Through December 31st, head over to Avis.com where they are offering up a free weekend rental day with promo code TUWA077 at checkout! Just book an intermediate through a full-size vehicle for three consecutive days Thursday through Monday and you’ll get the third day free – excludes NY Metro area and there are some blackout dates.

To claim this offer, head here, enter your rental location and dates, and then look for a car labeled “coupon eligible”. As one idea, I was able to test scoring a full-size rental in my area for just $45.12 for 3 days after taxes and fees – that’s just $15.04 per day!

Good deal even though the header had me thinking one day was free with no other purchase needed

Any feelings on CDW insurance.. I have a card with excellent coverage but when investigating if this type of issue happens seems like a big hassle regarding responsibility of payment should you have a msiahp..

Shari, if you charge it, every card is different. We never take the insurance as our credit card covers us. They do try to make you feel obligated though in taking it!

I KNOW, Lisa.. this really bothers me.. I had a heart to heart talk with a manager one tine (after I’d rented) asking all the reasons why it might not serve me well to decline.. something about when the money is due and payable.. apparently it takes time for the cc company to get the money to the Rental companies.. and allegedly the renter has to pay in the meantime.. .. It really bugs me..

If you have personal car insurance, it sometimes also covers rentals. GEICO does for me, but I have full coverage. I have never purchased car rental insurance upgrades and been in numerous accidents and once my rental was stolen. I have never been at fault though.

We had a terrible experience with Avis. We rented the car for one day (taking us to and from the airport and our reception from my mother in laws house) we had no problems with the car and passed the return inspection, all paperwork was signed and we were merrily on our way. Weeks later we got a notice of collection for almost $1k because of a dent on the back of the car. I had all the paperwork still showing there was no damage at inspection. We are honest people and knew there was no problems with the car when we had it. I think we would also remember something big hitting our car! The date they were even claiming it happened, we didn’t even have it then. I was fighting it. Then they called my husband and told him they were sending it to collections if it wasn’t paid immediately. My husband explained we were in the process of fighting it and submitting documentation. They told him if he paid it that day, we could still fight it and they would reimburse us when our proof came in, and it would avoid collections. We were planning on buying a house and my husband was worried about it reflecting badly on our credit. So. He paid it. We never saw that money again. I fought it as long as I could until they told me it didn’t matter if we had insurance or not, pictures and documentation didn’t matter and then…they no longer had information on it. Very expensive lesson for my husband, lol. That was years ago. We have used car rentals dozens of times and I absolutely refuse to use Avis. And yes, still telling this story to deflect people from their business so it doesn’t happen to them either! Obviously, my lack of business is hurting them in zero way, but it ruined my image of them forever. Boo Avis.

Oh darn! That does sound frustrating. Thanks so much for sharing your previous experience.

      • Sad But True

Thanks Collin. It was super frustrating. And I am not one to spread negativity, but the mention of this company’s name makes me throw red flags around like confetti! It certainly wasn’t fair and I wouldn’t want anyone else to have to go through that.

When did this happen? Call your auto insurer and tell them what happened. They may be able to assist you.

      • Daniela

Sounds scammish to me. I would submit it for small claims court esp since you didn’t have the car at that time and you passed the return inspection.

        • Sad But True

I never thought of small claims either. It was lesson in various ways for us! If we knew then what we know now…

      • Sad But True

It happened about 10 years ago😕 I truly don’t hold on to negative things, but anytime I hear Avis I cringe. I never even thought of contacting my auto insurer! I bet they would have been able to offer some sort of assistance or direction. Thanks for the tip. Hopefully I’ll never have this experience again, but if I do I’ll remember that. And if someone unfortunately is going through the same thing, maybe this will help them!

I must have a black out weekend. Mine came up as $230

When u rent from Avis, u need to take pictures of vehicle upon return. They will call u days later with false claims that u damage their vehicle .

I’ve rented from Avis in the past and had the worse experience ever. I rented, returned the car on time with a full tank and about 8 months later I found a $800 charge on my credit card. I notified my cc company and then contacted Avis who claims I had rented a car from them around said time which wasn’t possible because I was in basic training. I got the money refunded and let my cc company fight with them but swore to NEVER deal with them again and I object to family and friends from using them. They’ll never get a recommendation out of me. (And yes I had that card canceled and a new one issued.)
