love it!! It’s so much easier to hold onto a larger phone while talking or texting!!

    • Angela (Super Saver Sidekick)

Yes for sure! I think I’m addicted to popping the socket when I fidget. 🤦🏻‍♀️

      • KellyRG

I recommend that you do not do this, though it is very tempting. My daughter did this with hers a lot and it compromised the integrity of the socket (made it too loose and would not stay firmly popped after a while). We had to replace hers because of this action.

        • Angela (Super Saver Sidekick)

Yikes! Thanks for the heads up!

  5. laceypearl

I love my popsocket … I even got my hubby addicted lol

  6. Ashley G

I couldn’t get mine to stick, even on a completely flat surfaced case. I do have a heavy iPhone 6 Plus, so maybe they just can’t securely hold that much weight? Any tips?

    • KellyRG

Did you peel back the initial layer of clear covering that is on the socket backside itself? My entire family has been using these for over a year now and we have 6s Plus, and 7 Plus models. They stick insanely well.

  7. Jean

I’m curious.. How does this mount onto the car? Does it hold firm? I would love something that would help get my air vent back too!! 😊

  8. KellyRG

These are fantastic, but don’t buy the knock-offs. They suck. We started using the originals, and then purchased more on a Tanga.com deal (they were knockoffs) and they were absolutely TERRIBLE. Instead of the slim sticking pad that the authentic sockets have, the knockoffs have a thick puffy sticker layer (and are usually white) which are horrid. Stick to the original/authentic ones. They are 100% worth the price.

    • Angela (Super Saver Sidekick)

Thanks for letting us know Kelly! I’ve never tried the knock-offs, so it’s good to know the real thing is worth it. I’m impressed and I think they are reasonably priced (especially when they are on sale!).

  9. Michelle

We just have a family get together Sunday and I asked my niece what she wanted for Christmas and she said a “pop socket”… I was like what?!? Well here again hip2save it on top of it… I have teens myself but had no idea these were that cool or popular… Thanks for the info😉

    • Angela (Super Saver Sidekick)

You’re welcome Michelle! I’m going to grab a few more myself from the sale I mentioned. With my teens they for sure won’t go to waste!

  10. JA

My kid was BEGGING for one and I too thought it was pointless and not going to get used. So I resisted….and lo and behold, Comcast was giving free ones away at the Pittsburgh Regatta! Ya they say Xfinity on them but can be covered with stickers or duct tape or whatever. So glad I waited.😂😂😂

    • Angela (Super Saver Sidekick)

That’s awesome! One of my daughter’s friends paints her design, and when she gets bored she paints something new over it.

  11. Ashley

A member of the Hip2Save team lives in Atlanta?! I thought y’all were all out west, so that’s super cool! I live in Atlanta myself 😉

    • Dealzgurl

I know, I thought the same thing too! She’s right, though. Atlanta is hot!!!!

    • Angela (Super Saver Sidekick)

Yes mam, right here in the A! We have amazing Hip Team Members all over! ❤️

  12. Kay

I love mine!!! This is a great innovation for the phone 🙂

  13. Erica Johnson

I loved my PopSocket but the adhesive didn’t last very long. After about 3 weeks it just stopped sticking. Anyone have any ideas for an adhesive that would make it stick better?

    • Andrea Riddle

Hi Erica…I don’t have one but I have read that you can wash it and it should start sticking again I think????

    • Angela (Super Saver Sidekick)

Hi Erica! I’ve moved mine from case to case and I’m pretty rough on it and the adhesive is still going strong.

This is what the PopSocket website says about it:
“The awesome gel on the back of your PopSocket is designed to be reactivated. Simply rinse it with water, air dry for 10 minutes and then firmly reattach to your phone case (don’t leave it unattached for more than 15 minutes because the gel will die). Resist the urge to Pop it for at least 1 hour and this will take care of the problem!”

  14. Crystal

My whole family of 5 LOVE our pop sockets!
Target had some 50% off today when I was there. It makes them $4.99. I’m in the Charlotte nc area

    • Angela (Super Saver Sidekick)

Wow Crystal! What a great score!

    • Tiffany Greene

Hi where in Charlotte did you find them for 50% off? I live in the Ballantyne area. Thanks in advance!

  15. allyson

My daughter made something similar using a cheap knob to a drawer. Of course it isn’t sticky but works perfectly for taking selfies (or doing Musically videos).

  16. debbie

i love mine. Got fom best buy for 9.99. Target has them for 9.99 also but limited designs.

  17. Lore

I received a custom one from our admistrators for teacher appreciation week. Finally istalled it Friday and am exploring all the ways to use it.
